“Tranquil Oasis”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

My wife and I have been going to Langkawi for many years and one of the places we have wanted to stay at Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort, so this time we did as the hotel has had a major up grade.
We were not disapointed , the atmosphere, location and ambience are superb. The day we arrived we were booked into a room in a chalet by the lake which was very nice. On the 2nd day due to a guest in the room above flushing and bloking the toilet there was a flood and some water was dripping into our room. The when we advised the front desk we were asked to put our things together and they would move us right away. My wife and I were a little shocked by the speed and were disapointed by leaving our lakeside but our disapointment was short lived..
We were moved to beach side - it was great, the view, the sound of the waves - god it was great.
The complex, the grounds everything about Meritus is wonderful, a very short walk to all the shops and great restaurants.
Our favourite restaurant had always been Orckid Ria the food here is still very good but it has become so popular that you do have to wait for your food. I would suggest the following as great options.
1) Eagle House Seafood Village - the food here is very good and on a par with Orkid Ria maybe even a little better. Would give it 4/5 stars
2) If you venture into Kuah Town try Water Garden - which during the day is one of the best hawker centres in Langkawi and at night becomes a top rated seafood restaurant. Would give 4.5/5 stars.

Over all this was a wonderful stay in Langkawi and Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort was wonderful and we found the staff were really good, always helpful and accommodating. I hate to nit pick but my only knock was the breakfast - the Malaysian breakfast dishes were not up to par and should have been much better. The restaurant & kitchen staff were so good it was a pleasure dealing with them. I will give this hotel 4.75 / 5 thats my nit pick but still a great place to stay.

Room Tip: My suggestion is to request lakeside or beach side.

This is one of those places which were created as a resort and turned into an east European cheap mass vacation spot with the typical "how much can one stack on a single plate for breakfast" competitions and other similar activities. The rooms (or chalet's) as they call it are uninsulated and noisy wood shacks with split air condition units which I have to admit do have some sort of Asian charm which may appear exotic and therefore nice to some travelers but this is far from what a well traveled individual would expect in terms of comfort and design. The beach is nice and the two pool areas are not bad either but if you are looking for a luxury getaway this is not the right place.

Thank you for providing us with your valued feedback and thoughtfully highlighted your points. I do sincerely apologize for any dissatisfaction or discomfort during your stay.

We are aware of the sound proofing issue with the old rooms and have rectified this concern for all new rooms. It has also proven to be effective as we have not received any similar comments from guests staying in these rooms.

We welcome another opportunity to serve you again with a more positive stay experience.

I stayed for a week mid December and while the resort was busy, it didn't feel like that. It was a week of lying by the pool(s), cocktails and fabulous spa treatments. the rooms are lovely and roomy and sitting on my private balcony each afternoon listening to the short daily downpour was wonderful.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms are newer/refurbished (mine was newer in chalet numer 6)

We spent 7 nights at this wonderful hotel from Jan.5. 2013
When we arrived we were upgraded to the Club Lounge which entitled us to all day free snacks and drinks. An unexpected treat.
Location is excellent and even theough the resort is a peaceful haven, you are still only a few minutes walk to a wide variety of restaurants ,shops and tour organisers.
Our room was beautiful, large, bright with comfortable beds and good linen.
Beautiful beach but probably due to the fear of jellyfish there are not too many people in the water, but it is still lovely for a walk. We took out a kayak and rowed out to a nearby island , lovely experience. There are jet skis available too.Pool areas are excellent and not over crowded.Great area for kids too .Umbrellas are needed for shade but I believe they should be available soon.
The staff were so friendly and helpful at all stages.Niza welcomed us and looked after us so well during our stay.Siti spoiled us in the Club Lounge. Also my husband left his mobile phone in a taxi and the staff phoned around until they found it.
My one issue was the live music in the lobby area in the evenings. It was very loud and not exactly wonderful. If you are around the lobby area , including in the restaurant , or worse in one of the nearby rooms it is hard to escape it. But some people seemed to enjoy it , so I suppose its a matter of taste.
Wish I was there now!

Room Tip: Not too close to lobby due to music noise. Ask for renovated room.

Our room is around the lobby , it is impossible to sleep before 00:30 due to horrible bass sound of music. Actually after this time loudly speaking people are going their rooms about one hour more . Now the time is 03:00 , I am still awake because of neighbor rooms. Because when me and my family came for a good holiday , in here there is a business event, so many people came for motivation. some of them are still looking for a way of motivation in their rooms. Today is my fifth nights of staying and I have 3 more days in this disappointed hotel.

Mosquitos, bugs are bonus for your comforts .

The location of the hotel is amazing. I stayed there for one night and the backyard of the resort is essentially is the beach. The quite beach seems like your private beach as very less crowded. But the not so good thing about langkaawi is that unlike Phuket you can not get down in to water. Beach is not suitable for swmming.

Try to get a room near looby as the hotel premises is very big and you need to walk a lot to find your room. The balcony is very nice to pass time. They provide a small vehicle to move around within hotel especially when moving luggage.

The lobby servers excellence exotic drinks and during the night we stayed there was live music performace, it was awesome.

Room Tip: The rooms are so called traditional style and no very neat. Try to get a good room near pool. That w...

If you want to relax and chill out, this is the place for you. The Pelangi Resort offers traditional tropical island style cottages with all the modern amenities. Service is prompt, the two pools are clean and there is a general cheeriness amongst the staff. When we were in the balcony it was a treat to be out watching the birds, one of whom even fought with us over a slice of pizza! You find a booklet in the room listing potential insect or animal life which may walk into the room but we did not find any. A great addition was a booklet on local folktales.

There is a beautiful private beach of the hotel and it streaches on to the local one. One of the best things about the place is that it is located next to a long line of restaurants and trip planners and both food and sight seeing became an easy thing. Langkawi has many great sights but even if all you want to do is stay at your hotel this is a perfect place to do so.

As a couple we got our privacy but felt it easy to chat with the staff and other travelers too. There did not seem to be any grumpyheads around and it seemed that the place had put everyone in a good mood. Besides honeymooners and families the place also seemed popular amongst the retired european crowd and it definately is a good choice. I went there in Feb 2010.

Room Tip: Higher floors are more romantic, but if travelling with kids or elderly chose the ones below.
