“Needs refurbishment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

The hotel and facilities look tired and worn out and needs serious TLC.Restaurant service and food were average and good have been better presented with the large number of residents using the buffet lunch facilities.
Pool area and recreation area needs a serious amount of money to compete in the local market.
The golf courses are super and worth the travel.
Service standards across all areas need serious looking at with professional management.

Room Tip: Stay at rooms facing the Bay and the suites as these are better appointed

Stayed at the resort over a weekend. Positives include a very good long beach and a good golf course. However the experience was bad on many dimensions. The offerings are very deceptive (sea facing room means a room which opens towards the sea but does not have sea view). They charge for anything and everything they can - even board games are chargeable (and these are not modest charges!). The rooms look much better in pictures than in reality. And finally the service is poor (we asked for empty plates, the room service took 45 mins to deliver, We had to ask 5 staff members whether a dish was vegetarian and so on). Location - it is far from most other resorts and the city. Just to reach the closest city point - you have to rent a taxi from the hotel which costs SGD 35 for 15 min drive. And finally it is huge - 450+ rooms and lots of people which means overcrowded pool, long queues at check in counters and always full restaurants.

Definitely not the perfect weekend getaway if that is what you are looking for.

PS: if you still plan to go, pick a ferry which directly drops at the hotel. Much more convenient

Room Tip: Sea facing rooms do not mean they are sea view rooms!

I think that if you were to pay for your own villa, this has the potential to be a decent weekend option. The villas are nice, the golf courses are very nice, the beaches are nice and there is lots to do. Its very popular with families. The staff are very friendly. The resort has its own ferry terminal which is a bonus and my advice would be to to sit around the pool into about 30mins before the ferry departure and then just walk over to the departure terminal. It's conveniently right across from the pool! We made the mistake of going from the pool, back up to collect our luggage, catching the bus that is 45mins ahead of the boat and then being driven 2mins down the road to the ferry terminal. Immigration took 5mins so we were trapped in an overflowing glass room for 35mins.

The biggest disappointment is that the food is terrible. Breakfast was fine but the rest was downright terrible. I couldn't imagine being forced to eat there for more than a couple of meals. I would bring snacks with you, look into the good thai restaurant that's off the resort and pick up alcohol at duty free before you get on the ferry from Singapore. The bar is also not great. Alcohol is expensive and the drinks are not put together very well. The nightclub is terrible. Some people complained about yellow/brown water and some flooding but the water in my room was fine. The room wasn't awful but I had low expectations. The bed wasn't all that comfortable, the room was relatively dark, the wooden area for massage made the room small and there was no view. There were a few bugs. The building itself looks like it was built in the 1970s and not upgraded since so the overall building could do with a facelift. The fitness facilities and the pools are ok and the massage was so-so. Not great considering it was S$100.

Personally I was more than happy to leave and would not stay there again but it just depends on what you are looking for and as I mentioned, perhaps renting the villa would make this a much better experience.

Besides the fact that there isn't free wifi, there seems to be a food shortage or limited food selection. If you're on a budget it is not an ideal place. Food prices at the restaurant is ranged from S$8 - 40 avg is S$18 for a main course excluding 10% services 10% government tax.

The resort was really nice and the customer service was great. The resort has its own ferry terminal which for us was very convenient considering we are on a weekend vacation only. When we arrived, we were greeted by a traditional dance and a complimentary welcome drinks. The check in time is 3 pm and since we arrived early, we decided to hire a van to eat our lunch and do our groceries outside the resort. After returning, we immediately checked in to our villa. It has three bedrooms, kitchen, living room and a veranda. It was clean and well maintained. We went to the beach and find it relaxing. The sand was very soft although it was not as white as I expected it to be. The beach is very shallow. I was almost a kilometer away but the water is still knee deep. You can do a lot of activities on the beach. You can try jetski, banana boat, kayak, play volleyball and many more. Anyway, we decided to check the pool. The resort has two pools. Both are very beautiful. There is like a carrbean atmosphere with the pool bar, lounge chair, umbrella and palm trees. We really enjoyed swimming in the pool than the beach. After swimming, we went back to our villa to take a shower and change our clothes so we could have our dinner at the restaurant of the resort. There are so many restaurant to choose from and we decided to try the famous one named 'Rice'. The food was good but a little pricey for us. All seats overlooking the beach are all occupied so we had to eat inside. The next day, we had room service for our breakdast. The food was delicious and the servings are big. The staff in this resort are very helpful and accomodating. They always greet you when they pass you by. All in all, our stay here was enjoyable and definitely remarkable.

I had a mixed reaction to this hotel. We had just come from dusty Cairo to Bintan so the change for us was dramatic, on arrival I was pleased by the ambiance and check in, which was efficient considering we were hours early.

The Good:
The room was clean, faced the bay with view of pool and garden, and had a day bed
The massage service, the girls were very skilled. polite and professional
The food in the Grill was excellent
The pool and swim up to bar was nice
Drinks at the cocktail lounge nice at night

The Bad:
No compendium in room
No refill of minibar
The buffet...don't bother
Cancellation of tours, very inconvenient
The COST of food, drinks and everything else was over the top
Lack of information on jellyfish before booking
Felt dead most of the time

Did I find the hotel relaxing...Yes
Would I go again...No

Had been there for 2 nights in the end of May. Rooms were good and spacious. Staff was friendly. Specially Kopi-O staff was nice. It was dream to have Indian Chef Mr. Gulam. Veg. food choice was limited but taste was very very good. Mr. Gulam made out of menu on prior request. Over all good holiday experience. I think any tourist visiting Singapore, must visit Bintan.
