“Great New Year Venue-Shame about the”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2009

Booked a 2 day New Year Break and was sceptical about the Dinner Dance set menu. Must say, we were pleasantly surprised with the selection and excellent quality - especially since they were catering with very large numbers. The general New Years party atmosphere was great fun and a good time was had by all BUT!!!!! the whole experience was tainted by a large group of guests wreaking havoc - including children who were out of control. Management didn't seem able to do much about the situation despite all other guests complaints. Not what you'd expect at such a high standard hotel. Would think twice about next time.

This is another Devere hotel in a great setting, great hotel, great food.

Booking in was quick and easy, we were in one of the courtyard rooms. These are to the rear of the main hotel and purpose built, 4 to a block, all the blocks have their own names such as Melrose ect. All have balconies so in the nice warmer weather you can sit outside in your own little space. The room was very large, you had the main bedroom with a wall mounted television, 2 easy chairs and a small table. Large patio doors to your own balcony which also has a small table and 2 chairs. At each side of the main bedroom is an alcove, one is a dressing area where the wardrobe is, the bathroom leads off from here, the other is where you can store your cases and 2 wall hooks for coats etc.

In the wardrobe is an irioning board/iron/hair dryer/fridge and safe. You get the usual tea/coffee/biscuits on a tray.

The bath was very large with shower over, free shampoo/conditioner/showergel and soap. Large white bath towel and small hand towel, face cloth.

Very wide bed, I'd say 6ft 6" but not as long, say 6ft, and very comfortable to sleep in, all Devere beds are comfortable to sleep in.

Breakfast is taken in the main hotel where you are shown to your table, we were in the conservatory, its lovely. Breakfast was help yourself which is what we like best, only because we do not like having to wait once we have sat down. There was plenty of choice from continental to the British classic. If you want to eat in the restaurants it's wise to pre book your first night as we were disappointed as they were fully booked up before we arrived at the hotel. We booked in the morning for our meal in the Brasserie on our second night.

We had a 2 course meal and a bottle of wine and the bill came to around £60 for the two of us. My only complaint is that we had to wait 1 hour from sitting down and having our soup to receiving our main course. The waitress did apologise so this must have been out of the ordinary and noticeable.

On checkout I had an additional item added to my bill which was not mine, therefore please check your bill carefully before paying, this was promptly taken off without any hassle.

All the staff are a credit to the hotel who look happy and want to be there. We were sorry to be leaving and hope to go back again soon.

We have just returned from a nights stay at the de vere Carden park hotel, we were firstly very impressed by the drive way to the hotel and the look of the hotel upon arrival and the surroundings.
As we entered the hotel we were swarmed by lots of people some hotel guests but mostly function guests from two large functions that hotel were hosting. We checked in and tried to make a booking in the restaurant, only to be told that the restaurant was full and we were only able to eat in the brasserie. The brasserie had the atmosphere of an over priced pizza hut, dirty tables and crumbs all over the floor left from previous customers, not what I would expect from a 4* hotel with such high praise. We also tried to book spa treatments, there was only a 30 minute gap during the whole of our stay, I feel if de vere are going to offer services then they should allocate more spaces for people to have treatments. I felt very embarassed that I had chosen the Carden park as a romantic getaway as the hotel clearly could not cope with its demand when busy. We were not aware that there was going to be two functions on, I would suggest if there was any way you could check how busy the hotel was before booking this would be a great advantage as we did not enjoy our stay at all.
Im sure we would have felt differently about our stay if the hotel was less busy and we would have been able to ust the facilities that we had paid for.
The best part of the Carden park was driving out of the drive, the hotel had spoilt my partners birthday surprise and will never return to this hotel or suggest to others.

Stayed for one night with my wife on a weekend, including a very nice meal, indeed the food could not be faulted. The location of the hotel is a tad out in the sticks but is well worth a trip, staff are friendly rooms are very comfortable. Rgds, S&S.

We stayed at this hotel to do some January sales shopping in Chester McArthur Glen and to visit Chester. It's a really nice hotel, beautiful grounds and pretty special place to go. It has a championship golf course, show cooking and spa facilities.

The only disappointment was that our room was not in the main building, it was in a purpose built block of rooms at the back of the hotel. Only the premium rooms are within the hotel itself, all the rest is conference facilities, restaurants etc. Having said that, the room was very comfortable and clean.

We had to call maintenance because one side of the bed had a missing leg so when you laid on the bed you rolled off! Amazing they had not noticed this before, we thought it was hilarious as it took us a while to work out what was wrong. They did fix it though the same day which was good.

The thing we really like about De Vere Hotels is that they supply endless free tea, coffee and biscuits plus some places give free drinks fountains. Makes the weekend away a bit cheaper and more comfortable.

This is the 4th De Vere hotel we have stayed at and we would go back again.

The hotel is an elegant property set in a large estate - it takes ten minutes to drive from the gate house to reception. You can see the hills of Wales out to the west - they were covered in snow during my three night visit. Very comfortable rooms - i stayed in one of the outside rooms - balcony, large kingsize bed - marble clad bathroom full of large soft fluffy towels and lotions to pamper yourself - or someone else with. The food is exceptional - try the Brasserie and Redmonds restaurant - the breakfast should suit everyone , the lunch covers all the bases from curry to salads , the evening meal being tip top - try the lamb shank out of this world.

Service is of a high standard , only slight down point being the need for more bar staff when the place is packed for a major function.

Golf is on the menu , with the spa on hand to massage the streched muscles.

I was impressed - i think the majority of people visiting will be too.
