“Very nice hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

Very nice hotel, however not very central. 20mins from Rotterdam, hotel has had a recent renovation and its almost finished. The breakfast is excellent and the new refurbished rooms are fabulous. Beds are very comfortable and if you avoid the car park view, it is much better. The restaurant is also very good. A very good business hotel provided you want to stay in this locality.

This hotel is really nothing special - it has big comfortable rooms with very generic furniture. The WiFi only works on the first floor and is pathetically slow. For a meeting hotel, its unacceptable. I was here for a meeting - food was good and meeting went well. Its far from center with limited public transport access. If you want to stay in Rotterdam, this isn't the place.

Stayed just one night. The room was clean, enough space for the two of us, with a comfortable bed.
There is not much choice for dinner but the quality is very much allright. The price for it was a bit too high I would say.
There are (during the weekend) enough free parkingspots next to the hotel. That is good news because parkingcosts and parkingtickets are expensive in Rotterdam.
Hotelstaff is very kind and customerfriendly.

Staid here for one night due to the Rotterdam marathon. Room was spacey enough for two and clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was OK but i had better.
I have just one little complaint there is no free wifi available.
Hotel is located just outside the city centre. It's about a 15 minute run to the world trade centre where all the shops are located.

Stayed at this hotel for one night with friends.

20mins very pleasant walk from the train station. The hotel itself looked like a building site from the outside but inside in reception very plush and modern in it's new décor.

Our rooms were on the second floor and as soon as we left the public areas we could see how dated this hotel is. Upstairs were dark corridors leading to rooms in need of updating. Both our bathrooms had been updated with large walk in showers and modern fittings but the bedrooms themselves were still to be worked on. The safe in neither of our rooms worked so we moved to another room where one did work (this was after 2 calls down to reception after no-one arrived after our first call). 2 rooms had had their trouser presses removed and our friend's room had a trouser press which was placed over the socket meaning it could not be plugged in. Our second room had a hair-drier which glowed red hot then blew it's fuse within seconds - fortunately the drier in our initial room was working and we still had the key card.

The twin beds in both our rooms had been pushed together as requested, but made up as separate beds rather than doubles which we found rather odd. The duvets looked very lumpy, but were fine to lay under. As it was a Saturday night we were staying we did not get any build work noise but we both overlooked building work/scaffolding (front and back) which may have been noisy and obtrusive if we'd stayed during the week.

Breakfast however was brilliant in a massive dining room with candelabras and lit candles on tables. Wonderfully decorated and with a wall of glass overlooking the patio outside. Fabulous array of foods for breakfast including hot food. The best choice of fruit juices I have ever come across!

If the owners of this hotel continue the standard of decoration in the public areas downstairs into the hallways and bedrooms upstairs then this will be a first class hotel to stay in.

Room Tip: Knowing that this hotel is being renovated it would be worth asking if there is a room available whi...

Decent sized room and enjoyed my stay there - I would say it was a little bit too quiet for me, and a quite a distant from Rotterdam's nightlife. I would still recommend this hotel for people who want solace.

The reception was very clean and tidy as well as the rooms, I would stay clear from the restaurant - as I am Muslim and dont eat pork, everything had pork in the menu including the side salads!! but the staff were pleasant enough and once they got to know me they knew what i liked and didn't.

The Van Der Valk is in my experience a reliable chain. This is a large hotel. The rooms are clean with plenty of space and modern. It is literally next door to the zoo which was our main reason for staying here but is also a straightforward 15 minute walk into the centre of Rotterdam. It is a pleasant walk and although the hotel guidance gives you bus advice it really isnt necessary unless the weather is too wet to walk.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel doesnt have a lot of character but it comes across as a more business trip type fo hotel.
The only issue is it has very limited parking meaning that you may need to pay for the parking opposite the hotel.

Room Tip: The hotel is set back from the main road and is not in a residential area so noise wasnt an issue
