we have stayed at Matfen 3 times now, this time for my 30th birthday and we brought our children this time. We stayed in room 4 which again was a gorgeous room, huge infact, lovely views from the room and the bathroom is massive! Sofa bed was made up for our little girl and she seemed too love the space calling the hotel "a castle". my mother in law was in room 10 which again was a lovely room, hers was a double which she shared with our little boy. We ate in the club house and i must say the food was gorgeous, the steak was beautiful and it was a nice change from eating in the ,library. The prices were very good and it cost 53.99 for 5 of us too eat in there and the portion size was really good. The only downside we had was the noise from a wedding going on and noisy guests running up and down the corridor, wasnt expecting this at all. we did try and ring too the night porter but there was no answer, which was a shame as it did disturb our nights sleep. Other than that the staff are pleasant and helpful, and we looked around the west wing which is amazing, the stair case is beautiful and the vault downstairs is exceptional! The swimming pool was quite busy when we got there with other families which was nice as we didnt want too disturb other guests but there was no couples there so the children enjoyed themselves.
Im sure we will be back at some point, was abit annoyed over the guests being noisy but its such a beautiful hotel it would be a shame not too return at some point, hopefully when its warmer!
