“Comfortable, recently refurbished”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

This hotel looks like it has recently been refurbished. Nice decoration, good beds and well-equipped bedrooms. The pool was small but warm and clean; sauna not very hot, but pleasant. Breakfast was quite lavish and good; dinner was good but service was excruciatingly slow (for which staff kept apologising). Good value weekend breaks. Beautiful location in the beech woods, but car essential. All in all a very pleasant stay.

In a great setting in the woods close to Utrecht (if you have a car). Parking is secure and spacious for safe parking. The hotel feels more like a business hotel and is nicely decorated. A swimming pool is available but we did not use it. We did not have dinner. Breakfast is decent as expected. Everything is there what you can expect but nothing extraordinary. The rooms are also ok with all the basics in but they are on the small side. We paid a extra low fee of 65 euro per room between Xmas and new year so good value for money.

It's an wonderful place to stay. Friendly staff, pretty and big room, good breakfast, nice facilities(gym, pool, bikes for rent, two bars, restaurant...
The walls are a little too thin and I could hear the neighbors...

I stayed here for a two-day conference. Location is very good, nice and quiet in the woods. Plenty of parking space, good rooms (good beds, and quiet), food was OK (breakfast and lunch very good, dinner average). All in all, a nice hotel.

I stayed in the Ernst Sillem in a search to find a nice hotel within 20kms of Utrecht center. The hotel is about 15mins drive from the center of Utrecht, so that's ok.

I chose the hotel as it seemed to have a nice swimming pool and was located in a green and quiet environment.

The hotel itself looks very nice from the outside, and also the decoration inside is ok. Unfortunately, it's a very active congress hotel. I have nothing against this, but the congress activities shouldn't impact on the hotel services, which they did here (lots of shouting from both congress people and staff, staff standing behind the counter trying to figure out what party goes to which conference room while you try to get their attention...)

The receptionist at checkin was very friendly and the room itself was average. It was clean, but lacking that bit of class that makes it an enjoyable place to stay. There was free wireless internet, but very bad reception (the receptionist told me that they were trying to fix this).

The breakfast was a dissapointment, some of the hot food wasn't too hot, the breakfast room was dull and there was no service. The staff that was visible didn't take the time to say greet the customers, they just plainly ignored you. For myself, staying in a hotel 50% of my time, I expect to see a friendly face at breakfast, so the day is off to a good start.

Coming back from work, I was looking forward to a good swim and sauna, only to find that the swimming pool (and therefore also the sauna, as they were in the same room) was closed. Asking the reception, they could only let me know that there was a 'technical problem' with it and that they did not know when it was going to be fixed)

In general, the location (it is located in a wooded area, and providing good weather you could make nice walks or rent a bike) is very nice and the hotel has the possibility to be good, but this would need a stronger management with more attention to detail.
