We've been visiting Thorp Perrow ever since the children were toddlers and hope to go on doing so for ever! This is one of the rare places where there really is something for everyone.
When the children were tiny, it was great to be able to allow them 'off leash' to run safely. There are so many different paths here, different routes, different things to discover that they can explore and find something fresh every time.
We have a season ticket which is excellent value, and live close enough to be able to drop in regularly. The children know the birds in the falconry centre by name - and the staff know the children! They love visiting the animals too - especially the meerkats!
As a family, it's wonderful to be able to do something together. At Thorp Perrow, my 93 year old mother can wander happily along level paths delighting in the gardens, while my children can go mad in the playground. We can all enjoy the different 'trails' which are regularly put on to engage the young, and we can all enjoy the very reasonably priced cafe. There are also a range of special events here, including open air theatre in the summer - great fun.
It's hard to choose a favourite season here. Spring is amazing, with more different types of daffodil that I knew existed. Summer can be a little busy - we tend not to come so much then. Autumn is incredible - the arboretum has been planted for maximum autumn colour. My personal treasured memory, though, is a day last winter when the snow was so deep that we were the only visitors, and we were able to track the wild birds and animals' footprints in the snow. Magical.
