“Lovely place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2009

This turned out to be a lovely clean place. All the staff were friendly and helpful. There was a good choice of food on the menu and you weren't rushed.

A great Friday night stopover on way to Cornwall. Excellent bistro pub grub, very friendly and welcoming bar, clean and tidy room. Car park at the rear. A few minutes from A303. Will definately stay again.

I have stayed at many old fashioned small English Hotels and this is one of my favorites. The restaurant and bar are very nice, the staff is friendly and Ilchester is very convenient to Yeovil. Entertainment options are typical only a few in room channels on the TV but the Bar is inviting and has flat panel TVs with wireless internet. The restaurant is excellent as is the Italian place next door. I highly recommend it and look foward to my next visit.

  • Liked — They have excellent staff, restaurant & internet.
  • Disliked — Paying a deposit to book a reservation.

I spent a very enjoyable two days here mid week in the middle of may. The overall atmosphere and attitude of their staff was fantastic, they have a very skilled group of people running the place. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious with very good bathrooms which is always a plus point! The food is just outstanding, well worth a try. Overall the ilchester arms is definatley a place to stay while in the somerset area, its an uplifting experience.

Very very good from start to finish. I understand they recently underwent some changes. I travel a lot with work and very rarely am I spurred to right reviews. The room was well fitted and clean; the staff was polite and friendly and were always happy to do all they could with fitting in with my requirements.

From a business travellers point of view they had everything you could need and I will be sure to stay there on future trips to Yeovil.

The hotel and restaurant are fairly informal, an old Georgian town house with wood floors really gives the feel that you are somewhere special, but still maintains a very relaxed atmosphere. I must also make a special point of mentioning the food. Delicious!! The menu was fresh and inspiring and cooked with what felt like passion. You really can tell that the people here care about food, not to mention customer services.

So 10 out of 10, very happy to recommend them!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2006

Stayed here for three nights in mid-August 2006 with wife and daughter. First two nights in a family room, last night in two adjoining rooms at no extra charge.

The family room was adjacent to the road and passing traffic woke us up quite early each of the first two mornings (although, to be fair, jet-lag also probably contributed); no such issue with the last night. We also had the mother of all thunderstorms one night, causing mild dampness in the room as a result of driving rain against the door and windows. Not a big deal though, and definitely a rare occurrence.

Hotel staff were welcoming, polite and friendly - and nothing was too much trouble.

Bar and restaurant were both very pleasant and decorated to a high standard; same comment applies throughout the property. Breakfast (three days) and dinner (one night) were all excellent.

Room ventilation was a minor problem - our shower set off the fire alarm despite our heeding the signs warning us to keep the bathroom door closed while showering.

At least by British standards, the bathrooms were of a surprisingly good quality.

One area of possible improvement that only requires minimal organisation - seating at breakfast. On each of the three days we were there we entered the restaurant to find singles or couples sitting at tables designed for four or six persons, while tables for two remained unused. The three of us ended up having to crowd ourselves around a very small table.

Would we return? DEFINITELY, and probably will do so in January. A great place for travelling foreign tourists, UK long-weekenders, or businessmen alike.

Book directly via [--] and save the family-run business some commission!

On arriving and checking out found staff rude. Shower in bathroom leaking badly when we told them about it they said it’s been like that for a while but they did get some one to look at it but they just made it so we could not use it.

Would not recommend people to stay here.
