“Great for Leeds castle but London as well. Perfect location/brilliant staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2010

When we booked this hotel we understood that they'd just had a change of management - but it seems the new people had settled in really well because everything was perfect.

The location is excellent, not just for visiting the nearby Leeds castle but also the county town of Kent (Maidstone) - just a few miles away, and also the beautiful North Downs. And because of the excellent rail link (the hotel is a 2 minute walk from Harrietsham mainline station), this is a perfect location for visitors wishing to get into London with ease and also Ashford International. In fact we went to see West End shows in London and was back at the hotel all tucked up within 90mins

The hotel itself is full of charm. It has a countryside quaintness about it but it's nice and spacious so you never feel cramped. The new landlord and landlady were warm and friendly and bent over backwards to fulfil our needs - in fact they exceeded all expectations.

The rooms were clean, the food is varied and well cooked - and I liked the fact that nothing was too much bother (i.e if you wanted breakfast earlier or later it wasn't a hassle). The staff were all friendly and locals laid back and welcoming

I'd certainly stay again - thanks Roebuck staff.

Stayed for 1 night after visiting Leeds Castle which is a 10 minute ride away so perfect location. 9 bedroom hotel above pub which was handy. Restaurant food was lovely, and staff were very helpful. Rooms were spacious with en-suite and tea and coffee in room. Shower was good. When we stayed, the other 8 rooms were taken by a group who had a do at the castle, and a cab ride there was only £10. Breakfast was great- plentiful. Would recommend for a comfortable and friendly overnight stay.

This is a nine bedrrom inn above a pub. It is very easy to find and close to major roads. We stayed for two nights.
Our room was small but nicely furnished. It had a dressing table/study area, wardrobe, bedside drawers and flat screen tv. The bathroom was spacious, looked recently furnished and had a good shower.
They serve a full English breakfast, specify if you have any requests as you are not asked what you want it is just bought out to you. We had a problem of ordering a vegetarian breakfast but through lack of communication the breakfast staff not knowing.
The pub food is nice and reasonably priced. There are many veggie options and the staff are friendly. It can be loud though, we heard kareoke from our room till midnight on a friday.
We were disapointed that after our first night we were not given fresh tea cups or milk and the toilet rolls were not replaced. The room was also dusty.
This would be good for staying in for business trips due to great location but is not ideally suited for leisure trips or multiple nights.

We stayed in this inn for one night while walking the North Downs Way in Kent. This is a pleasant recently refurbished pub with two bars - one for the punters and the other bar where food is served. The 9 bedrooms have all been refurbished to a high standard and are very comfortable. Our room was ensuite, with a large bathroom with shower. Welcome tray supplied with tea and coffee.

We ate in the restaurant, which was the usual pub grub and very tasty. Full English Breakfast was also included - if you don't want this, I suggest mentioning it to them the night before otherwise you will be served the full monty!

This is a very comfortable and relaxing place, close to major transport links - Eurostar, motorways and ferries. Recommended.

  • Liked — Newly refurbished and very clean
  • Disliked — Above a pub might not suit everyone
