Being lovers of eating out, we ventured to Ramsbottom for breakfast today (Sunday 7/7)and stumbled upon The Hungry Duck, looked nice from the outside and offered a breakfast menu so decided to venture in. The menu had good choices and I opted for the eggs Benedict whilst hubby had a full English (choose 5 from a list - vegetarian available). The only thing I would have like at this point was the vegetarian option of eggs florentine - bit picky I know but hopefully constructive.
The food arrived and was presented very nicely, the eggs Benedict was served on a crumpet not a muffin and that was slightly over done, but the eggs were perfect and the pulled ham very tender. The plates were very hot (needless to say hubby had to check despite being told this).
The full breakfast, I am told was very good and this came with a coffee or tea.
The drinks were served quickly and with a nice piece of shortbread. Food is not that quick but it does clearly say on the menu that all food is cooked to order, so if you are in a rush then this is not the place for you.
We noted the size of the sausage and bacon butties that were served to others and they are huge, do not take that as a small option! We also noted when someone asked for a latte that they only had whole milk, I hope that is a one off and that normally they have semi or skimmed as these days the latter are more popular and it would prevent us having coffees there.
The venue is modern and clutter free which is nice and is licensed as it does open as a true restaurant in the evening.
The service was very good, the young lady that waited on us was very efficient, polite and smiley.
The venue has only been open 5 weeks and up until reading the other reviews on here I would have said it was a cafe/coffee shop not a fine dining restaurant, just by the decor. In saying that having not seen it at night it may look completely different then with different lighting and table linen etc. So only fair to try it again as a restaurant.
I noticed they also offer afternoon tea and we will be trying that very soon.
Overall, it was very good, not a 5 star for me due to the little things but I will be back and try other things.
