“Room guide and recommendations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

Rooms are dated, but they are beginning to renovate. The shuttle bus to the Nirvana Resort (where the swimming pool is) and the activity centre for bowling and shopping and Kelong restaurant runs every 30 minutes. Breakfast quality is not great, but food in evening is good quality (not cheap but not expensive either). During the week occupancy is low so very quiet, whereas the resort is full on friday and saturday, but still relatively quiet compared to the hotel. ferry is full at weekend so one has to book in advance. Some of the rooms are right on the beach and highly recommended. Some of the rooms are set back from the beach and are cheaper and great if your budget is restricted.
See attached resort map for location of rooms and recommendations:
Stingray 1,2,3,4 right on the beach, furthest from reception but closest to beachclub so some noise at weekends (recommended)
Octopus 1,2,3,4 right on the beach (recommended)
Dolphin 1,2,3,4 right on the beach (recommended)
Lobster 2,3,4 beach views
Seahorse 1,2,3,4 beach views and closest to main building so noisier
Bumblebee 1,2,3,4 not classed as sea view but 2 and 3 have seaview. 2 is renovated (recommended)
Blackant 1 partial seaview, 2 partial seaview and renovated, 3 partial seaview, 4 adjacent to housekeeping unit
Ladybug 1-4 not classed as sea view but have partial views
Bonefish 1-4 beachviews but next to restaurant (4 not recommended due to noise)
Seaturtle 1-4 beachviews
Starfish 1-4 right on beach
Butterfly 1-4 no view of the beach
Dragonfly 1-4 no view of beach (not recommended due to noise from the restaurant

Room Tip: See room guide above. Avoid bonefish and dragonfly

I organised a 3D2N stay at the Mayang Sari for a group of 25 pax. Arrived on the island 9:10am and arranged for massage at the Bintan Idol Massage since we are too early for check in. We were picked u from the jetty terminal. Had lunch after massage at Bintan Idol Cafe. Set lunch was good and our group opt to return again on our day of checking out.

Although we arrived at 2pm at Mayang Sari, we were soon given our rooms. Although service was efficient, we were disappointed that the 12 rooms we requested for months before at the Sea-turtle block area was not given to us. Instead we were give chalets spreading all over the resort. The 2 sea-view chalets which we paid extra for, were even more disappointing. Although at the front row, the 2 chalets at Sea-horse block was facing the grass patch outside the reception and not directly to the sea. We requested for a change of chalet and there was only one other sea-view chalet available. Much to our delight, at the Sting-ray, the view was the best and we are only steps away to the sea.
Activities:
We booked courts for badminton at the Nirwana Resort Centre @$8/hr/court and for table tennis game which was inside the bowling area. We all had a game of bowling each, extra game at S$4 a game. The next day, we had lunch at Makan Makan, a food court just next to the bowling alley. Walked out to the back of the block and take the steps down to the Archery and Air-rifle area, you'll be greeted with a beautiful scenic view of the area and the sea from a higher view. I paid for 1 session of Archery @$9 for 25 arrows.
Dinner:
The first evening, Helen the coordinator of the resort, walked us around the Nirwana Resort Hotel main block and suggested the 3 outlets we could have our dinner. We chose the Coffeeshop restaurant. Dinner service was rather slow despite the few customers, but since we are on vacation, we tell ourselves to relax and slow down. We ordered Ala Carte and most had the Satay, Fried Kuay Teow and Nasi Goreng. After dinner, we were pleasantly surprised by the appearance of a band of 5 with guitar, bass and a congo drum. Although Indonesians, they entertained us with Mandarin & Hokkien songs and even a Cantonese "Seong Hoi Tan" ! (Shanghai beach). We were thrilled. They returned after their break and offered us more Spanish songs, delightful!
The 2nd night, we ate at the Kelong restaurant. We had their dinner set and the food and service was also wonderful. The view of the sea at the Kelong was also splendid!
Rooms:
The rooms all looked the same, except for the Queen or Twins beds. Some had ants crawling all over. The housekeeper only came with a can of insecticide but the ants still appear elsewhere. We were extra careful with our opened drinks and snacks. The room was spacious and bed was comfy. If you want the sea-view and do not want to pay for the extra, opt for Bumblebee 2 & 3 and Black Ant 2 & 3. These 4 units are behind and in between the sea-view blocks, so you could also see the sea from your porch, although from a further distance.
Stingray 1 offers the shortest distance to the sea. Best view!
Things to do:
To see the sun-rise. Since the row of chalets face North-West, you'll need to go to an open area facing the East. Wake before 5:30am. Take a stroll to the right of the beach, almost 120M you'll reach the end of this private beach area, walk through the rocks at ankle-deep water, depending on the tide. No worries here, cause the water is crystal clear and you could see the steps you're taking. Take a turn to the right, you'll be greeted with the best sun-rise you can imagine! Make sure you are there by 6am. Those of us that made the effort, were awed! Wade back to the main beach and you can walk out almost 40M towards the sea and the water is still only knee deep. Sink yourself into the beautiful sea water and enjoy! The sand is white and fine.
Since we came as a group, we arranged for morning stretching exercise. We were greeted by a lovely Ms Ratna, who led us for both mornings with aerobics and zumba moves to nice hip hop and up beat songs. By the end of the 20 mins session, we were all sweaty and hungry for breakfast.

Overall, we had an enjoyable time at the resort. The service were good and always with a smile. Transfer by coach all over the resort was efficient and they were so accommodating.
A big thank you to all staff at Mayang Sari Beach Resort!

We were two girlfriends looking for a nice play to stay for a weekend and we were very disappointed for the price we paid.
The hotel is not clean (hairs in the shower, covers not clean when you have diner, diner area very durty), facilities are very poor (one swimming pool only for 3 hotels located in the same complex, few and very old chairs around the swimming pool) and staff does not pay attention to its customers (not enough food for breakfast and diner if you don't come at rush hours). We would not recommend this place if you are a couple nor if you look for something nice and quiet for a rest (pool and diner very noisy with dance music and bands that sing false!).

NirwanaGardens, Management at Nirwana Gardens - Mayang Sari Beach Resort, responded to this review, July 9, 2013
Dear ddpred,

Warm Greetings from Nirwana Gardens and thank you for taking the time to write a review on your recent stay with us at Mayang Sari Beach Resort.

First and foremost, please accept our sincere apologies on our shortfalls during your stay, we were most sorry to read that you had a very unpleasant experience with us. We have taken note of your feedback on the cleanliness of our rooms and dining areas, and agree that this is unacceptable. Rest assured that this feedback will be escalated directly to our Resort Manager and Head of Departments especially Housekeeping, to take immediate action on and ensure that such incidents do not re-occur. We have also noted down your feedback on the insufficiency of food during breakfast and dinner buffets and will highlight this to our Head of Food & Beverage to review.

Mayang Sari Beach Resort is just one of the five properties within Nirwana Gardens, and all our guests are welcome to patron the various dining outlets and recreational facilities available within our Resort grounds. There are 2 swimming pools for our guests to patron, one at Nirwana Resort Hotel and the other at Banyu Biru Villas, both of which are conveniently accesible via our internal shuttle bus. We have noted your comments on the lack of lounge chairs at the pool area, which will be highlighted to our Estate and Sports & Recreation team to review and/or take action on. When our Resort has high occupancy, the lounge chairs are usually quickly taken up on a first-come, first-serve basis, however we will review on this to improve on.

It would be much appreciated if you could specify which dining outlet you had patronized which had loud dance music? Out of our 5 accommodation experiences, Mayang Sari Beach Resort is mostly recommended for holiday goers or couples seeking a reclusive & peaceful getaway right at the beach front, and it is of priority to us to ensure such an experience is not compromised. We apologize for the inconveniences you had experienced during your stay and hope that you would not be deterred from returning again. We would love to have the second opportunity to welcome you back to Nirwana Gardens to serve you better, please feel free to email us at marketing [at] nirwanagardens [dot] com [dot] sg and we would be in touch with you as soonest as possible.

Your feedback is very much appreciated as it helps us in our ongoing efforts to serve our guests better and to ensure our guests have an enjoyable holiday experience with us. Thank you once again for your time, and we hope to hear from you via email soon.

Warm Regards,
Management team

Its just a wonderful relaxing place. The Shuttle services within Nirwana properties is cool, the place is overpriced, but then, its Ok when you see the private beach of this resort. The calmness on the beach with less people.
Adequately equipped Chalets and showers also outside chalets. The staff is extremely service oriented and smiling faces all around!

the spice restaurant is a great treat for pure vegetarians like me. I bet, this must be one of the best veg foods on bintan islands. So, you can enjoy the veg breakfast completely.
they serve mainly indian and indonesian cuisins and was struck when i could hear all bollywood oldies instrumentals music at the restaurant!

I suggest, buy water/ other things from Minimart at Nirwana Beach hotel. (You have a free ride in the shuttle, right!)

lots of activities to do, if you are interested, only thing, you need to plan activities according to the shuttle timings. Time table is available at reception.
did Flying fox, had massage, Spent time at The Pub, did snorkelling tour, kayaking, bowling, + you would like to Relax.. and just do nothings sometimes.. roam aimlessely on beautiful beach.. that's Bintan.

2 nights is the perfect time you can plan your trip for.

Room Tip: Well, its worth spending extra money for Sea view Chalets.. in my opinion, after all, you can let yo...

Spend a long weekend at Mayang Sari and lived the service and the beach. Our beach chalet was one of a few private villas just a few feet away from the beach.

Nirwana has many resorts all close by. Mayang Sari is ideal for couples, offering a romantic and quiet stay with ultimate privacy and seclusion.
We visited the other Nirwana resorts via the hotel shuttle and enjoyed the change, the variety in restaurants and the sports & recreation center.

Only complaint is the place is very pricey but washrooms in the chalet and really old with broken tiles, age old fittings and water stains all over.
Chalets are very large and spacious with a private terrace area.

Very good for a short relaxing getaway. Convenience within reach in 2 hrs by ferry from Tanah Merah Ferry terminal. You can immediately feel at different world once you reach this wonderful sandy beach.

Room Tip: Chalet type of rooms. Chalet next to the sea front is the BEST ; My prefered chalet Octopus or Dolph...

An amazing trip. Room was alittle rundown and old but everything was still working. Cozy spacious room with a tall ceiling. Clean spacious bathroom. The beach was definitely a highlight. Very clean and well maintained. I basically was lulled to sleep by the waves. Food on the otherhand depended on the place. I found the Kelong Restaurant very delightful. Food and service was top notch as was location. Shuttle bus services made the whole resort very convienient to travel around. Not much to do in the resort but awesome for a 2 day getaway from the city. Prices were quite overpriced. I highly recommend the hotel over the main Nirwana Gardens beach resort, the extra price is worth the quietness and tranquility and the top notch service.
