“What a beautiful Place!!! by Derek & Jane”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

Just had my 1st holiday on Zakythos and stayed at Alykes Garden Village. Lovely setting in a Zakynthian farmland valley backed by mountains. Beautifully kept and run by lovely friendly people. If you like peace and quiet away from the hub of resort life, then this is the place for you. Rooms are excellent, clean and regularly maintained. Lovely Pool, snack bar and evening bar, every thing you need for a comfortable holiday. Okay, it's 10-15minutes stroll to the beach and resort centre, but a very pleasant one if you take it 'Geek Style,' ie slowly, slowly.
Greece is great this year! Never mind the media hype of the troubles in Athens, it's NOT like that on the Islands! It's Safe, Good Value, and Friendly. So it's not "Grease is the Word", it's "GREECE IS THE PLACE!" for your holidays, so get yourself over there!

Our family and friends made up a wedding party of 29 .
The various apartments on site are owned by members of a family group.
We found them all ultra helpful and very friendly. Thank you - Jimmy Shula. Katerina. George and Grandma Christina,
We had the evening function at the smaller pool which was very nicely decorated. This was the first time a wedding was held here and it was ideal..
The complex site is really ideal for those wanting peace and quiet.
It's a good 10-15 walk to Alykes Resort , lovely beach and very good Restaurants , crystal clear sea , shallow for 30- 40 yards made for safe swimming.
Katastari Village is a 10 Minute walk away and has mini market , Bakers and one or two nice Taverna's
Our room while basic ,was fine once we got used to not flooding the bathroom while showering.
The Bar Restaurant served nice food , with the Best Pizza's I have had.
Go to Zante Town on the Bus, we loved it
Given the rubbish weather here it's a no brainer, we are coming back in August

Room Tip: Ground floor best in Oscar and Theo apartments

This Hotel was lovely. Very clean reasonably sized rooms. The owners were very friendly and very accommodating. We didn't each must at the hotel but what we did eat was very nice and fresh. Pool and bar area was very clean and was very quiet when we were there(early may). The village was lovely and quiet just what we were looking for. Everyone very friendly. We went to the Iris bar pretty much every nice which was just down and was fantastic. We ate regularly at Fidelios restaurant which served delicious local food. We would definitely go again as it was such great value for money!

On arrival at the hotel after a 13 hour delay the owner and her family were very accommodating. We requested a room with a pool view and were not disappointed; the accommodation is as portrayed in the images on the hotel website, clean and well maintained. Rooms are cleaned daily with a towel and bedding change regularly. LIft to all floors, safe in rooms (20 Euro) and a colour TV to catch up with sky news in each room.Didn't need air conditioning but i presume as the season gets into full swing this will be a must.
The complex is owned and run by the extended family and all are hospitable, speaking very good English and are on hand to answer any questions. Bed and breakfast is a must, full English every morning at the pool bar which opens at 09.00. Meals and snacks made on request and very reasonably priced, no idea why anyone wants to self cater! Safe surroundings, for two mature women travellers.
The main pool area, although next to the road was very appealing albeit the water a tad cold for us (early in the season). The second pool was smaller, perfect for children as the depth was consistent. Main bar stays open into early hours, nice for a nightcap after walking back from town.
The town a ten minute walk is very quaint with an array of restaurants and a few good bars, very little shopping here! We travelled into Zante on public transport; take care on timings the main shopping area closes for a siesta, last bus back is 16.45 and a taxi is around 25 euro. Alykes beach itself has golden sands with a selection of bars and restaurants to cater for all tastes we tried just about everyone never to be disappointed, excellent value for money around 23 Euros for 2 courses including a carafe of wine.
A must! never to be missed the half day cruise to the shipwreck beach. We have travelled the world and can’t believe such places are available within a 3 hour flight. With crystal clear water, diving off the speedboat and swimming in the blue caves. Turtle cruise, amasing, we did actually see the largest turtle ever.
We will be back. Zakynthos may have a reputation for 18-30 but this resort is perfect for a family or romantic break, step back and relax.
Tips:
When you visit Turtle beach their is a mobile snack bar (small boat) no one told us, cold beers on arrival.Perfect.
Need flip flps on shipwreck beach as sand is shell like and can hurt under foot, take a picnic.
Book a sunbed on the beach with Jimmy and you can leave your towels overnight to arrive to a hot spot with waiter service.
No need for a torch the street lights stay on all night long.

Room Tip: Corner rooms appear to have more than one balcony Higher floors have an excellent mountain view

Just got back from Garden Village and had to get on Tripadvisor to let people know this is the best Apartments we have stayed at in Alykes. The family Jimmy, Soula & mum Kris are all so friendly and do everything to make your stay as friendly and enjoyable possible.
The snack bar is great and Kris's homemade pizzas , garlic bread etc are lovely. We met a lot of people there who have been going back there for years and can fully understand this as we will try and get back there this year. Thanks all for such a lovely welcome and stay and hope to see you very soon. Dave & Jo x

Room Tip: All rooms look good and clean we stayed in Sellini Apartments

Me and my partner his sister and husband all went for the week and all we have to say is what a great place to stay. Jimmy was the most helpful person, he really does care for his guests. The food was delicious and prices were reasonable and staying here is only a 10-15min walk form your own beach which is always a bonus. Really loved staying here and will definitely be returning in the future.

Staying at the Alykes Garden Village will set the tone for your whole holiday in Zakynthos- you are warmly welcomed, and treated like a family member by all. We can't recommend this place enough, and I think we will be returning each year as often as we can!
The location is excellent. Some people may feel its a bit too far to the beach (it's a pleasant 10 minute walk) but we enjoyed being so close to the lovely village of Katastari, which is well worth a visit. And we would recommend hiring a car while your there anyway, since many of the islands most memorable spots are off the beaten track. We used Cosmos rentals. They were very good value, and really friendly.
The accommodation is basic, but adequate. The small kitchenette had everything we needed to make a nice breakfast and lunch. It was very clean, and we never had any cause for complaint.
The pool area is lovely. Since we arrived at the very beginning of the season it was very peaceful, and the pool itself is very clean.
The really special thing about the Garden Village is the family who run it. Jimmy, Soula, Kris and family were fantastic the whole week. They are very friendly and would go out of their way to help you with anything.
Alykes itself is a lovely resort with a beautiful beach. We didn't have a bad meal the whole week, but special mention must be given to the Relax taverna. The brothers who own it were so lovely. On our last night they even gave me a carafe which I had wanted, and one brother filled bottles of his own wine for us to take home. This is typical of everyone on the island. We have never met such warm and friendly people.
It was such a lovely week, and we can't wait to return to the Alykes Garden Village.

Room Tip: Not sure if any rooms are better to deal with the dreaded cockerels. Its a small Zakynthian village...
