We stayed one night midweek and found the Mickleover Court Menzies to be superb value. We arrived quite early in the day, but the room was nevertheless ready. The hotel is easy to find, with ample easy parking. The hotel has a gym, a good bar, and an excellent restaurant.

The room was excellent - light, modern, very well appointed, very clean, and very spacious. The bed was very comfortable and there was a good desk. It was very quiet, and easy to control the temperature. Business facilities were excellent, including WiFi. My only gripe about the room was that the windows were high up and there was no view at all, which became odd after a few hours.

I ate in the restaurant for lunch and dinner, and it was excellent both times. The only thing I missed about the hotel was a garden or somewhere that you could have a short predinner walk.

  • Liked — The rooms are superb
  • Disliked — My room at least didn't have a view - and I mean no windows you could look out of

I stayed with my partener and 6 company colleagues at the mickleover court earlier in june and found the hotel to be most pleasing. The facilties offered were impressive, the rooms were comfortable and it seemed excellent personal service was obviously paramount. The purpose of our stay was to have two nights accomadation and a dinner in the company of our buisiness associates:
We ate in the brasserie restaurant on a very busy saturday evening and we were made to feel very welcome; Service was excellent and i must mention the young manager who seemed to keep things running smoothly whilst still being able to chat with us and he looked after myself and my colleagues very well throughout that evening.
I wouldn't hessitate to reccomend the hotel or the restaurant as i feel it was a warm and enjoyable experience. Staff were very professional and very willing.

  • Liked — hospitality, restaurant.
  • Disliked — hard to fault, but room door-locks difficult to open.

We stayed one night at this hotel on a DBB basis. We had a superior room which was a good size and clean. The leisure facilities were good and about to be renovated.
The night we stayed there was no lighting in the Brasserie Restaurant due to the inclement weather. The staff coped admirably and the meal was most enjoyable.
Whilst in the area we visited The Derby Museum and Art Gallery and saw the wonderful Wright paintings as well as Pickford's House and Hardwick Hall.
We had a great weekend and I would stay at this hotel again.

Travelling with partner and 18 month baby, we stayed over recently on a Saturday night. Our overall impressions of the staff and the hotel facilities were positive. Staff were quick to check us in and the room was spacious and clean. When we requested hypo-allergenic pillows they arrived promptly.

We also made use of the pool and gym facilities which were well above average for the class of hotel.

There is a choice of two restaurants in the hotel, we opted for the Italian, which had a bit more atmosphere than the more austere brasserie. Food was OK, staff were stretched but still managed to get food to the table in good time and stayed in good humour.

All in all at a rate of £80 (bedroom only) for the night, we left feeling we'd had a value for money experience.

  • Liked — Pool and gym facilities excellent
  • Disliked — Limited number of television channels

Every so often it's nice to get away from it all and take a weekend break. We decided to stay here after surfing various websites. It was very easy to find, provided with good instructions from website. We approached the check in desk where the receptionist glanced up at us and offered no greeting, eventually we were booked in to our 'superior double' room, but we had to ask too many questions at reception rather than being told about the dinner we had booked or how the health club operates.

We were disappointed with the room it was quite small, although nice decor. It was relatively clean with the exception of the air conditioning grate, the window frame and the drinks tray. Nowadays one expects a kingsize bed so the poor quality double bed was very disappointing, the bedding and pillows should have been thrown away a long time ago. For our comfort a bathrobe had been left in the room - 2 would have been better! The bathroom was very clean and a good size although let down by cheap toilet paper and a shower screen that was totally useless, take a look at the back of the door you can see the damage the water has done.

The health club was very good with a good sized pool.

We dined in the Brasserie although the menu was different to the one that was on display in the foyer. Prior to our food arriving we were asked if we would like a slice of bread, which was cut for us however, it was wafer thin and disintegrated when you tried to spread butter on it. The food quality was good and the right amount.

There was nothing to do after dinner so we drove to town for a few drinks.

To sum up it's the little things that make your break enjoyable and Menzies failed to deliver. Generally the staff were very young and had no idea how to talk to their guests. They have a lot to learn from their rivals such as Hilton Hotels. I would not recommend this hotel there are far better options out there.

  • Liked — The heaith club
  • Disliked — Small room, bed & bedding
  • Tips/Secrets: — Don't have the coffee after dinner
