I booked this hotel from Sep 24-27, prepaid. Check-in etc were as expected until i asked them about a room upgrade (was traveling with wife on honeymoon). They said their deluxe rooms and suites are too close to a photo shoot going on the premises near the pool's waterfall area. We might hear some "noise". I told them we will take the Deluxe room and if its something unbearable, we will go to another room. We even paid a huge additional amount for the higher room. Then we went for a walk on the premises and realized we were fooled. The entire premises, including the main pool, the small pool, garden areas etc were covered with plastic, lights, wires and stages for the Kingfisher beer photo shoot. They had shut down their pools for this and we were told we couldn't use these facilities. Pools were all dirty because of the shoot and water being still for many days. Yes...in a 5-star resort, we were told we can't use the pools and garden areas due to a company having a photo shoot. We were never notified about this in advance by the hotel.
When we complained...they refunded our Deluxe room charges. When i told them that we wanted to leave the next day and not stay the full 3 nights since the resort facilities are unusable, they said no refunds will be made. So basically ...we are stuck. My travel agent had also made a mistake ...he booked the room for 1 person instead of 2...so the hotel wanted to charge for the 2nd person extra (also a big amount). Normally, we would have paid that amount. But given the circumstances at the resort, we told the management that either cancel our reservation and we will pay for everything for 1 night...or don't charge us any more money for the 2nd occupant since the resort is unusable as a courtesy. They didn't agree.
I booked another hotel after the first night stay. As i was leaving, the manager comes to ask us to continue our stay and offers 50% discount on the 2nd occupant (my wife) to stay in the room. At this point, the hotel is negotiating anything they can get...it was too late. I left to go to Taj Exotica.
And now let me tell you the difference between an OK So-So hotel (i.e. Zuri) vs. an EXCELLENT hotel (i.e. Taj Excotica). Upon arrival at Taj, we were seated and given free cocktails. When asked if we had a special occasion, i told them we were traveling all over india on honeymoon. They immediately, without asking, upgraded us from a standard room to a villa with a private swimming pool. They brought serenaders to sing for us and took our pictures, and brought my wife a rose and a bouquet of flowers. They delivered more flowers to our room later, then a basket of fruits, and some chocolates even later. I never had my hotel room bell ring this many times from free gifts being showered. And Taj Exotica didn't have to do any of this. They were not having any photo shoot that made their premises unusable, inconveniencing their guests. Whereas, Zuri, who should have done these things to please their upset guests, negotiated how much i can pay extra for my wife to stay in the room with me.
Only good thing about Zuri was that we could go to their private beach which was decent (although various vendors kept coming to us to sell necklaces etc and would not leave us alone). Their restaurant Sake has excellent food, but overpriced...for example, water that costs 45 rupees charged 150 rupees (even Taj Exotica doesn't charge this much for their bottled water). The proper thing for Zuri to do would have been to give me an option to stay without any further extra charges or leave with full refund for unused nights. They did neither and therefore, deserve this review.
Advice to anyone considering Zuri...pay a little more and go to Taj Exotica. You'll thank me.
Seems that this hotel's management will lease their space to any company for any reason to make...

At the outset we wish to sincerely apologize for the incidents which made your brief stay unpleasant. While we did try to make it over to you, it is very unfortunate that you had decided to leave.
However please allow us to say that unfortunately we were not informed that you were traveling on honeymoon, your travel agent has confirmed that the booking was for one person and therefore to charge for the second person, the upgrade to deluxe room was on complimentary basis.
We would like also to assure you that all the services were open as per season and one of our swimming pool was always accessible.
We sincerely hope that despite this accident we will still honored with your return visit to experience what Zuri truly stands for …..Beyond Expectations.
