“Wonderful stay”

A lovely location and a friendly welcome, very clean and well presented with a great breakfast. A tour of the Watermill is well worth it

I know I have remarked on this B&B before, but despite it appearing on TV as an integral part in the Big Bread Experiment it remains homely and charming, with Lionel and Alison playing host perfectly to their guests, serving up steaming pots of tea, delicious homemade cake (parkin on this visit), and locally sourced breakfasts each morning. If you are visiting the Dales or York moors then this really is the place to stay.

We've just returned from a weekend at Watermill House in the Yorkshire Dales booked as a Christmas present for us by our son and daughter as a base for a tour of the Black Sheep Brewery in nearby Masham.
Little did they know that we'd previously stayed at Crakehall Watermill, albeit on the Caravan Club CL located in an idyllic setting just beyond the House and Mill. This time we were able to indulge in the luxurious hospitality offered by Alison and Lionel in their wonderful B&B. We were afforded the same ultra-warm welcome as before, but this time with the added bonus of home-made cakes and tea in the cosy and welcoming guest's lounge complete with wood burning stove, before settling into our immaculate and equally cosy bedroom with superbly comfortable bed and bedding and with its own spacious bathroom complete with bath and shower.
Lionel's full Yorkshire breakfasts are a delight not to be missed and come complete with home-made preserves and home-made bread from Lionel's home-ground flour from the adjacent recently restored historic Crakehall Watermill. As you may gather, there's a bit of a home-made theme going on here that Alison and Lionel can be justifiably proud of - forget Carbon footprint issues; the only ones are the white dusty variety from Lionel delivering the flour he's just milled all of 20 feet from the Mill to the kitchen.
Alison and Lionel are one of the nicest and friendliest couples you would wish to meet, and just in case that's not enough, they are also Green by name and green by nature with their attitude towards and respect of the environment, and have created a truly magical little bit of heaven in God's own county. Roger and Ann.

Alison & Lionel couldn't have made our stay with them any more perfect. They helped with planning our evening beforehand, gave us a very warm and genuine welcome and ensured everything we could possibly need was available. Our bedroom and bathroom were beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean and they have put a lot of thought into making sure that their guest's whole experience is most enjoyable. A super breakfast was cooked to order and complemented by toast made with grain from their flour mill. Highly recommended!

My wife, mother-in-law and myself booked two rooms in Watermill House for the return drive from Scotland to London. The owners, Lionel and Alison, have created the perfect Guest House. The welcome by both was honest and sincere. We were showing to impeccably clean and well furnished period rooms and then served with tea and mince pies in the guest lounge, whilst Lionel lit the wood stove.
The beds are extremely comfortable - something that I rate as essential.

We walked over the river bridge to the Bay Horse Inn and were welcomed by the landlord. The food is home cooked and excellent. The pheasant - best I have ever had.
On our return, the guest lounge was warm and there was fresh milk and chocolates placed by our rooms - a very nice touch.

Alison and Lionel both have a fantastic attitude to their environment and surroundings. Anyone who can find fault with this establishment is nuts.

I stayed just one night. The place is excellent. Clean, wide and large rooms, luminous and spotless bathroom.....After a warm welcome from Alison&Lionel with a cup of tea you discover that all is in its place and there is a place for all things they offer. Nice seatting room with a powerful pipe.......Breakfast is served in a beautiful and quiet room; plenty of local products.
Next morning Alison took me 5 miles away to where I have to go to pick my son form a school....(!!!!!!!) And always smiling.
Don't doubt. If you need to be around don't think. Just go.......

My wife, 2 year old granddaughter & myself stayed in the 2 bed cottage at the end of September . We were given a really warm welcome, the cottage was really comfortable with a log fire all set, the rooms were all clean as were the appliances. Nothing was left to chance by Alison & Lionel, they seem to have thought of everything. This was our first time there but it will not be the last. Thank you for a really wonderful holiday, PS the weather was fantastic that week.
