We stayed at this hotel for 4 weeks this summer, and then again this past month for a week.
It is one of the newer hotels of the Van der Valk chain, and certainly a big improvement over the older Van der Valk hotels.
Parking: free and plenty of it.
Check-in: quick, no problems even with my early arrival.
No bell service, but there are luggage carts. I am sure though someone of the staff will help you if you ask. It is that kind of place.
Staff: I have nothing but good words for them! Great personal service, very accommodating; if it is within their power to please the guest, they will.
Example: When my elderly mother arrived early one day to have breakfast with us, the front desk staff made sure she was seated comfortably while waiting, and served her coffee with cake on the house. I think this is exceptional.
The rooms: well designed, the beds are the best I have come across in hotels, rooms are clean, plenty of storage space for your clothes, modern furniture, flatscreen TV, and the bathrooms are very large with separate bath and shower.
Location: on the edge of Houten, a small town near Utrecht with an authentic old center (a few nice restaurants there) as well as a larger shopping area in the newer section of town. Bus stop in front of the hotel. Easy access to A27. Houten has its own railway station with ample parking in the garage of the adjacent shopping center. It is about 10 minutes by train to the center of Utrecht, an old city certainly worth of a visit. Utrecht Central Station is a main hub for trains to every corner of the Netherlands.
Restaurant: breakfast is fantastic, so many choices and a chef on the spot. Lunch and dinner: decent quality and reasonable prices. Make sure to order "bitterballen" with your cockails! The place is big, and can be rather crowded in the weekends. Staff is efficient, pleasant, and great with children. My grandkids, 2, 3, and 5 years old, love to come for dinner there; the kids menu comes with crayons, a picture to color, and an animal cup to take home.
There is no pool, and no exercise room, however, since the hotel is at the edge of town it is easy to go for a run.
Internet included in the room price.
I will return!
All rooms are fine, as far as I have experienced. I have a preference for a high floor and they coul...
