An excellent comfortable hotel with friendly attentive staff and wonderful food.
This is an 18th century grade 2 listed country house which has which has skilfully been upgraded by the current owner to a high standard.
The rooms are spotless and comfortable.

I revisited the restaurant after a gap of several years. It has risen from "What a pleasant location for lunch on a sunny day" to "What a wonderful experience from the welcome to the bill". The Orangery restaurant has such a lovely view over the trees and shrubs in the garden, ( not to mention the chickens), the sensitive refurb of the lovely old building, tastefully furnished and the delightful ambience generated by the owner and staff. We encountered the first day of a new chef. He had devised a really imaginative menu, with excellently cooked dishes with very understated extras like the amuse bouche with our drinks and the home-baked rolls. The hotel is tucked away in a small village and does not ape glossy modern "palaces" but provides a level of service way above that so often found in similar establishments. We vowed to return when we saw the bill! I would love to stay, but sadly live locally!

We really liked this place.
Beautiful building from the outside, and good inside too. Our room was lovely, clean, great shower, quiet, overlooked the garden....really nothing to be negative about! Also, they accommodated our dog without any fuss. She was allowed to stay in our room and come down to the little snug bar - big bonus points.
Had dinner there; food was really good we thought. Lovely Somerset cider stocked in the bar also!
It's a very short distance from the A303 but feels like the middle of nowhere.
All round lovely and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Only stayed one night with a young family.
Check in was pleasant and friendly, that pretty much sums up all of our interactions with the staff - a good bunch!
They tried hard and were nice to Baby Mo, but didn't seem to be quite up to speed with catering to the very youngest guests.
Equipment was a little tired (broken strap, worn fabric) and I was a little surprised to be charged £15 for a travel cot for one night (12.5% of the room rate).
Food in the restaurant was super; short, simple menu done well. Husband would have liked more but at least there was room for pudding!
Can see they have upgraded the rooms with good linen and stylish accents. Will need to update bigger things like carpets and bathrooms to authentically achieve the luxury feel that they are aiming for. Bed was very comfortable.
Overall, a pleasant stay and a good meal in a charming house. Well done.

I've been meaning to drop a post on this hotel for some months.

My mother-in-law held her 90th birthday party at the hotel and we had a fantastic day. The hotel helped organise the occasion and the proprietor, Gordon, and his staff provided exceptional service - friendly and welcoming. All our guests (30 plus) had a most enjoyable time and the food was excellent.

We also stayed overnight with friends. The accommodation was clean and tidy with views across the delightful garden (with roaming chickens). The rooms were certainly of a far superior standard to other hotels we have stayed at in the area.

We will be returning at some point soon and can certainly highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the South Somerset area.

3 day stay for a family wedding nearby. Of highest compliment was the excellent service and hospitality from the owner Gordon down to the service staff, with special kudos to Joe and Chris for friendly always smiling help! Beautiful Georgian mansion, 9 bedrooms, all very high standard. Stayed in Russet room, top floor. LARGE room, sitting area, large flat screen, wood beamed room ( mind your head!), full ensuite bath with power shower, plenty of hot water. Beautiful glassed in conservatory for breakfast or other meals with lovely garden views - breakfast menu did not change, but offered buffet cereals, porridge, fruit, home baked croissants, juices, French press coffee, tea, then a hot breakfast with base of full English breakfast, but accomodating to any hot variations thereof. Had only one lunch at the restaurant, which was superb salmon, high standard and presentation. Wish I had a chance to dine there at night.Nice drawing room/salon with snug fully equipped bar, well priced in my opinion.Plenty of on site parking.Easy to locate, quick access to A303.Local area filled with lovely English countryside villages, crafts, and very narrow small roads with high hedges! Would definitely return as first choice on my next visit - hopefully very very soon!
