“A warm Sardinian Welcome at the end of October”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

Perfect location set on the hillside above Porto Cervo. Sardinian styled hotel, nicely furnished and decorated in local style, although the breakfast/dining room beside the pool could have been warmer. Excellent value for money for this area of the country. The staff were all extremely friendly and their recommendations for local restaurants were top notch, particularly for the end of season.

Dear Nulux,

we thank you for staying in our hotel for your holidays of October 2012 and for sharing your experience with the travel community of Tripadvisor. Our staff were very pleased to assist you during your stay, and very happy to notice that you appreciated our services and advices, since your opinion is very important for us.

We are sorry for the dinning room, it was not warm only one day in all the season, but we will make sure next year to keep it warm all days at the end of the season.

We look forward to welcome you again in our hotel

Set in the hills just above Porto Cervo, the hotel offers remarkable architecture and fully integrated design furniture. Extremely helpful staff. A restaurant with full English breakfast, and high-quality cuisine lunch and dinner. Altogether a lovely experience of Sardinian hospitality. Great value for money.

We stayed here for 2 nights and paid the upgrade for a panoramic view. Sadly what they dont mention is that your view is there but there are also some pretty huge palm trees blocking some of it so you dont get to see much from your room. Still lovely room, nice facilities and great location. Restaurant food was amazing but you should book as eating outside is not an option due to the sheer volume of wasps that are attracted. Be prepared to wait for a seat inside at breakfast and you will be bombarded with wasps otherwise, it is a real shame as eating breakfast whilst enjoying the view is part of the attraction here.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor looked very dark due to all the foliage around the varander and windows, f...

Dear WhittyKat,

We thank you for staying in our hotel for your holidays and for sharing your opinion here on Tripadvisor. Your opinon and advices are very important for us, to improve our services and to be more motivated to satisfy our guests' needs.
We are sorry that you couldn't appreciate at best the view from your room because of our palms, we always prune their leaves at the beginning of the season, but they grow again at the end; we will make sure next year they won't hide too much the beautiful view there is from the rooms, by making some further cuts during the season.
Thank you for the advice to book the seats for dinner and breakfast, unfortunately our breakfast room indoor is not so huge, this is also why we have a long breakfast time from 7,30 to 10,30 but although we promptly inform all our guests of this time at check-in, we tend to see the breakfast room more crowded in the same times. With a small supplement however, is also available the breakfast in the room.
The wasps caused some troubles specially at the end of the season, we made our bests to keep the problem away from our guests but the phenomenon is not easy to control, probably a small prices to pay for being all between nature. We will make the best, as stated in other reviews, to find some new solutions to keep them away from our breakfast room the next year.

We hope we will have the opportunity to provide you again accomodation in our hotel.

Best regards

We stayed in Hotel Balocco for part of our honeymoon from 28 September - 6 October and had a Junior Suite. Upon arrival, a bottle of prosecco was in the room to welcome us. Our room was very comfortable with a large balcony overlooking the sea and marina. The room was bright, clean and spacious, with a large bathroom and jacuzzi bath. The hotel itself was set out nicely, with a bar overlooking Porto Cervo. The pool and bathing area was nice and relaxing, with a bar service.

The hotel staff were all exceptionally helpful, courteous and friendly - nothing was too much trouble, which made the experience all the better. The staff were all very cheery with smiles for their guests.

The breakfast, served near the pool, was good and the coffees were great! We also ate in the restaurant a couple of evenings during our stay and the food and wine were both very good.

To top off our week, a further bottle of prosecco greeted us one afternoon on my husband's birthday, which the hotel had noted.

Overall, the week was relaxing, peaceful and thoroughly enjoyable.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 300 - a Junior Suite. Large, spacious room with a large balcony looking out to the...

I had a junior suite at the Balocco. What I liked a lot was the chilled-out pool area with nice view to Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and the beautiful pavillon for breakfast. I could walk out the balcony door straigt to the pool - only 20m away.
Inside the room I liked that they had energy saving light bulbs, watersaving showerheads and a digital scale as well as a shaving set.
There's still room for improvements in the following areas:
- hygiene (newer toilet brushes appropriate, soap holder at the bidet should contain soap)
- warmer lighting color in bathroom and much more light (was really dark)
- water saving toilets should be installed
- the WiFi problems at the pool and breakfast pavillon should be fixed (3 people with iPads didn't get on the internet)
- room safe should be fixed (it's not good if there are electrical cables hanging out)
- the robe holder between the rooms should get fixed

Dear DanielNLang,

we thank you for staying in our hotel during your holidays and for sharing your opinion here in Tripadvisor. We are very grateful for your advices and your feedbacks, and we certainly make the improvements that you suggested. Part of these suggestions are already in our improvement plan and will be implemented by the beginning of next season, 29th March 2013. Regarding the lights in the bathroom, as you suggested they are power saving therefore they take some seconds before to be fully enlighted: the bathroom might appear dark if you don't give the lights the proper time to be fully enlighted.

We hope we will have the opportunity to provide you again accomodation in our hotel and we wish you our best regards.

We have given 4 stars as 3.5 is not available and 3 would have been a bit mean! Staying on the west coast for our holiday we wanted to experience the beautiful (and expensive) Costa Smeralda in the north east of the island, so we booked this hotel for just one night. Situated at the top of a steep hill it had fantastic views over Porto Cervo. Pool area was small and intimate but full of charm surrounded by greenery. Sunbeds were padded and comfortable. We chose to have our evening meal at the small panoramic hotel restaurant and whilst we did enjoy the food and the service, we both got eaten alive by mosquitos! Furthermore, mosquitos were replaced by wasps for breakfast! The cold meat and fruit display was full of them, so we did not stay long.

Port Cervo is a lovely but very expensive place, the 2k taxi ride cost us 20€.

Dear Heulwen9,

we thank you for staying in our hotel for your holidays, and for sharing your travel experience with other travellers.

We are very sorry for the troubles you experienced with wasps and mosquitos. Unfortunately this is a particular period and to be all around nature doesn't help neither. We are studying the possible measures to solve the problem, and we hope this won't cause any other trouble to our guests, as we want the breakfast to be a good and relaxing moment.

We hope we will have the opportunity to provide you again accomodation in our hotel, maybe for a longer period than a night, and we are sure you will be more than satisfied by the quality of our service to rate us more than 4/5.

Best regards

We stayed here for our family summer holiday this year (2 adults and 2 teenagers). Sorry to say that the hotel is a bit tired (bedroom furniture could be generously described as "quaint" i.e. old and neglected), the common areas are dirty in places and staff attitude can be described as helpful rather than warm.

Also a bit of an issue with insect infestation in the ground floor rooms - the cleaning staff told us that this was a common problem despite their efforts to keep it under control. We had to spray for mosquitoes every day, while the hotel staff sprayed the ants... even then frequently bitten!

The breakfast was reasonable, the lunch (we ate at the hotel once) was disappointing and there is no restaurant service in the evenings, although the bar service is impeccable.

The pool is fine; good size, clean and set on a terrace with fantastic views across countryside down to the sea... but for some reason using it after 8pm in the evening is banned (hotel manager yelled at us out of the window when we made the mistake of using it on the first evening).

With one or two exceptions, the quality of local restaurants was poor to average. Over-priced and boring menus (e.g. salad starters and 4 pizzas plus a bottle of wine easily more than EUR100). Totally unimpressed.

Best thing about this beautiful part of the world are the beaches. We had the most fantastic time when we were away from the hotel... All in all, fine, but definitely over-priced and in need of serious investment to bring the hotel up to international standards.

Dear JamJul,

we thank you for staying in our hotel for your holidays of August 2012 and for sharing your travel experience with the Tripadvisor community. We are very sorry to read that your overall stay was below your expectations, and definitely not in accordance to what Hotel Balocco and his staff is capable to offer (and usually does) to our guests, quality for which we are well known on most of the traveller reviews, here in Tripadvisor and elsewhere. We will certainly consider your critics and advices to improve our product and services, for this we are grateful to you. We take the chance to point out some details:

The hotel building is not new although it was renowated few years ago, and constantly revised in details. We will certainly consider the parts which may look old and in need of restructuring, at the end of this season and do the necessary works to keep the structure at his best appearence.

We respect your opinion in regards of the cleanliness and the attitude of our staff, however, the good cleanliness and staff attitudes are the qualities for which we can be well pride, and most of the times highlighted by our hotel guests, in Tripadvisor, paper questionaries, word of mouth and so on.

We are very sorry about the ants in the room and some parts of ground floor, this year was very unusual on this aspect and although we ran disinfestation programs at the opening and during the season, the phenomenon went out of control. Is true also that we are surrounded by nature so the phenomenon could occur, we will be prepared for the next opening and do all the necessary to make sure these sorts of problems won't cause irritation to our guests during their stay.

We are sorry you did not like our restaurant's cuisine and also our neighbour restaurants' cuisine, apparently the italian cuisine is not of your taste. Next time you might ask our reception for different menus, nearby our hotel there is also a very good brazilian churrascaria, and not too far also sushi and fusion cuisine restaurants are available. Our staff will be very glad to assist you on this.

Our swimming pool is open only during the day, for safety reason. We are sorry this caused a trouble for you.

To conclude our reply of your review, we will consider your precious opinion and advices to improve the quality of our product and services, since this is our mission and for us is really important that all our guests have a good stay in our hotel and also in Costa Smeralda. We hope we will have the opportunity to provide you accomodation again in our hotel, certain that we will solve the problems from you listed (for example we already opened the restaurant for dinner and don't have again ants problem) and that you will have a fantastic stay with your family here in our hotel. We invite you therefore to contact us directly in a way that we can find the most suitable accomodation for you, if you book now your stay for 2013 you would also find the lowest available rates.

Best regards
