Description: This unique 17th century Inn houses a wonderful British restaurant and pub. You'll find it at the heart of the delightful Sussex village of Burpham, just 4 km from historic Arundel, surrounded by the glorious South Downs National Park. The menus are classic “best of British” food with a modern twist. Everything is home cooked with the freshest seasonal ingredients, locally sourced where possible. That means the specials menu changes all the time, so your tastebuds will always be delighted. Open for lunch 12-2 or 12-3 weekends, and from 6pm for dinner. Great wine menu and local Real Ale. This is a very family friendly place; well-behaved dogs are welcome to sit under the table in the pub area whilst you dine. Groups, weddings and private parties love it here and come back year after year. Bookings are recommended especially for Sunday lunch as it's always very busy.

“A bit disorganised!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014 via mobile

After receiving the wrong menu, we ordered to find that one of the items ordered they didn't have, so my partner after 3 menu choices ordered his food! When the food arrived, it was enjoyable but lacked the wow factor. I hope that when I next go I will see a more exciting menu and maybe a few specials? On the plus, the wine we chose was lovely!

“Busy but excellent service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2014

We stumbled across this lovely old pub on a Sunday lunchtime when looking for a bite to eat in the South Downs. There were three of us plus our Border Terrier and we weren't sure if they allowed dogs inside the bar area. We had no reason to worry - as soon as we entered we saw that the place was packed out but we were immediately greeted warmly by a member of staff and offered the last available table, which was by the door. Our order was taken quickly, a large bottle of iced water placed on the table with glasses (something we particularly like in restaurants) and there was even a biscuit or two for our dog! There were a mixture of diners, including ramblers, families celebrating special occasions and couples, but all were catered for with a smile and excellent service. The food arrived and was very good. My husband and his brother had a ham hock sandwich and I had the house burger. Everything was delicious and fresh and we couldn't fault a thing. The pub/restaurant/toilets were spotlessly clean.

The whole place had a lovely relaxed vibe and we could have sat there for hours on end!

If you're in the area don't hesitate to visit The George but we would recommend booking. We were very lucky to get a table without booking but will make sure we reserve a table next time so that we don't miss out on such a great experience!

“Some room at the inn!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2014

stuck in traffic heading to Arundel- we saw a sign-the George at burpham-like 3 wise men-although there were 4 of us -we followed the sign up a chalky road to the inn .We were greeted in a very friendly manner by a young portly man who, although we had not booked , found us a table. We had wine , Chablis, from a good , if small wine list, and a harveys-always a good pint when well kept. We broke bread , and olives to start, dined on a good fish pie ( bit of salmon or smoked haddock in it maybe ?) ,an excellent leek and celery gratain , and a very good hake and chips. Sadly , no room for puddings-and im 6 2" ,18 stone and love food !- although I peered longingly at a crumble that looked good . Also bumped into Nick - who runs the pub?-whom I have not seen for about 8 years - about the same time since Arsenal won anything !-Sorry Nick. What with the views and the good car park , excellent service-and very good food -you want to hope that there is room at the inn. No donkeys allowed . Unless its Tony Adams.
