Owner description: Only 3km away from the centre of Zabljak, Malo (Small) and Veliko (Big) Lakes merge into Crno (Black) Lake. This lake is specific for its dark blue shade of water, which often seems black, and the effect is created by the Lake's depth and the dense Durmitor pine forest surrounding it.

“Beautiful lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

We walked there in a downpour (and so goes our luck, the sun came out just as we got to the lakefront, soaking wet!) but the lake itself is stunning. It would have been nice to have rented bikes and biked around the entirety.

“Truly a beautiful place.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

Walking from the entrance of the park to the lake was wonderful and then seeing the mirror lake reflecting the mountains was worth the dozen or so photos I took there. Very worth a visit and perfect place to enjoy Nature.

“Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

We were able to walk to the lake from Hotel Soa, where we were staying. We visited the lake a couple of times. We were not able to walk all the way round as the ice melt had produced a series of waterfalls at the bottom end of the lake. Some negotiated them barefooted, but we bottled out and retraced our steps. This did not detract from our enjoyment of the lake - the path and views were varied and it was a most enjoyable experience.
Unfortunately the cafe/restaurant had got burned down and was in the process of being rebuilt. Not sure when this will be completed, so maybe be a good idea to take your own refreshments.
Our experience of the National Park Visitors Centre near the entrance to the lake was not so good. We have never come across in all our travels such unhelpful, surly to the point of being rude staff! But perhaps we caught them on a bad day!
This was a shame as we would have liked to have done more walking (rather than mountain climbing) in the area. The walk round the lake is not particularly long or strenuous. But we were unable to find adequate information and maps to put together longer walks at the lower elevations, despite there being trails and all sorts of marks on trees all over the place.
Guess this goes with an area under tourist development. Perhaps in time there will be better way-marked paths created for those who can't quite manage to scramble and hike up the mountains but who would still like to do a decent walk.
