The reservations were booked by a co-worker who highly recommended this hotel. As it was my first trip to Ireland I was excited and the pictures looked charming. Obviously in the middle of renovations, my excitement was still not dimmed. My first clue all was not well was when I was told they could not get the machine to accept american express and I would need to use another card! I don't fancy putting business trips on my personal card but so be it.
The room was dated but clean and as the bathroom was large, I was happy. Until I foundout there was no internet access available anywhere in the hotel. Which makes working a bit difficult to say the least. Ever positive I set out to look for a place to get a cup of coffee and some euros. I was pointed in a vague way down the street. I set off and realzied the hotel is in the middle of nothing. I don't mind walking but it is a good bit to get to a cafe and supermarket of sorts. The staff at hotel was friendly and so, I was resigned to not getting any work done unless I was in our office in Galway. The hotel was loud and frantic with several youth groups but, hey, if I was in a youth group visiting Ireland for the first time, I would be loud too! No complaining from me although walls were very thin. Which leads to my major complaint.-I had finally adjusted to the overseas flight and was soundly sleeping. At approximately 2am I heard a huge pounding on my door and then a an angry gent dressed all in black was standing in my room telling me to turn my television down. I totally freaked as you could well imagine! I screamed at him to get out of my room and pulled the balnket up around me and continued to demand that he leave. I was shaking and asked why in the H&&# did he not call me to tell me to turn it down?! This was totally unacceptable to me. It has never happened and should never happen. This guy topped 6' and over 200 lbs...me, a female alone in my room. WRONG! I could not get back to sleep and called down to the desk and he answered. He proceeded to tell me it was my fault and to quit worrying since he answered the phone that he obviously worked for the hotel and I had nothing to worry about! What a crazy situation! When I checked out the next morning I told the staff on duty who acted appropriately horrified and apologized. But that was it. I would have left regardless even if it was not my scheduled departure date. Next trip I w ill go to Jury's - located in the heart of Galway and the shops. I am still in shock over this whole deal...and despite taking my number...no manager has called to apologize.
