“A truly memorable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2006

My husband and I made the mistake of paying for our room in advance through a website called globebookings.com. They never paid the hotel and of course when we arrived at Pelangi there was no longer a reservation or room for us.

As you can imagine we were quite distraught - but the hotel staff were helpful. They gave us a lovely sea-facing room - not at the price that I thought I'd found online - but not far off either. In addition we didn't have to pay for breakfast during our stay.

Over the next 10 days all our stress melted away. The staff were friendly, the facilities great and the food wonderful. The Spa is heavenly and the hotel has 2 glorious pools. My only quibble would be that you get charged for everything - even a game of darts - but that's no different to resorts all over the world. What's important is that we left the hotel well rested and well fed.

I would like to thank Pelangi for turning our nightmare experience into a dream holiday - and the chef for a killer Nasi Lemak and his sizzling tiger prawns!

Hi,

I spent nine days in total at the Pelangi in August as part of my honeymoon, it was the best holiday we've ever had. We did it in two parts on our trip the first four days and the last five, we had great rooms both times clean and bug free :-)

The staff were great and made you feel very much at home, our favourite was Matt (obviously not his real name but the one he liked to use for tourists) he worked in the fun pub in the evenings.

I have to admit though the food from room service and the pool bar were good but we didn't eat in the hotel apart from that as the places outside were so good we didn't need to (and alot cheaper).

We've really missed being in Langkawi since we've been back so hope to return next year.

  • Disliked — It's quite dark at night

My experience of Pelangi was quite dissapointing. I have read through the other reviews and agree that the rooms are very dark and depressing and really need some updating - and I believe that this has happened since I was there. I'm also finding it amazing that so many people rated this resort so highly.

I understand that in Malaysia you have to expect rather a lot of insects and wildlife, However, I did not expect to be woken up in the middle of the night by a thick, 6 inch centerpied crawling across the headboard of my bed and into my hair! I also didn't expect to see large cockroaches in the bathroom and flying off the walls at me. I have been to many resorts around the world that keep the problem of insects under control and to a miniumum, I didn't feel this was the case at Palangi.

On the plus side, the food was very good although the abundance of cats winding themselves around your legs as you ate and birds landing on the table ment that I couldn't enjoy the food as much as I should have.

I feel upset that we paid a reasonable amount of money for this 4*hotel which I would probably class as a 3*.

  • Disliked — amount of insects infesting the room & dark dingy room

Dear Guest,

Warmest greeting from Langkawi
I would very sincerely appreciate that your comments be accurate and timely to be fair to the Resort and its Team.
Your visit, if not mistaken as mentioned by your goodselves, is from November 2004, isn't it a little late to make a remark and comments after two years? but it is surely not fair as since then we have drastically improved and renovated our rooms (deluxe and above categories).
Allow me once again to mention that we sincerely appreciate and ask for our guests' feedback but it will surely assist all our guests if we fail to provide as per your expectation to contact us personally when at the Resort and not when you are back home where there will be nothing much, regrettably, we could assist with.
Last we are not as creepy as some could let you imagine but keep in mind that we are in middle of nature and nature time to time take refuge in our chalets. (Our pest control is done very regularly, is very effective and is ecologically friendly as much as Pest control we can be!)

Thank you and have all a wonderful day

Francois Sigrist

We have just returned from a super relaxing week at the Pelangi, we had showers 4 days out of the 7...monsoon season... but it is warm rain and it didn't stop us having a wonderful time, the kids swam in it and we just stayed under a sun umbrella reading while it rained around us. The staff are very friendly and helpful, we had a blown bulb in our room mentioned it to the front desk on our way out and it was replaced by the time we returned. The grounds are immaculate .... yes there is the odd creepy crawly and a lizard that likes swimming across the main pool ! (our kids thought that was really cool), but it is Malaysia so what do you expect. We ate out most of the time but the meals we had at the Pelangi were good.
We were approached by the manager who asked if everything was okay. He encouraged us to give honest and frank feedback and invited us to tell him personally if we had any problems or suggestions for improvement, he tries hard to please everybody but lets face it that's an impossible task.
Thanks Pelangi for a great relaxing holiday

We visited Pelangi Beach Hotel following a trip around Australia. We stayed at the Pelangi Beach Hotel for 5 days, and it was our little piece of luxury/heaven before going back home.

The place was amazing, the staff were extremely helpful and polite, and the hotel was very clean. We were treated so well during our stay at Pelangi Beach.

The rooms were large and luxurious, and every couple of days the entire resort was fumigated, to make sure there were no mosquitos bothering you. Our rooms were cleaned every day also.

We both enjoyed massages on the beach and enjoyed the cuisine in the several restaurants at Pelangi. Nothing was over priced, and again the service was excellent.

We could not fault anything at this hotel. We will most definately return to the Pelangi Beach Hotel.

After having an amazing time in Borneo we travelled onwards to Langkai - and more specifically the Pelangi beach. Absolutely terrible - 3 star maximum. Covered with cockroaches (everywhere - we were moved 3 times in 4 days) and birds. The beach is grotty and the location isnt great - your sidled up with all the backback style "resorts". Stay at the datai or anderman or even better go somewhere more interesting than langkawi.

We have just returned from a really wonderful fortnight at the Pelangi Beach Resort. Our children, both in their early twenties accompanied us. We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived at the resort. Special thanks to Ishmail (porter) for his guided buggy tour of the complex and his wealth of ideas on what we should do during our stay on the island. We opted for the upgrade to a seaview room and this enabled us to enjoy the beautiful sunsets over the sea from our own balcony. The rooms were large, well equipped and traditionally built. We did not find them dark as mentioned by one reviewer, but cool and welcoming from the heat of the day.
The two very large swimming pools were immaculate and the helpful, pool bar staff were on hand to meet our every need with a very friendly smile. The fruit cocktails were a perfect way to quench our thirst. There were plenty of sunloungers and towels available all day.
Though the food at the Pelangi Beach was very good and not too expensive, we also ate out at several restaurants in the local area. Top marks go to The Lighthouse, The Bon Ton and the Sunsutra for delicious cuisine at extremely low prices.
Taxis were incredibly cheap,we hired a taxi (air conditioned mini bus) for 3 hours while we toured the island. The fare was less than ten pounds.
The complex also has internet access, essential for two young adults wishing to keep up with their friends.
Diving and golf were both extremely well-organised by the Recreation Staff and were enjoyed immensely. Thank you Pelangi Beach for a superb holiday, we will definitely be returning.
