“Nice Weekend”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

We stayed here for 2 nights from the living social deal as a wedding gift and we upgrade to the executive suite which is well worth it,i had organised flowers and champagne to be placed in our room on arrival as it was my wife's birthday.
when we got to check in time 2.00pm our room wasn't ready for about an hour which wasn't really a problem as we had a drink in the bar as we waited.
when we eventually got to the room the flowers were there but no champagne as it was still on its way which disappointed me a bit as we waited a while for our room, anyway we got it in the end and the flowers were really nice and lasted for over a week.
Besides that the only other thing that bothered us a bit was the flies in the bar area but suppose you cant do much about that.
its a really nice hotel and the staff were really friendly and our executive room was very spacious.if you don't want to eat in the hotel then 5 minutes down the road in the village Huby there's a nice little pub called the Mended drum and the service and food was fantastic which we totally recommend,it was that nice we ate both nights there instead of the hotel and a lot cheaper too.
all in all it was a nice weekend and a lovely place and probably would come back again.

Stayed 2 nights at Tulip Inn which was booked and paid for through Living Social deal as a birthday present. Initially when I tried to book the bank holiday weekend was told by the receptionist that she would be in trouble with her manager if she allowed us to use our voucher on a bank holiday! Checked terms and conditions of voucher and rang back. Booked room first then told them I had a voucher...no problem! Web site states that there is a shuttle bus from the hotel into York. On the second day I asked receptionist how I booked the bus and was told 'sorry it's broken down!' When we were speaking to other guests the story of the bus changed depending which receptionist you spoke to. When I enquired later whether the bus was mended I was told by the (new) receptionist that there had never been a shuttle bus!! Tried to pre book a taxi but was told no problems with taxis just tell us when you are ready and they will be here in 10 minutes. Did so...no taxis! Came back to hotel at 9.30pm and tried to order sandwich in bar but was told food finished at 9pm. Checked menu in room and quite clearly states 10pm. Even though we did have problems whilst we were there at no time was there any management present. The hotel is run by young staff taking a lot of 'flack' for things that are not their responsibility. The hotel is OK only a premier inn standard but then we only paid premier inn price. I would have been furious had we paid full price as some of the guests had.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked a grassed courtyard and was quiet. Other guest's rooms overlooked car park...

Friendly staff, great value and decent place. Bar expensive, couldn't get served due to no one being there despite waiting for 10 minutes and couldn't get menu or prices for the restaurant despite asking so ate elsewhere (Mended Drum and Sidings Restaurant both about a mile away.). We paid £69 for 2 nights B&B so got good value for money, someone else in a similar room paid £178 and then was told that didn't include breakfast. Good location for York used the park and ride at Rawcliffe Bar £2.60 each including parking.

A few friends and I went to York races and then stayed in the inn just for one night. The staff were nice, the rooms were clean and the breakfast was good. The only problem we had was finding our room, but after a few drink I suppose it would be tricky for anyone ;),.. Tip for anyone who goes.. When they say breakfast finishes at 9:30, what they mean is they stop bringing out fresh food then, but we were still there till about half 10 eating. It is a short taxi journey from the town centre and the taxi back that night cost about £25.

Room Tip: All the rooms we had were small and standard . With a bathroom, tv And double bed. But we just booke...

Stayed here on business as I got a decent deal. Car Park is too smal for number of rooms. The restaurant is well overpriced for a 3 star hotel. The rooms were pretty small. Only plus was free wifi, which was really essential as mobile phone signal for a 3G card is non existant.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

We stayed on 4th August and were attending a friends wedding at another venue. We arrived at the Hotel and we were impressed by look of the hotel. The check in was quick and efficient. Unfortunately it was all downhill after that. The bedroom was very small for the price, there were no nets or blinds on the windows so people staying in one of the other wings or people in the garden below would be able to see straight into the room, the toilet in the bathroom was too near to the bathroom door so if the door was even slightly ajar those people in the garden would be able to see you and there was a strange smell in the room as soon as we entered which meant we had to open all the windows as wide as we could to let air in. We went to reception to ask if there was anywhere local for us to eat, we were told that the nearest place to eat was over 2 miles away. So we decided to eat in the hotel bar. The price list was extortionate. But as we had no choice we ordered the fish and chips and a burger. The food arrived quickly and to our surprise was excellent. If only the rest of the hotel was as good as the food. After we had eaten we went back to our room to get ready for the wedding. Now while in our rooms several children (who were attending a wedding at the hotel) started knocking doors, shouting "Room Service" and then running off. As I had booked a "quiet room" I wasn't too impressed. When we went down to reception we told them what had happened, we were told that she knew who it was and apologised, She went straight to the phone and called who I assumed was the manager and reported it straight away. The night stay wasn't great as it was warm and there was no air conditioning. I was pleased that we had decided not to pay the extra for the breakfast as we found somewhere in York that served a wonderful breakfast for less than half the price.

Overall the customer service was OK, the food was good but overpriced and the room wasn't worth the money.
