“Not bad, but....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

...This structure need a urgent, quick renovation. However, staff is very polite and bathrooms are quite clean. But that's all. Without airco and fridgebar in the rooms cannot be a 4* sorry...............

No thrills hotel, in need of an update and freshen-up. Staff good and helpful, no food on a Sunday but they will order delivery for you from the local town. Breakfast is good and the hotel situation is ideal for the nearby towns and business.

Nice enough hotel but just stayed there last week when the temperature was +30oC and it was torturous. The room did not have air con. I had stayed on business before in the winter and chose to stay again as a good value hotel. However would not book in the Summer while I am on business.

I live nearby the sauna, I don't use the hotel.

The sauna is very nice , clean and is all nude.

It has several sauna's and very good food. There are 4 sauna's, a relatively big swimming pool, a whirlpool and some cold and warm baths. Several relaxing rooms are available.

Definitely worth the visit

We like to have sauna etcetera, and not have to leave, it was clean, and breakfast was nice, close to the motorway ! Not bad, defenetly not 4 star, but 3 verry friendly personal. We booked this with vakantieveilingen so had it cheap. The sauna part is smaller than other big complexes in Belgium, but there is a good restaurant, and everything is there. For a day time relaxing it is oke, but you definitely do not want to stay there for the welness only :-) better also do a bit of shopping.

Evaluation of overnight stay¹
Date : 15/03/201 – 17/03/2013
Location : Hotel-Thermen Amrâth Born Sittard
Room number : 229
Price : 198 €/2 persons – arrangement 2 nights + breakfast + entry to Thermen.

Summary : score : 2/5 (not considering the Thermen)
Outdated infrastructure (built in 19.., they have removed the digits from the panel, best guess : 1970’s), which never can be rated 4 stars (european rating)¹, at best 2 stars, and then still only based on the served food in the restaurant and breakfast. The hotel is located near the highway and industrial area. The hotel is mainly focussed on overnight stay of visitors for the Thermen people, but the difference in rating is huge between the hotel and the Thermen. The price/quality ratio is on the expensive side seen the out-dated infrastructure.
This hotel absolutely needs a renovation of its basic infrastructure.

Details :

Environment : score : 2/5
• Located 6 km from center of Sittard.
• Stand-alone, close to highway, in industrial area :
• No resto and bars around.
• Public transport limited. Car or taxi is mandatory for transportation.
• Very well reachable by car.

Outside : score : 3/5
• Outside of the hotel is clean, but plants are not well taken care of.
• When arriving by car, entrance to hotel is self-explanatory.
• No taxi parking is noticed. No taxi is waiting in front of hotel.
• Hotel does not give an inviting impression, and has an out-dated look.
• Before reaching the hotel entrance, a lever, opening automatically, indicates the parking.

Reception : score : 3/5
• Service :
o Very friendly (eg. : we indicated that a parcel would arrive. This parcel was brought to us at our dinner table).
o Professional.
• Explanations :
o Received the key to our room, with clear indications how to reach it.
o No explanations of surrounding activities or nearby city visit.
o Way to the room was via the stairs, no indication on available elevators (we later found out why… see further).
• Speed : No needless waiting time. Quickly served at all times.

Parking : score : 3/5
• Located next to the hotel.
• Free of charge.
• Closed off by lever, for leaving, reception has to be consulted.
• Parking was clean.
• Parking spots are sufficiently big to park normal European family car.
• Lots of parking spots are taken by Thermen visitors.
• Entrance from parking to hotel is accessible without problems for disabled people.

Elevators : score : 0/5
• 1 Elevator, to be taken at your own risk (we did not try….)

Corridors : score : 2/5
• Covered by full carpet limiting footnoise.
• Walls are painted bricks. Not a modern style.
• Sufficiently clean.

Room : score : 1/5 (outdated infrastructure !)
Room : double.
OUTDATED !
• Entrance via regular Yale key.
• Poor lightning.
• Sufficiently clean.
• Full carpet covered floors.
• Dark brown interior gives impression of having arrived in a hotel of pre-Berlin Wall East European country.
• Room at the end of the corridor.
• Crap heating : (other customers had similar complaints)
o Outdated radiators filled with air.
o Very noisy.
o Do not sufficiently give heat.
• Room located at the side of the hotel, facing parking.
• Insulation :
o Window : Traffic noise penetrates into the room.
o Door/Walls :
 Corridor noise only penetrates faintly into the room, probably because there are two doors before you arrive in the bedroom.
 Next rooms noise does not penetrate into the room, as there were no guests and room was at the end of the hallway.
o Lots of noise of underlying infrastructure (boiler room ? kitchen ?).
• No airco available.
• Bed : stable matrass, pillows OK, standard bed cover (duvet).
• No minibar.
• No water heather.
• Old television with sufficiently big screen.
• No LAN connection, but WIFI in the hotel.
• Small paper notepad with stylo available.
• Extra chairs+table.
• Room service available.

Bathroom :
• OUTDATED !
• Bath-shower combination.
• Batch sufficiently big for 1m70 person.
• Separate old sink with old taps, mirror and small hairdryer.
• Temperature of water fluctuates seriously while taking a shower.
• Tiles in bathroom outdated.
• Showergel available.

Restaurant : score : 3/5
• Restaurant area needs repainting (large black areas in neighbourhood of airco).
• Quality and taste of the dishes is good to very good.
• Sufficient choice between meat and fish dishes. We have overlooked if there is choice for vegetarian.
• Price/quality is convenient for 4-star hotel (regretfully, this is never a 4-star hotel, seen the infrastructure).
• Waiting time is acceptable.
• Service is good with friendly and professional waitresses.

Breakfast : score : 3/5
• Breakfast area definitely needs re-painting. Furniture is convenient.
• Buffet style.
• Large choice in types of bread.
• Warm (eggs, bacon,…) and cold different types of salami, ham, cheese available.
• Different cereals available.
• Orange juice, milk, etc. available.
• Different types of tea, hot coco, coffee available.
• Personnel is very friendly.
• We have not noticed any newspapers.
Breakfast was included in the overnight stay.

Fitness : N/A (if there was one, we haven’t found it).

Sauna (Thermen) : score : 4/5 (Be aware : dress code : nude).
(Rating for sauna is compared to full sauna complexes we have visited. The rating is not applicable for hotel-only sauna).
• Sauna complex located next to the hotel, with entrance via the hotel.
• Lockers : Separate electronic lockers available.
• Full sauna complex “Thermen Born”, with multitude of sauna’s, steam room, infra-red, hot and cold swimming pools, restaurant.
(Please visit the related web site for more info).

Bar : score : N/A
Not visited.

Came here because we thought that it would be a great place to be pampered on your honeymoon. How wrong we were. They say that this is a 4 star hotel. But given the way they run this place. I am hard pressed to find two stars for it. The only thing that comes close to being four star is the prices for so little. Paid €24 for a mixed grill. Got four pieces of meat no bigger than a pack cigarettes. Asked for my meat to be cooked medium and got very well done. Got Seven chips and a small salad. Way too little for so much money.
Hotel room don't come up to four star. Clean, but no way would I call this a four star room.
We have two single beds pushed together with single duvets. So no way could you as couple on honeymoon enjoy the room together. There is not even anywhere to get a soft drink or anything if you wake up thirsty during the night. The water tastes real yuk.
Staff here are only out to make one thing, and that is not to make us feel welcome. They are just in it to make money. They have not even made us welcome or even anything special for us on our honeymoon.
Parking is a joke too. Unless you park up real early in the day, then your stuck. All the parking spaces are being used by them coming to use the sauna facilities.
Room service. They came and did something in here. But I will tell you that they just picked up used towels and folded them up and put them back on the rail.
Would I recommend this hotel to any one?
NO I WOULD NOT.
