“val d'orcia stunner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

Nothing to do but echo everyone else's reviews -- the warm welcome, perfect view, beautiful rooms in the casa, everything clean and well-maintained. Touring around southern tuscany is a completely different experience of italy, nothing like going to Florence or Rome -- the bustle is completely absent. The Moriccianis showed us so much of the surrounding area, made great restaurant recs, supplied us with a beatufiul basket of cured meats and cheeses, wine and oil from their farm. The vegetable garden at their nearby agriturismo was availble to us, so we actually did a lot of self-catering -- well-stocked kitchen -- eating dinner on the terrace, overlooking a stunning valley view. Incomparable.

Dear Kyra,

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to write such a beautiful review. We are so happy that you found the peace and serenity you were looking for, and also enjoyed our family farm and special activities. Thanks also for mentioning the Locherber body/beauty/home products that are made by my family made only in Switzerland and Italy, and it is nice to know you found them to be good for your skin. :-)

We wish a wonderful life and marriage to you and your husband, and hope that one day we will see you again!

With many thanks and warm wishes,
Isabella and Carlo

I can only echo the views shared by other reviewers that Casa Moricciani offers a very high level of accommodation and service. In particular the quality of the property and it's amenities, the care shown by Carlo, Isabella and others, and the high level of cleanliness are equal to the highest standard that I have experienced in travel globally. We look forward to staying there again in the future.

A perfect travel experience is one in which I come away with new insights, new friends, and an understanding of a place and its people as never before. In my many years of travel the two weeks we spent at Casa Moricciani were the epitome of all I love about travel. The villa is stunning, but the hospitality and true caring of Isabella, Carlo and the entire family opened my eyes to the soul of Tuscany, Perfection.

Dear Zari,

You have given us the highest compliment possible by saying your stay with us was "a perfect travel experience". That is truly our goal--to help our guests return home from their time in Tuscany with a sense of having felt a connection with its people, its traditions, and its culture. We know ourselves, from our own travels, that this is what makes the memories of a stay so lasting and meaningful.

We thank you for coming to be with us for two wonderful weeks--you are now friends with whom we hope so much to see again one day.

With deepest appreciation,
Isabella and Carlo

The Val D'Orcia area in Tuscany is beautiful, but this little spot is nothing short of heaven. We have travelled extensively and this is by far the most wonderful vacation we have ever experienced. Isabella, Carlo and their family made this such a warm and welcoming adventure. Our "Dolce Vita" stay was just perfect. Castelmuzio is a beautiful tiny hilltop town, easily accessible by car to Siena, Pienza, Montalcino, Montepulciano. The "options" that Isabella provided to us allowed us to participate in activities and explore these areas in a way that we would not have otherwise had the opportunity - cheese tastings, cooking classes, biking, wine tasting and more were all arranged for us and all we had to do was enjoy! We will remember most our pici night at Cretaiole - the people, the laughter, the food, wine and dancing was amazing. We vow to return!

Carlo and I were thrilled to be able to help you and your friends celebrate your 25th wedding anniversaries! Thank you for writing your review and letting us know that you are pleased with your stay in Tuscany. The four of you were so much fun and the other guests, as well as our family, were so happy to have gotten to know you. I hope you have made some lasting friendships that will always remind you of your special anniversary time in the Val d'Orcia.

We look forward to seeing you again, and until then, we send our warmest hugs to all of you!!

Staying at any of the properties owned by the Moricciani family is one of the best travel experiences we have had in Europe ...and we have travelled extensively. We agree with the traveller who wrote that it is tempting not to write a review because we're inclined to keep Casa Morcianni a secret but this family and the breathtaking countryside they live in deserve to be known. It is true what is said, "...you will arrive as guests, be treated as friends, and leave as family!"

There are many things we could comment on but we will focus on a few that truly are unique:
- Isabella's 'binders' and the work she has put into them to ensure that everything you need to know or could want to know to make your trip memorable is at your fingertips. Add to that the extensive list of options you are presented with upon your arrival - not to mention the fruit, veg and other delectables - and staying at Casa Moricciani is like having your own private concierge! Every activity or restaurant that she directed us to was magnificent.
- Through the various activities, we sampled fabulous wines, ate heavenly food, and met fascinating people whose knowledge and passion immersed us in the fabric of Val d'Orcia!
- The design and decor of the apartments and the gardens is like something out of Architectural Digest...and its incredibly clean. The view from the garden, and from most of the windows, reminds you why so many feel compelled to paint this landscape...wondrous!

I've traveled to Italy many times, been to many fabulous amazing and beautiful spots. Simply my favorite travel destination. Casa Moricciani was the most perfect place I have ever stayed.
The villa is the perfect combination of classic and modern Italian. All the upgrades are exactly what you would hope. Every detail is thought through. Isabella, Carlo, Carlotta and the family offer such a fantastic array of adventures and eating, though you could just as easily stay at the Villa, and have Carlo deliver the morning pastries and spend the day lost in the view. It's the most charming wonderful relaxing place. GO!!!

Room Tip: Each room is a gem..can't go wrong.

Ciao Roberta,

We are really happy to know that you enjoyed the villa, the details that we have put there, and that you like the combination of "classic and modern Italian"--because that is exactly what we have tried to achieve. We wanted the "feel" of classic Tuscan decor--and specifically an elegance that invites you to be comfortable and "to be at home"--but with modern technology in its systems (lighting, appliances, water system, sound, Internet). All of the modern things should really almost be "silent" in order that they allow the Tuscan experience to be primary: the beauty, the view, the cuisine, the wine, the slow pace, the people.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your review. We appreciate your stay, and your review more than we can express.

Grazie mille,
Isabella and Carlo

I stayed at Casa Moricciani in the summer of 2012 for about a week and I can only describe the experience as AMAZING to the degree that I contemplated not writing this public review so that the place can remain a secret heaven for me and my husband (I know, it's selfish...).

I traveled with my husband and two other friends and rented the whole ground floor of the villa which had two gorgeous rooms and a beautiful garden with a magnificent and unobstructed view of the Val D'Orcia. Coming from Hong Kong where we live surrounded by tall buildings and busy streets, just the view alone made me almost tear up with joy!

Now the inside of the villa - all my friends travelled extensively across the globe and had stayed at numerous 5 star hotels and villas, but Casa Moricciani is no doubt among the best of the best. Every piece of furniture, decorative items, art pieces were so thoughtfully put-together. It was not only pleasing to the eye but also super functional and practical. The place had the charm of a country side villa with all the modern comfort you'd expect from a top hotel in a big city. So much attention to the detail, even to their toiletries (organic lotions from Swiss!). Last but not least, they also provide services that's really unexpected and makes you smile (like free laundry which comes back clean and all folded up in a pretty basket!)

What really made Casa Moricciani so amazing was the owners, Carlo and Isabella. Basically once you arrive there, you don't have to worry about what to see, where to eat, and what to do. First of all, there was a book of restaurant reviews and possible itineraries of what to do (from 1 day to several-day excursions) written by Isabella personally. And Isabella will gladly make reservations for you and also help you decide what to do. Thanks to her we could attend music concerts that only the locals know about and so on. The dinner at the monastery where they shot English Patient was super nice and quaint, and also the early morning walk around the neighborhood was memorable.

We also signed up for La Dolce Vita package and it was so worth it. First of all, you get so much goodies (homemade hams, cheese, wine, bread, fruits) upon your arrival. Making Pasta and eating dinner together with Carlo/Isabella's family was very rewarding and fun (the ragu Isabella made was to die for!). You get a taste of how people in Tuscany live by learning about wine making and olive oil tasting as well.

We mainly stayed within Val D'Orcia area (checked out the small towns and did wine tasting) and that is what I'd recommend everyone to do. We did venture out to Sienna and Florence (each within 1 to 2 hour drive), but in the summer the big cities were way too crowded.

To conclude, my husband and I still dream about Casa Moricciani and Castelmuzio, and we are sure we will be back in the near future. We'd strongly recommend it to everyone!!! And huge thanks to Isabella and Carlo for being such wonderful host.

Dear Yogurt :-)

We will never forget you and your group of beautiful friends. I remember the week in early August--which was such a gorgeous week--full of classical music concerts in the area, great weather, and beautiful evenings for dining in the garden. A fantastic time to come to Tuscany. We are so happy that you found it to be a good choice.

Your advice to travelers to stay in the Val d'Orcia area (the greater area) is something I often tell to guests. There is so much here to be enjoyed--and so easy to do.

Thank you for writing such a comprehensive and beautiful review. It is such a gift to us, and we appreciate it more than we can say.

With warmest appreciation,
Isabella and Carlo
