“Excellent Location, Average Rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

Ciscilia is an Excellent Property bang near the start of Parambikulam Forest Range in Nelliyampathy

Rooms: Rooms are Average type, All are Double Rooms, entrance of these Rooms with wooden doors which look like they are of vintage type. Do not expect more, The location is more than enough to vouch for

Location: Part of Ranimedu Estate which is Run by owner Joe, a very Kind man and offers the Rooms only to Families. Roads are not that good till Ciscilia, roads more look like they need to be negotiated by a 4x4.

Scenary around the Heritage is simply awesome. Perfect for Evening Walks and some short trek beyond the Ciscila Homestay takes you to a summit where you can have complete view of the Parambikulam Forest. Too good and not be missed is morning Sunrise from the Location.

Food: For Non-vegetarians simply awesome. We had Fish Curry and Rice prepared by Vasu, who is cook and caretaker there and it was very tasty.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

We stayed in Ciscillia Heritage for two day in the first week of Aug'2012. The stay was liked by everybody in our group.
I booked a cottage having six rooms in it through internet online money transfer. My initial communication with the owner of the property,Mr.Joe Sunny, was mostly putting off. He was little blunt in dealing with me. Like, when I expressed reservations about transfering the money to his account, he was outright in telling me to forget about staying in Ciscillia. However, after some more interaction, he mellowed down, and started helping me get trasport.
On landing in Nelliampathy, I found that the cottage was beyond my expectation(Mr. Joe had created very negative image of the cottage!).
The rooms were clean with great doors. The toilets were relatively clean. Good sheets were there. The staff were very cooperative. Food was limited in veriety, but was good.
Most importantly the surrounding was fabulous. The property is next wild forest on onside and tea estates on the other. Nelliampathy does not boast of great places of tourist interest. However, there are many trekking opportunities in the property itself. A walk through the tea estate in the morning will get your money's worth.
The property is in an isolated loaction and hence moblie network is poor(Good thing!).

Eventhough, food was good and staff very cooperative, they will do well to improve the quality and variety of food further.

Fantastic place to stay and relax!

Location : The location of this 72 acre resort is very scenic, completely surrounded by endless greenery of valleys and mountains. Trekking around the resort property was itself an awesome experience. The other resorts in Nelliyampathi is located inside that town, while this is about 5km away from the crowded areas.
Rooms : For just Rs. 1000/day, the room is pretty spacious and clean. Would have preferred if the rooms had balcony.
Food : During our stay, we had excellent Kerala veg and non-veg food. It seems they also cook North Indian and other cuisines, we didn't try them.
Weather: Even in peak summer (May-end-2012), the days were pleasant and night was cool, temperature between 20 to 27 degree.

Overall a great experience, its value for money, nature lovers will love it.

We booked this hotel or more correctly, a homestay, by calling up the proprietor directly. He was very helpful and informative about the facilities and the route to take.

The homestay is located a few kilometers away from Nelliyampathy town through very scenic tea plantations. The only drawback and it is a major one is that the road to the homestay is really bad. When we went, due to heavy rains, it had disintegrated into a mud track and there were times when our car actually spun its wheels due to lack of traction.

On reaching, there are basic cottages where one can stay and a dining/recreational area for food. The cottages are sparse but clean. The homestay is on a 70-acre estate so there are a lot of interesting plants and insects to see around. A very nice view point is located at a kilometer from the homestay but its a good uphill climb.

The service is really friendly - Appu the caretaker took efforts in telling us about the places to visit and things to do. The food as in any homestay has that home made touch. Food is usually made to order and the choice is limited by what the cook has available and his/her skills. What we had was extremely tasty with generous portions and reasonable rates.

Ciscilia is definitely a place for people who do not require luxury or trappings of a hotel to enjoy their vacation. Its ideal for people just wanting to have a restful time or for people who plan to spend most of their time out in Nelliyampathy visiting the must-dos. Would definitely be visiting again when the opportunity arises

we went to nelliyampathi without booking a hotel which was stupid - all the ones in our guidebook were booked up and we thought that we were going to have to go straight back down the mountain - a long trip!!!, then someone phoned ciscilia's who had one spare room. This hotel was gorgeous, we were so lucky - it is set in a beautiful area - with monkeys swinging in the trees nearby and while we were there the owner thought he could hear an elephant nearby and had to throw down fire crackers to chase it away. The rooms are kind of cell like with not much in them, very basic beds, no tv, with these amazing doors - some people may not like them but we thought that they were great. The owner's really nice and gave us lots of advice and so are his family + the food is really good and cheap. All in all a 5* experience for us. Nelliyampathi is superb, we felt like we were on an airplane at the viewpoints and did quite a lot of walking around - you dont have to get jeeps everywhere!
