“Beautiful Bintan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

During our shopping spree in Singapore we took a 2 day break to Bintan. We did not know what to expect and what a delight we found. The island is just a 45 min ferry ride away. While the Nirwana is not the flashest resort on Bintan it is paradise. The resort itself is beautiful with different types of accommodation and a free shuttle bus to take you around the resort itself, to the nearby village and to and from the ferry terminal. You have the choice of swimming in the beautiful warm ocean (my preference) or in the stunning pool, with it's swim up bar. It is great for all ages and large enough for everyone to enjoy. There is a choice of 5 restaurants within the resort, all accessible by the shuttle, and food choice to suit even the fussiest eater. Breakfast was outstanding - the international food served was delicious and the coffee is great. The rooms are average and could do with an overhaul but as we only sleep there, it really did not bother us. Plus we thought the price was good value for money. When I travel I do not like to waste a moment but Bintan, you made me sit back, take a breath and relax. All I wanted to do was swim, walk and enjoy the peace and tranquility. We could not believe we were in Indonesia and had a beach to ourselves. It was divine and I was so very sad to leave. This is not cheap like Bali - beers are $7 Singapore , cocktails $10-$15 Singapore, meals about $40 for 2 with drinks - this is all at the resort mind. There is a food hall just down the road and local food is only $5 or $6 - so very cheap and I believe the village is cheap for food as well. But for my money, I would prefer to spend it here in paradise. Did I mention the staff? Everyone was so lovely and friendly and genuinely happy, they made our stay even more pleasant. Apparently there are a few great Golf Courses on Bintan and they have resorts attached to them. I will be taking my husband with me next time and while he goes golfing I will be relaxing on the beach. Can't wait!! There are also lots of activities you can do, water sports, bowling, archery, badminton, basketball - so plenty for the kids, but I think it all costs extra.

Room Tip: I don't really have a tip as it was quiet with not too many guests when we were here. I would pr...

Excellent stay after we got over no bus from ferry and room booking lost. This was soon forgotten and the rest of the stay was brill. Nice room, good restaurants and good Sat night entertainment. Pools and beach meet every need. Some oil found on beach but not very much. Hotel supplied solvent if needed. Overall enjoyed very much

We arrived at 11:30 am at the resort and it was over crowded. They arranged a welcome dance but ppl were so busy finding their luggage and stuff that they didn't even notice it.
There was a big queue at the reception for checkin and we were told that they are cleaning the room and it will take just half n hour . After waiting for an hour we went to checkin again and this time we were told that you can checkin only after 3pm..grrrrr.... not only that...the receptionist gave us an optiin to degrade the room type to checkin early...
We did a week advance booking not to wait for 3 hours at the reception and degrade our room!!
Anyways we decided to have lunch by the time.
After checking in we asked them to bring our luggage to the room. They denied to that too. :-X

They will attract to with their facilities and location which is undoubtedly good but the hotel staff is very rude and the service is awful.

Travelled in group for 3N4D stay in Nirwana, it has manythings to do, right from garden walk, beach games, pool bar, bowling. If you are looking for peace, this is the place. They offered free bus pickup from BRS Terminal. Be carefull before booking your ferry, Nirwana is closer to BRF Terminal and not the other one

Room Tip: Rooms in 1st floor to hop off to pool

What Great: Great Pool, Great Staffs! Room is pretty big...

Staff: Awesome Staff with awesome attitude!

Food: Pretty decent, tried their BBQ Dinner, with entertainment.
Pretty expensive, S$48 per pax.
Do try their Seafood Kelong, worth to go! Nice food...

What must do: Elephant Trekking at S$12 for adult, S$10 for kids. Great Trainers!
Bowling, $4 per game but aircon not strong.
(Do remind the workers to on the aircon.)
Pool/ Billard: $8 per hr

We simply love this resort, fun for the kids! Pretty good food, kids have fun!

Only thing is that it's pretty pricey here!

Booked a Groupon deal for a 2D1N stay at Nirwana Resort Hotel. The superior room was decent enough, not the most fantastic of views but what was apparently shocking was the condition of the bedsheets. Brownish stains and dirty all-round. Requested for a late checkout and all they could offer was an hour later. How can that really be considered a late checkout?

If you are really looking for something to eat, avoid the poolside bar. Flies were constantly making their presence felt around the food. Even when we had moved seats, the flies continue to make it an unpleasant dining experience. Attempted drinking the Bintan coconut juice, not sure if it is supposed to taste sour but I definitely did not like it one bit. Paying 57SGD for that experience and mediocre food certainly left me regretting ever stepping into the poolside bar.

Be sure to take the internal shuttle to the Kelong during dinner time. It is definitely the best meal I have ever had throughout my short stay at Nirwana Resort Hotel.

The highlight of the entire trip has to be the pool. However, I have to admit I was a little disappointed that the water in the jacuzzi by the sides weren't really the least bit warm. The resort centre is where most of the activities were held but it is a 5 mins walk uphill from the hotel's entrance. I had planned to hit the gym but the air-conditioning was not working throughout the entire resort centre and dropped the idea.

One thing that has to be commended was the service of the waiter at Dino bistro. We were looking for some desserts to eat after dinner and had our eyes set on a cheesecake. However, the waiter informed us that it has been kept for hours and not safe to be consumed. We then requested for an ice cream, which he made the effort to collect from the store quite a distance away to serve us. Quite impressive really.

Lastly, be prepared to overspend. A 1.5l bottle of water costs 5SGD, as Singaporeans we probably felt the pinch a little more especially when you could get that exact volume for 1.50SGD back home. I don't think I will ever be returning here again.

First of all, apologies to all as this review is long past overdue. However, I would just like to share with the viewers who may want to know more about the place.

The Pros about the place:
- Lovely place to relax. Nice sandy beach that stretches long and wide.
- Great for the family.
- Offers lots of activities for the children.
- A mini Zoo!

Cons:
- Food is readily available but can be a tad expensive. All currencies in charged in SGD/Rupiah.
- Buffet spread is just average. Really.
- Drive out to have a decent seafood dinner at The Kelong. Expensive.
- Night activities not that great unless you like to spend the night karaoke or just to have drinks. There's a bowling alley too but nothing to shout about.

My suggestion:
- Bring instant noodles by the packets. Hot water is readily available with the in-room kettle.
