This guest house is the best place to stay while you are in Salzburg Area. Furstenbrunn is 15 minutes by car from downtown. You are waking up every morning at the foot of the Untersberg mountain (The Sound of music mountain you see in the movie), and you hear the river flowing right near. Cant describe how charming this place is! Rooms are clean (could eat on the floor!) and excellent beds. The owner Susan and her husband are very nice and welcoming. Downstair is a restaurant for dinner but very quiet, it closes around 8 or 9PM. Breakfast (included) is excellent and complete (eggs, meat, cheese, coffee or chocolate and juices, you ask) served in the restaurant or outside in the gardens.
Around 10PM they lock the doors, but they provide you with a key to enter anytime you want. Security, and VERY quiet after 10PM. Lots of free parking except a little bit more difficult during the restaurant hours. But we always found a place in the parking.
No need for air condition there: in July it was 90F (around 30C) and at night it cools down to 60F. We opened the balcony door and voila! natural air to sleep.
If you want to go downtown, the bus terminus is right there (you see it from your balcony). 30 minutes and 1.80 Euro and you are on the main plaza of Salzburg. Every 15 minutes, no need to park the car. Grodig is about 5 minutes by car, the salt mines 10 minutes. The Ice Cave about 40 minutes. Location is perfect, best stay in the last 10 years anywhere I went, no downtown hotel can beat that.
