I organised a 3D2N stay at the Mayang Sari for a group of 25 pax. Arrived on the island 9:10am and arranged for massage at the Bintan Idol Massage since we are too early for check in. We were picked u from the jetty terminal. Had lunch after massage at Bintan Idol Cafe. Set lunch was good and our group opt to return again on our day of checking out.
Although we arrived at 2pm at Mayang Sari, we were soon given our rooms. Although service was efficient, we were disappointed that the 12 rooms we requested for months before at the Sea-turtle block area was not given to us. Instead we were give chalets spreading all over the resort. The 2 sea-view chalets which we paid extra for, were even more disappointing. Although at the front row, the 2 chalets at Sea-horse block was facing the grass patch outside the reception and not directly to the sea. We requested for a change of chalet and there was only one other sea-view chalet available. Much to our delight, at the Sting-ray, the view was the best and we are only steps away to the sea.
We booked courts for badminton at the Nirwana Resort Centre @$8/hr/court and for table tennis game which was inside the bowling area. We all had a game of bowling each, extra game at S$4 a game. The next day, we had lunch at Makan Makan, a food court just next to the bowling alley. Walked out to the back of the block and take the steps down to the Archery and Air-rifle area, you'll be greeted with a beautiful scenic view of the area and the sea from a higher view. I paid for 1 session of Archery @$9 for 25 arrows.
The first evening, Helen the coordinator of the resort, walked us around the Nirwana Resort Hotel main block and suggested the 3 outlets we could have our dinner. We chose the Coffeeshop restaurant. Dinner service was rather slow despite the few customers, but since we are on vacation, we tell ourselves to relax and slow down. We ordered Ala Carte and most had the Satay, Fried Kuay Teow and Nasi Goreng. After dinner, we were pleasantly surprised by the appearance of a band of 5 with guitar, bass and a congo drum. Although Indonesians, they entertained us with Mandarin & Hokkien songs and even a Cantonese "Seong Hoi Tan" ! (Shanghai beach). We were thrilled. They returned after their break and offered us more Spanish songs, delightful!
The 2nd night, we ate at the Kelong restaurant. We had their dinner set and the food and service was also wonderful. The view of the sea at the Kelong was also splendid!
The rooms all looked the same, except for the Queen or Twins beds. Some had ants crawling all over. The housekeeper only came with a can of insecticide but the ants still appear elsewhere. We were extra careful with our opened drinks and snacks. The room was spacious and bed was comfy. If you want the sea-view and do not want to pay for the extra, opt for Bumblebee 2 & 3 and Black Ant 2 & 3. These 4 units are behind and in between the sea-view blocks, so you could also see the sea from your porch, although from a further distance.
Stingray 1 offers the shortest distance to the sea. Best view!
Things to do:
To see the sun-rise. Since the row of chalets face North-West, you'll need to go to an open area facing the East. Wake before 5:30am. Take a stroll to the right of the beach, almost 120M you'll reach the end of this private beach area, walk through the rocks at ankle-deep water, depending on the tide. No worries here, cause the water is crystal clear and you could see the steps you're taking. Take a turn to the right, you'll be greeted with the best sun-rise you can imagine! Make sure you are there by 6am. Those of us that made the effort, were awed! Wade back to the main beach and you can walk out almost 40M towards the sea and the water is still only knee deep. Sink yourself into the beautiful sea water and enjoy! The sand is white and fine.
Since we came as a group, we arranged for morning stretching exercise. We were greeted by a lovely Ms Ratna, who led us for both mornings with aerobics and zumba moves to nice hip hop and up beat songs. By the end of the 20 mins session, we were all sweaty and hungry for breakfast.
Overall, we had an enjoyable time at the resort. The service were good and always with a smile. Transfer by coach all over the resort was efficient and they were so accommodating.
A big thank you to all staff at Mayang Sari Beach Resort!
