“Could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013 via mobile

Stayed 3 nights including new year eve. We had to attend a mandatory nye dinner. Paid over 100 dollar a head. Whilst some pre dinner drinks were included the drinks at dinner were very expensive. Food qualiyy was poor. Entertainment started with the hotel management doing an act and didn't improve.
Rest of stay.
Food at dino's was good. Rest was average.
Staff keen to help and friendly but in general lacked knowledge and a few times we were given wrong information.
I needed to make some business phone calls but hotel system didn't allow calls to local toll free numbers.
Room was meant to have sea view but we were ground floor. The corridor outside room was noisy.

Rooms and facilities are old. Beach has full of dead seaweed. Massage place is not so hygienic (but service here was nice). Concierge was not helpful. Wuld not stay here again...
I had stayed at Bintan Lagoon resort before and found it much better for similar rate...
IF going to bintan, wuld not consider here ever again...or any of its other chains.

Since I've arrived there. I found a big queue to check in. The place looks like it has a life in the past but not anymore. There are a lot of facilities and buildings even the Marina that are future development but the place is old. Forget the pictures of the website about the rooms because they're not like that. There is no any place to go your life will be only inside the boring place. The restaurants are under the average, the prices in Singaporean dollars if you nonsense to change money in Rupia because will be expensive then dollars.
In one sentence I've felt so cheated.

We stayed at the Nirwana Resort Hotel in a Deluxe room. I guess the only difference to the standard room was the sea view. The room definitly required a refurbishment. Fungus in the bathroom and worn out furnitures is not what we expected. You can see that the entire resort was renovated maybe 3-4 years ago and really needs a make over. Food, beach and entire resort feeling was not really ok for the price of EUR 158,- per night and we expected more. Maybe we are wrong by comparing it with prices and experience from Austria, Italy, Spain, US and cruises. Staff were very nice but require a professional education in hospitality..... I believe next time we would fly to Bali or would choose a more exclusive resort.

Rooms and the hotel in general is very tired. Bath re-grouted on one side only??? You get the feeling the hotel is not making money and they are cutting back. The swimming pool and beaches are fantastic, it's such a shame, but the biggest issue is the food. We went to the Spice restaurant and it was a bad experiance. The veg pakoras were just deep fried fried vegtables with some sort of dusted coating, boring & the satay was okay. But the mains, Prwans that were off, how can you sell rotten shellfish? Chicken curry was with the cheap cuts of chicken and the Beef Randan was so dry it was shrivelled due to lack of gravy/sauce. After 2 bites we left the lot and paid. They asked if there was something wrong, couldn't be assed arguing, just paid and left. Other diners were complaining also. A clear sign was that all the dishes took 5 minutes to cook..........Crisps were even rubbish in the shop! Had a toasted cheese sandwich for $7.50 and that was the only decent thing we had. The attitude seems to be fleece the tourists from Singapore with food that is inedible and more expensive than in Singapore. The only posative thing I can say is that the tv has live premiership football in your rooms!

like many other accomodations around, the resort is a self-sufficient stand alone facility where you can eat, sleep, play all day within the hotel grounds. was here over the weekend and found that while the facilities are old, it's still functional and a good place to stay. however:

food - ate at the restaurants and found it to be rather expensive especially given that the food was of mediocre quality. the fresh lime juice looked dodgy with a strange white film over it. Then again, it could also be that i got the short straw since friends seemed to enjoy the food there and had no complaints.

actually, i found most of the activities in the hotel to be rather expensive - especially the sea sports. i'm not entirely convinced if it's affordable per se.

accommodation - i found the beds and rooms to be comfortable and relaxing. had gotten an extra bed for the room and was pleased that they brought in a real single bed instead of bringing a cot as some hotels are wont to do. air conditioning seemed to be running all day since when i got back, the room was freezing. are they eco-friendly? the corridor has thin walls, so if people are walking past and talking in the middle of the night, you'll hear them.

Summary of our 4 day 3 night stay fr 20 Dec 2012:
- clean but old rooms and overall building.
- staff were generally not keen to serve, didn't even acknowledge or look at you when they pass you things. However the ones at the elephant ride were great, very eager to please and take photos for you.
- many of the staff reek of cigarette smoke, and we saw one smoke while on duty.
- beach was full of seaweed and dead corals, stones and tar. Not pleasant on the beach nor in the water.
- mediocre yet expensive food, including the kelong.
- no mosquitoes which was great.
- no need to queue at the activities centre since there's hardly anybody in sight.
- many activities for the kiddies but they come at a cost.
- lovely sea breeze.
- infinity view of pool and sea was very good but there were broken nozzles in the jacuzzi and water was alittle murky.

We were given a really awful Superior room which was musky and had furniture from the time they were first built in the 90s. Superior to what I can't fathom. 2 mins into the room and we asked for a change of room which was met with "we're fully booked". So we upgraded to a deluxe room and had to pay extra S$48 before taxes (10%+11%) per night. It was better but still not great. Breakfast was a yawn. Same food everyday and nothing particularly tasty. Food in general is blah and expensive. Activities too are expensive. Incredible, really. The only saving grace is the pool and the beach. But watch the people around you in the pool - some treat it as their private sink and spit at will. What I don't get is why they keep saying they're fully booked and it's peak monsoon season (huh?) so room prices are up but the resort has been close to dead quiet with the exception of Sunday. Where are all the supposed hotel guests? We see the same few faces at the lobby, along the corridors, at the pool and the activity centre. I think it's a scam. I'm not coming back. The final nail in the coffin is when I could hear all the conversations and children's screams along this corridor at 6.30am. It was like staying in a dormitory. We'd be better off elsewhere for the same price.
