“A lovely hotel...but watch out when booking your dinner reservation online!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

My boyfriend and I have stayed at this hotel on three occasions and we have thoroughly enjoyed each experience. However on the third occasion (1st June 2013), my boyfriend had booked a dinner reservation for us both which included a three course meal and a coffee. Please note: it does not include a drink. My boyfriend had booked our dinner reservation online and the website did not ask him what time he would like to book it for. So when we arrived at the restaurant, we was told by a waitress that they were fully booked and had no knowledge of our dinner reservation. She explained to us that we could either have our food outside (by that time, it was getting cold) or have our meal in our rooms. I was disgusted and told her that since we had paid £54 for a three course meal, we should be entitled to a table in the restaurant. She asked us to sit in the reserved area (which is completely pointless because no one sat there all night) and said that she would enquire with her manager. A minute later, another waitress came up to us and told us to leave the reserved area. Thankfully however, the waitress who had initially been dealing with our situation had returned and explained that there was a table available for us both. We were seated and we enjoyed a lovely meal. Everything in the room was as wonderful as before and despite slight blip with our dinner reservation, we will be returning to stay and sample another enjoyable three course meal. Just please be aware of booking your dinner reservation online...when you arrive, enquire about it and book the time then.

Room Tip: Don't book your dinner reservation online...book it via phone

Thank you for your feedback, I am pleased to hear you had a lovely time overall however I am so disappointed to hear about your initial experience in the restaurant. Please do not take this as a reflection of the reservations system in our food and beverage areas as I can assure you it is not a common occurrence. I am happy to know that the situation was rectified by the team and I hope to see you soon.

Kind Regards,
Chris Hill - General Manager

Stayed for a long weekend at the end of April to attend R.N.reunion.Friday night was a little hectic as it coincided with other large group bookings such as cricket & football teams.Restaurant did not appear big enough but the staff coped well & we all had a seat eventually. Accomodation was first class & room set aside for Saturday banquet & entertainment was just about big enough for our crowd.Would have been better without the round table settings which took up a lot of space.Food was excellent & waiter service very good.Breakfasts were excellent & the hotel seemed a great venue for future reunions.Only down point is that it is a little too far out of Bristol & coaching or cars are a must if visits to Bristol are required.Would certainly recommend a visit to the S.S.Great Britain, they have made a superb job of the restoration.

Ok I know it's only about 6 weeks since our last stay but this time we were the full compliment of two adults and three boys! we haven't done this for a while well we needn't have worried fantastic rooms (interconnecting) lovely breakfasts, polite staff the Aztec never fails us. We saw most of my Bristol family and they chose to visit us at the hotel! my niece was very interested to see where her Mum and Dad got married and to sit in the tiny deckchairs out at the front.
Thanks again and see you soon x

Room Tip: Ask for interconnecting rooms if you have older children

Yet another Rotary Presidents Night that went very well, lovely meal & well organised service by the young waiters & waitresses, we could see they were very well trained, well done.
Bar staff were very pleasant but found the drink prices a little high compared with other local hotels,
We never stayed the night this time but have in the past.
We will be back to stay in the near future as we did like this hotel.

Your comments relating to the team are much appreciated and I will certainly pass them on. With reference to our bar prices, we benchmark our drink prices regularly against other local hotels and believe we are certainly competitive and in some cases cheaper. Your comments are however taken on board. We hope to welcome you back to the Aztec soon.

Kind Regards

Properly one of the worst hotel experiences I have encountered in a long time. After waiting 5 minutes for the car park entrance to work we had to wait a further 5 minutes for the receptionist to make an appearance. She was not the least a bit welcome, in fact I found her quite rude, even my partner mentioned she was surprised she would be working in a customer facing role.

When entering the room we were really disappointed, we had seen pictures and had high hopes, yet the room was dusty, had holes in the wall and mould in the bathroom, really not what I would expect from a 4 star hotel.

We then spent the rest of the afternoon in the spa which was lovely, the changing rooms were we clean and we had a nice time. When returning to our rooms (in the bath robes provided) our key card would not work. We had to walk back to reception in our bath a robe (which was very embarrassing), just to have another rude encounter with the receptionist, where she didn’t even apologies.

From when we arrived at the hotel we noticed there was food left outside people’s rooms which were still there in the morning- this is just not what you expect from a 4 star hotel! We left early on Monday morning as it was just not a place we wanted to be.

The hotel manager sent me and email asking how was my stay was and to leave positive feed back on trip advisor, he replied with an email saying he would get back to me in a couple of day..... 2 weeks later and I have not heard a thing.

Our wedding took place at the Aztec hotel on May 12th this year, we would both like to say that everyone at the hotel was brilliant, Alec was lovely he helped our day run along very smoothly, he visited our room a couple of times during the morning just to see if we needed anything, and again to take myself down to the registrar before the ceremony. The Culbone suite looked amazing for our ceremony and Alec took care of our music perfectly. once we were married the staff took just over an hour to make the same room look wonderful for our wedding breakfast and the food was out of this world everyone said how much they enjoyed it. Within 45 mins of the wedding breakfast finishing, the room was once again transformed for our evening reception and again the food was faultless. We would just like to say to Lauren our wedding co-ordinator, Alec our informal toastmaster, the chef, the DJ, and everyone else who helped including the evening bar staff thank you all very much for helping make our day run smoothly and giving us a brilliant day to remember thank you so much Debbie and Dave Radford

Room Tip: All our rooms were fab

It is always such a joy in playing our part in making a wedding occasion a memorable event. We aim to be there and assist at all the crucial points and everything in between and I’m so pleased to hear that this was met. I will ensure that your comments are passed on to Alec and Lauren. See you on your anniversary Mr and Mrs Radford!

I stayed at the Aztec on several occasions on business. It's a well run, smart hotel with excellent facilities. Be aware that the leisure facilities are used by non residents so it was always very busy in the pool, even in the early morning. Being on a busy roundabout, I was concerned about noise levels but the rooms are very quiet. In some rooms the television signal was quite poor. It also would have been good to see a selection of fresh bread in the mornings - the only option was toast.

We are currently upgrading our television signal and TV package including the introduction of the F1 channel!. Your comments about the fresh bread in the mornings are a good point and I will ensure this is passed on to the relevant managers to review.
