I really like the Chocolate Cafe, however our visits are few and far between simply because it is so expensive.
I live about 10 minutes away and I think if the price of food wasn't so steep (especially for what you actualy get) then we'd visit a lot more. I can appreciate that some parts of Ramsbottom and the surrounding areas are affluent hence the prices, and that the owners have started this buisness and followed their dream (good for them) so need to be making a decent profit. However the prices are really alienating some customers & I just think with a few changes the place would be amazing! On our last visit my boyfriend was rather annoyed to pay £1.50 for a can of pop, so if I do ever suggest we get lunch at the Chocolate Cafe he now refuses to go. We only go for food now when we get the BOGOF meal voucher in our local advertising magazine.
The cafe upsatirs is pretty cramped and the dowstairs area seems rather wasted. I personally think it would be great if there was a coffee bar with chocolates and pastries downstairs, so the VAST amount of tourist and day visiters to Rammy could grab a coffee-to-go and a quick bite without having to wait for a table, then wait for a server, etc etc. This is something that Rammy is missing as an area so I really don't understand why the owners haven't jumped on this opportunity.
If the prices we're even just a little lower then I think the Chocolate Cafe would see an increase in their custom. This is my biggest annoyance with the place. Apart from that it's lovely, the hot chocolate is fantastic!! Even better if you could get a take out ;)

Thank you for your review.
I am sorry you feel unhappy with some parts of our business. As a small independent family business we try to listen and improve. I appreciate that we are not cheap but I feel that we do offer good value for money. We use quality local suppliers and train and pay our staff well. We also reinvest any profits into the business and actively support numerous local events, charities and schools in order to try and build a sustainable business that contributes to the wider community.
We have in the past tried to offer a take away (and fresh pastries) service from our ground floor shop. We regrettably had to cease this in 2010 due to poor sales.
