“Wonderful way to relax”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2012

We booked four nights as a special treat for our 30th Wedd Anniversary and had a fantastic stay. We indulged in multiple spa treatments (with professional and friendly staff) and thoroughly enjoyed our suite with spa bath on the deck (nightly activity)and exceptional views. The peace and quiet allowed a very calm and relaxing time with easy access by car to lunch at local eateries and to visit the many art studios. The restaurant staff were attentive and remembered my dietary needs each visit for breakfast although it was disappointing that the restaurant was only open one night for dinner as the chef had sustained an accident. Everything we needed for a romantic and beautiful celebration was found at this delightful resort. High recommended.

Room Tip: Suites allow total privacy and independence if required.

This was a nice hotel, good pool etc but whilst the lodge was spacious and had ncie views from the balcony it was rather dated. Neither my husband nor I are vegetarian and we didn't realise it was a vegetarian-only restaurant. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant on our first night there - the food was nice but significantly over-priced for a vegetarian buffet with dry crepes as the only dessert choice. It's a short walk (about 15 minutes) to a couple of alternative restaurants on the beach front which have more to offer at a better price.

We drove to this resort in the pouring rain to see if they had availability on their day spa package deal & whether they could accommodate further treatments as we wanted to book things for the following day. We parked in a bay near reception. Reception said they didn't know what we meant by day spa & told us the price of using the pool. We said we wanted to book treatments & were eventually given a brochure. They said they couldn't find the day spa pakage deal we referred to & asked could we show them where it was. We said we could if we could access their wifi but were told 'no' as a ticket was needed for that. We showed them their website & explained it was in their 'specials' section. They disappeared into a back office & gave us a chit to find the web details. A minute later the woman snatched it & said they found it. A lady arrived in reception to ask where to park as someone was in her bay. We apologised & said it was probably us & we'd move straight away. At this, the woman in reception started berating us about this being the 2nd time today someone had parked in that spot & emphasized the point by knocking on the counter. We said it was a mistake & we'd move & the guest said she was happy to wait but the chastisement continued in an unreasonable, unexpected & frankly staggeringly unpleasant experience. The guest aoologised to us!!! It seemed she thought she was to blame We decided this wasn't the sort of place we were likely to find the service & tranquility suggested in the brochure so left & are off to spend our $750 in Nelson tomorrow.

It was quite a strange experience staying at the Kimi Ora. I'm not sure how anyone could advertise this as an upscale resort/spa. I suspect the cabin we stayed in hadn't been updated since being built. The decor/linens were old. The shower in our cabin was a cheap plastic enclosure so small that it was hard to move around in.
I was so happy when we checked out, couldn't wait to leave. Worst place we stayed on the south island of New Zealand.

As a get away you can't get further away. We stayed at the beginning of spring so it was a little quiet but we had full access to the facilities once staff arrived (no one was there to meet us for the first night). Once accessible there are a range of facilities, and although dated the fitness trail provided a warm up for a run to the beach where there are some great eateries - although again these were closed whilst we were there - recommend the Thai (chokdee) Restaurant in Motueka

Kimi Ora was such a peaceful accommodation, secluded from roads and the busy beach. It is set in a fantastic location, with a beautiful walk down to the beach. It was a perfect weekend away from the city and I would be very happy to return. The only thing that could have been better was if someone was there to greet us properly and show us to our room. Other than that it was perfect! Great spa and facilities.

Me and my partner went in Winter time so it was very quiet, to be honest I had read other reviews and doubted how good it would be. It was very quiet as it was is Winter time however I liked this as there was no other guests. It said on the website that the pool and spa would not be open however at night we took a walk around the resort and discovered it to be open, spa pool and all!! It was perfect whole place to ourselves and sauna spa were in really good condition. Service was strange as there appeared to be no receptionist only an envelope with our key, later that night we got a call from the manager I believe, making sure we had settled in ok, room was clean and had amazing views!!! ( Restaurant was not open in winter season)
