Hotel lays between the amazing green volcano and the blue Pacific ocean in front the house. The warm and crystal clear Kuroshiro Current provides a pleasant climate. The road along the coast passes just in front of the hotel, and it is full of breathtaking outlooks. It's also absolute worth it to climb up the mountain behind the house. Simply wonderful.
How to get there from the airport:
A rent a car is a must because the hotel is a bit remote from the village, and you will get bored soon at the hotel. But the island is too beautiful to stay in the hotel anyway. Roads are wide and well maintained, maximum speed is just 40 kph!
In off season you can rent a "kei" type four seater for a mere 2000 Yen a day if you book in time via internet. It's worth it.
What to do at the hotel:
Just in front of the hotel are some very beautiful cliffs, but else there is not too much to do there. Pool and tennis court are closed. There is a not very spectacular Japanese style spa, but it was closed most of the day.
There is only one restaurant open. The food is not overwhelming, but eatable. The atmosphere reminded much on our company's canteen. Bring your own drinks for the mini bar, because there is not much to buy there.
The hotel has been build around 40 years ago, and apparently there was no renewal for many, many years. Rust, paint peeling off, holes in the wall, leaking air conditioners, detached carpet... One detached hotel wing has been fully shut down. Same is for the cliff restaurant. The hotel building is in an absolute desolate state. There are also severe security issues, like damaged guard rails where children could drop nearly 3 meters just straight down the wall. The room itself and the restaurant made a clean impression, which I can not say about the rest of the house.
Note for families with small kids and disabled persons:
Barrier free is a concept that was surely not in the mind of the builder. You can not use this hotel if you have issues to carry luggage, strollers etc. to the third floor, since there are no elevators, ramps etc. And there is no staff to support you bringing all your things up the stairs.
