Enjoy tea and cake on the canal side in the cafe. Understand the whole production process on one of the pre-booked guided tours. Then finish the day off with a visit to the Burleigh factory shop, where we have a wide range of handcrafted pottery. The Prince's Regeneration Trust raised £8.5 miliion to purchase the Middleport Pottery site and to carry out restoration work which prevented existing jobs and skills from being lost from the area and will ensure the future of this unique site. The funding came from a range of sources including the Regional Growth Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund, English Heritage and European Regional Development Fund as well as from private donors, Stoke-On-Trent City Council has been a key partner in the project. Middleport Pottery continues to be the 'Home of Burleigh'; the pottery business which occupies approximately half the site. Burleigh is now owned by Denby Holdings and they continue to produce beautiful ware in the building which has been their home since it was bulit in 1888. In 2014 the atmospheric site will feature a new visitors centre to explore and cafe to enjoy. These facilities will attract visitors from out of the area and offer spaces and facilities for community use. We will also offer a varied programme of education, events and activities. In the remaining space, workshops will be created for small creative businesses bringing further jobs to the area, and allow them to grow and flourish. On the top floor, at the core of the site, serviced office space will also provide accommodation for small businesses. We are committed to offering training and development and are working in partnership with the other Prince's Charities, Staffordshire University and many local organisations to offer exciting opportunities. For the moment visitors are very welcome in the Burleigh shop and pre bookable factory tours are available.

“My visit from Edinburgh”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2012

To see my sister who lives in Burslem...I often pop in to the Factory shop as im a collector of blue and white...A pity there is only one of these places left to see how its all done, its the history of the place shame they took so many of the kilns down, it would have been great to see them doting the lanscape, Patricia

“wonderful depiction of a bygone era”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2012

I was told by one of the staff that this is the only remaining place in Stoke-on-Trent where visitors can watch a piece of clay enter one side of the factory and leave the exit end of the factory as an artistic piece of ceramic ware. Pictures in the shop of royal visitors to the factory and I can imagine this place will at sometime in the future, be used as a location for a historical drama TV filming - it feels so authentic.

“Extensive factory shop.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2012

We did not have time to take a factory tour, but a visit to the factory shop was very interesting. They make some of my favorite pottery. We saw all the pottery currently being produced - many patterns. Their small parking lot was full but we easily found parking on a nearby street.

“Made in England, Made in Stoke on Trent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2012

An original pottery in the original building. Some of the best domestic ranges available and made in front of your eyes. Not a far eastern hand to be seen. Wonderful experience to see crockery still being made as it was years ago and keeping jobs in Britain. The shop is wonderful with original factory features and discounted items for sale, tea and biscuits supplied as you shop.
