“Wonderful Christmas break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

Returned from this hotel last week after spending Christmas there. It was the first time in an English hotel over Christmas and it was just wonderful! The staff couldn't do enough for us, they were friendly without being over-familiar, we were welcomed by the house butler who took us up to our rooms. The rooms were very comfortable, warm, well decorated, lovely hot water and a king size bed even for a single traveller. What is more the bed was exceptionally comfortable. One slight problem with the TV remote which was reluctant to work but as I used the radio far more, it wasn't really an issue. The food was fantastic, presented beautifully (people took photos!) and didn't overfill. A waitress said 'we aim to feed, not to stuff' and she was spot on. The entertainment was good, but answers to the treasure hunt would have been nice. The singer on Gala night was good but didn't really play to his audience. the hotel is set in gorgeous grounds and I loved the kitsch plastic sheep and dog. On the whole a brilliant break and I want to go back!

Do not stay at this hotel if you want a jacuzzi. One is shown in all the pool photos in all the advertising including the hotels own website but has long since been filled in and now houses potted plants !
We stayed 27/28th Dec 2012 in a newly refurbished executive room with double bed on a bed and breakfast basis.
The room was well decorated and clean ,the double be was in fact two single beds poorly attached to each other ,The lighting was one overhead light and three table lights very modern but nowhere enough illunination.Ladies take a mirror with lights if you want to do your makup.
The bathroom was clean but badly laid out .Gentlemen if you want to shave the mirror is an arms length behind the sink .There is a major issue with getting hot water in fact there was an issue with getting even luke warm water. There is no welcome pack and a complete lack of information about hotel facilities etc they need to address that .
In room 44 the only place to hold when you get our of the bath is a Hot towel rail we both did it and it hurts .
Breakfast was on the first day like an episode of Fawlty Towers ,the second morning was better but still not to be recomended.
The pool was clean and well lit the shower you are asked to use before entering was freezing. The changing rooms were not quite as clean and the showers barely warm.We used the pool once on our second visit we were informed they had introduced a £1 charge for each of us to use their towels ,we declined their kind offer.
The exterior of the hotel is attractive quirky and interesting as are many of the public areas which are clean and attractive.

Stayed here in november on business. Room only booking

Very nice room, was upgraded without asking with diamond card. Comfortable room, good shower, flat screen tv .

Room service dinner which was of a decent quality.

Check in was friendly and efficient as was checkout.

Plenty of parking and good value

We stayed here for three nights Dec 14,14 and 16th the hotel is in a lovely spot and quite central. I reported to reception that one headboard in our room was not attached to the wall and every time one moved in bed it was very noisy, the loo roll holder was broken too, but nothing was repaired during our stay. The breakfast was extremely disappointing we were served it at our table but it was dried up and tasteless. It had been on a hotplate in the kitchen for quite sometime. The portions were very small and the food tasteless. The scrambled eggs were served in ramekins and we wondered if they had been made from powered egg as they were so unpleasant. We did not eat at the hotel as the breakfast did not inspire us. Locally it has the reputation for very expensive, poor quality food, eat at the Golden Lion just down the road it is superb. We were also charged for ordering a newspaper one pound, I have never known this happen before. Overall a disappointing experience.

This is a lovely relaxing place to stay. Stayed on a saturday night on a room only basis so cant comment on the food but the whole experience was good. The grounds and hotel were lovely as was our room. Everything was very clean. We made use of the sauna and pool which was very relaxing. The gym looked good also. All the staff were very pleasant. Would love to go back for a longer stay.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

I stayed at the hotel on a busy Saturday, 24th November. The hotel was clearly very busy on arrival due to there being a wedding however check in was quick and efficient and we were given a room on the bottom floor near to the function room. The room was clean and of very good standard, good size and the bathroom spotless with good quality toiletries.

The only downside was very squeaky floorboards from the room above and what seemed like a party. We endured the noise for an hour or so as we appreciate that a hotel on a Saturday night can be quite noisy. However when it did not subside i attended reception and highlighted our issue and they could not do enough for us and immediately moved us to a quieter room within the hotel. The new room was again of lovely standard and extremely quiet (room 1). This was of similar excellent standard to the other room, large, flat screen TV, nice big double bed with cotton sheets, spotlessly clean, plenty of coffee and tea and lots of milk cartons (my pet hate is places leaving coffee/tea facilities with 2 tiny milk sachets). Breakfast next morning was great, full English, eggs cooked to order (poached, omlettes etc) pastries, cereals. Impeccable waitress service, couldn't ask for more.

The excellent customer service sets this place aside from most of my experiences. So much so it prompted me to register with tripadvisor so i could post a review as i always consult this resource when booking accommodation.

Would definitely recommend this place and only wish we had time to use the gym spa etc, maybe next time :-)

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the upper floors as the building is quite ols and has squeaky floor boards!

Just returned from a long weekend at this hotel. Lovely setting in picturesque grounds. Our room was clean and comfortable and very spacious. The food was good and plentiful. The gym was great and the I made use of the spa with a fab massage.Sitting rooms all well appointed and comfortable. Loved the artwork on the walls and the fab extra large chair. Like Alice in Wonderland. Well worth a visit we would return and recommend to our friends & family.

Room Tip: We had ground floor room in Woodland Suites. A bit dark but as we were only in the room to sleep it...
