“Coastal break in unusual town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

I can add nothing to previous reviews - others have said it all! Hosts are extremely welcoming, house beautiful, breakfasts great. We stayed in 2 different rooms - both were equally comfortable but they upgraded us at no extra cost as the bigger room happened to be available, which was typical of the excellent couple who run the place. We never used the garden with its great views over the harbour because we were too busy sightseeing.
The town of Appledore is untouristy with no amusement arcades or tourist tac but with enough good facilities to enrich your stay. There are 2 nice delicatessens on the harbour side and a couple of friendly pubs. Nice coastal walks from the town but a must-see is the superb scenery at Hartland Quay - it is breathtaking. Enough said. Don't stay anywhere else if you visit Appledore. We intend to return before too long.

Cannot fault in any way, the owners work very hard to make it so. Great views from room making the walk up the hill even more worth it. We had a great week in the area and Appledore House always offered a warm and comfortable welcome at the end of a good day..

Room Tip: We stayed in the Gold Room which was excellent. We did see all the other rooms and the very high q...

This really is a great place to stay. Situated at the top of the hill (but very walkable) it had a fabulous view over the estuary, both from our room (No 1) and from the breakfast room - we had to wear sunglasses to eat, it was so bright and airy.
It was spotlessly clean, and very nicely decorated, with little extra touches (robe, toiletries etc) that make all the difference. Two large comfy beds (I think they were 3/4 or queens) and a spacious bathroom with bath and rain-type shower.
Mark and Gina couldn't have been more helpful and made restaurant reservations for us when we were having difficulties.
Appledore itself is a lovely small town which always seemed to have live, local music emanating from the pubs, and everyone was very friendly giving us some great recommendations for places to see and enjoy.
..and don't miss the locally-made ice creams sold from a van on the quay - delicious!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view across the estuary - it really was fantastic. I could have sat in the win...

We stayed at Appledore House for 3 days in July during the lovely hot & sunny weather, what a lovely time we had, the owners Gina & Mark were so welcoming & nothing was too much trouble,They gave lot's of tips & advice of local places to visit & places to eat. We stayed in room 1 with a wonderful view over the estuary, The room was beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean & beds so comfortable it was difficult to leave them, although the thought of the delicious breakfast was enough to drag me out ! There is a pretty garden & terrace which was lovely to sit & enjoy the beautiful view. Appledore is such a pretty little village so unspoiled, a stroll down Meeting Street brings you to the harbour area where you will find a good choice of places to eat, we ate at The Royal Plaice for the best fish & chips I have ever had, The Coach & Horses for wonderful smoked ribs and on our last night at Bensons for a special seafood dinner, all proved to be excellent choices. So thanks Gina & Mark for a wonderful relaxing stay, we highly recommend a stay at Appledore House.

Room Tip: Room 1 has a wonderful dual aspect view over the estuary.

Quite the best B&B we have ever stayed in - and we have stayed in quite a few! So welcoming-superbly equipped rooms with a view over the estuary if you remember to ask for a room with a view. It is worth doing that. We stayed for two nights as we had things to do, but we would happily go back for another go. Great location in a fascinating spot with hosts and helpers that are truly friendly. Five Star plus......................

My partner and I stayed 1 night at this wonderful B&B but wished we could have stayed longer. On arrival received free upgrade to the Gold Room with a lovely view of the sea, the room was delightful very clean and decorated and furnished to a high standard. Gina greeted us on arrival and made us feel very welcome with a tray of tea and biscuits. After a very comfortable nights sleep we enjoyed a lovely breakfast cooked by Mark which set us up for the day.

The B&B is well situated within the Village of Appledore with a choice of pubs/bars and eateries, the Chippy is great but so is the Seagate Inn for both food and ale.

We will definitely be returning for a longer stay in the future.

We would certainly recommend Appledore house as a place to stay when visiting Appledore in North Devon.
The accommodation is spacious, well equipped and very well presented. The owners run and manage the accommodation in person, are approachable and keen to provide good service.
The property looks down over the village, the quay and the Taw, Torridge, estuary.
The rooms are large, very clean, and fitted out to a good quality, to the point where it exceeds the standard normally found in B+B accommodation.
We have stayed several times and would be very happy to book again.
The one and only qualifier is that the car parking is compact so if you wish to come and go it is probably better to park other than on site, that said car parking is available closed at hand, either roadside, space permitting, or in a local authority paid car park. This is nearby, and readily accessible therefore not a problem at all.
We thoroughly recommend Appledore House as an excellent choice of places to stay when visiting North Devon.
