“If this is 4 star then I.....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2011

Drive entrance and setting is lovely and from outside the hotel it looks all fine and dandy but not inside. In my opinion the hotel needs a multi-million pound refurb. In our room which was an upgrade to a golf view room, had no hot water from the hot tap or shower so had to go to dinner without being able to freshen up properly. The woodwork needs varnishing, there is bird poop everywhere around the hotel and its windows. My quilt cover had a 10 inch hole at the seam and the room had a funny smell on entering. The bathroom grouting is dirty. Two out of four showers in the leisure pool changing rooms were out of action and the two that were just dribbled water out n they are so small n dark it was like trying to shower in a coffin! The bottle green wrought iron table n chairs outside are badly losing their paint. Dining room carpet thread bear on stairs. Pillows n mattress hard. Need I go on... If this is what people go for then fine but.personally I will not choose a De Vere hotel in future as it is too expensive to be disappointed and disgusted. Hope whoever reads this finds my review helpful.

Just stayed for two nights with my wife mid week. If you book a golf view room in the main hotel be careful you don't get one with a small window. There are other rooms with huge windows. This hotel does not have air conditioning either and our room therefore was very hot. There was a fan in the wardrobe, amazing considering it's the 21'st century!! However, all in all the hotel is very nice. You do have to pay for what seems everything. We had the breakfast/ dinner included deal. The food was very nice but if you fancied something off the a'l a cart menu, you had to pay extra if you went over your allowance. If you fancy a golf/ spa break then the hotel is very nice. Just remember that you are in UK and nothing is cheap.

Stayed here for a few days with a Golf Society. The location is stunning, with great countryside views and two fantastic golf courses. The venue provides a hotel and spa, with a separate building for the golf Clubhouse, Pro Shop and bar, some 600 yards away uphill. This review focuses on the main hotel and spa, although it is worth noting that the facilities and the clubhouse are first class. The spa is a good size with great pool and facilities. De Vere have certainly spent some money on this place as it is very well kept together, despite the very large property. Rooms are very comfortable with quality linen and furnishings, safe TV and the usual. Nice bathroom with fine toiletries. The main bar is a good size with plenty of room for the many large groups that were visiting. Not sure I’d like that if I was staying with just my partner, as the place was quite lively even on a Sunday evening – notoriously quiet in many venues of this type. Good choice of bar food and beers coupled with an interesting cocktail list makes this place a central meeting point. The restaurant is quite large but is cleverly partitioned to keep groups together or apart. There is a Carvery – which we used – and an a la carte menu, which we did not sample. The food was fine if a little basic…but there were no complaints from the group I was with as even the healthiest of appetites was well catered for with sizeable portions. All in all, a nice place. There were no complaints from the group about anything which is quite unusual, so a good thumbs up! However I am not sure if I would go with my significant other, if only for the reason that it really is quite a large place seemingly catering for groups. Not really a complaint, just a preference.

We come to this hotel nearly ever month! It has to be one of my favourite places to come! As you travel down the country road to the Carden Park you start to fade into relaxation before you have even got to the actual hotel! The accomodation is fantastic! I coun't ask for a nicer nights sleep. Breakfast is also lovely, however make sure you go down earlier as it does get busy around 9.00am and looses the relaxation feel!

Where the Carden Park is located is perfect for getting to specific locations such as the zoo which is an attraction the can not be missed and also the park ride is only 20 minuites down the road (very easy with sat navs!) Would definatley recommend using the park and ride service as it only costs £1.70 return and is so easy to do.

The service at the Carden Park is always fantastic when we go and we would reccomend to anyone who just wants to chill out or enjoy activities on site such as golf, go ape, archery etc and for the ladies THE SPA!! The grounds are also lovely to walk around aswell. I always reccomend this hotel to my customers as I am a travel agent, it is even suited for families as there is plenty of things to do on site for the children!

The Carden Park is set amongst acres of countryside including a golf course. The pictures don't do it justice. Myself and my grown up daughter travelled with our friends and their two year old son. We had a room with an adapted bathroom with roll in shower (suitable for a wheelchair user) which, with a little tweaking could have been excellent rather than just good. The room was clean, tidy and very comfortable. The swimming pool was lovely, very quiet at 7.30am but really busy at 4.30pm. The service was very good indeed, and excellent in the bar. The staff were very helpful and courteous, but also friendly. It felt as if nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was very good to, with a lady on hand cooking eggs to order, and in any way you liked. It was all well presented and piping hot. We would definitely stay there again as the on-site facilities we very, very good. Lots to do, lots of activities and all set in wonderful surroundings.

Fifth stay at this hotel, family room good all staff fantastic and helpful as we have a 14 week old baby. Now for bad bit- I am don't eat any meat never have all my life and only eat small amount of fish so ordered poached plaice with spinach and clam and potato chowder, underneath the fish underneath the spinach was cubes of bacon mixed in with the sauce! NOT STATED ON THE MENU complaint at first was ignored so spoke to restaurant manager (a nice man), chef came out of kitchen had been on phone to a friend for 20 mins and couldn't be bothered to see me (I was told this by manager)! Chef basically rudely told me the issue was not an issue and was my problem! He was very intimidating and aggressive actually made me cry I have NEVER been spoken to by a stranger in this manner before. Manager was so apologetic as witnessed whole ordeal, husband then went to speak to chef who when faced with man was much more accommodating! The restaurant needs a good clean as food on Walls and dirt around base of tables what has happened to this once lovely restaurant? I have to stress that the rest of the staff are lovely in this hotel and apparently now the menu will be reassessed!

Stayed there a few times for business reasons.
The different rooms I had -all located outside the main building- were overall comfortable, fairly large and clean. The only thing is that being located quite far from the reception might be a little of a burden, particularly in freezing winter like Dec. 2010.
Breakfast was really good, although served a bit late for business travellers with no effort from the staff to start a bit earlier. Food served for dinner is rather basic.
The location is fantastic.
As for the fitness center and the pool, I was not able to try them as they never opened during non-business hours (ie before 8am and after 8pm)... what a pity!
The staff is overall OK, however I feel the same as another traveller, ie no effort to be particularly smiling, accomodating or helpful.
Overall, certainly a good choice for leisure or vacations (hence the "4"); fair & decent for business (would rank "3").
