“Magical”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

This was where my fiance proposed to me this June during our stay. The location is magic right across the road from the ocean. The owners are lovely and super helpful. The rooms are well equipped, and there is a beautiful Oasis style pool area within the grounds. Very easy access by car, taxi and there is even a regular bus service in and out of Cairns, right near the resort. The cafe/bar across the road and on the beach is like a tropical cabana. We also visited Machans Beach one afternoon and there is a beautiful alfresco restaurant overlooking the water, which is worth a visit.

We took a scenic flight over the reef too, which was magnificent. The hotel is able to book these types of services and many other tours for you at the reception desk as well as provide some great tips and information on options.

All in all, I wouldn't have picked anywhere else to stay, the area and accommodation was wonderful.

Just 15mins north of Cairns Airport we found Cairns Beach Resort a welcoming haven for our 7day break from the cold temperatures of Sydneys winter.
Lynne and Glen are so friendly and helpful with advice on all things from diving to dining.
Overlooking gardens, beach and cafe our first floor apartment was spacious, comfortable and sparkling clean with a modern touch.
A little early traffic noise but just close the window. Going to bed you hear the soothing sound of the waves on the beach.
Breakfast on our balcony, long walks on a tropical beach followed by coffee at "Strait on the Beach" in the tropical garden overlooking the sea, sand and mountains to the south.
Holloway's Beach is predominately residential with practical facilities within an easy stroll.
Our resort pool area was so peaceful for reading and relaxing and we used the bar-b-q facilities a couple of nights as well. We will return!!

Stayed here for a few nights in June. The place is very quiet and relaxing if you want to get away and relax. The people who run the place are really nice and helpful. Couldn't compliment them enough. The beach is just across the street and so is a nice little cafe that serves a nice breakfast. There's a bus stop across the street to reach cairns etc. The pool is ok, though nothing outstanding. There is wireless Internet but unfortunately it didn't work half of the time. The flat was clean and functional. Air conditioning was available in the bedroom (though not in the living room where the fold out sofa is). Having said that, the flat is by no means something I would call modern or impressive. It just did the job. Overall, a cute little place run by lovely people that is ideal for a nice and unsophisticated get away.

This was our second trip to Cairns and choice of the hotel was easy for us.
Cairns Beach Hotel offers spacious apartments with the swimming pool or ocean views.
Great location if you want quick travel to Cairns, Port Douglas or Kuranda.
Very quiet and relaxing
Service was excellent.

Room Tip: We would suggest balcony facing swimming pool.

As others have mentioned, the setting is gorgeous - very much like a Hawaiian resort. Holloways Beach is out of the way but near to airport (10 minute drive) and town (20 minute drive), marinas and nice restaurants. We loved the quaint local shops and eateries. Cairns Beach Resort is older and somewhat dated, but everything was clean and well maintained. The wifi was almost unusable in unit 59, but the views from the unit and the peaceful meals on the patio made up for it. Only the bedrooms are air conditioned, and during our stay it was very humid. Not inexpensive, but what you would expect to pay at a resort and the rooms are quite large. Fully stocked with washer/dryer, fridge, and utensils. Hours for reception are limited, so make sure you are tucked in by 6:00!

Overall, a very nice place to stay.

My sister and I recently stayed at Cairns Beach Resort during our trip to Far North QLD.

We were pleased with the facilities, which provided a home-away-from-home during our holiday. The unit was clean and well-decorated and taken care of, with enough facilities (internal laundry, kitchen) to allow us to be self-sustaining yet comfortable for the duration of our visit.

The owners were friendly, accommodating, and full of knowledge about the local region. Also, the location suited us perfectly - close to the region's attractions, while being quietly outside of Cairns and close to the beach. The Smithfield Shopping Centre (only 5-10 minutes away) has most facilities that you'd need (including Woolies, Coles, and KMart) so, with a hire car, it truly is a convenient location.

The only downside: we ran out of time to enjoy the resort and Holloways Beach. Too much else to see!

This is an older but very well maintained resort. The garden and poolside area in the centre of the complex really are the feature of the property, with tall palms and other lush tropical plants (I guess that's the benefit of an older resort - the gardens have had time to grow). As lots of reviewers have mentioned, the couple who manage the resort are very friendly and approachable

The resort is essentially several blocks of self-contained apartments which circle around the pool and garden. The apartment was spacious, with a separate bedroom, and had plenty of cupboard space. There's a washing machine and dryer in a cupboard in the room too. The balconey was large enough for several people to sit comfortably around the table (unlike some tiny balconeys you find in hotels). The decor was simple and tasteful. The apartment basically felt like a well kept older house, in terms of the fittings etc in the kitchen and bathroom (i.e. it's not like a nice hotel bathroom or shiny new kitchen). The apartment was really, really clean. Very well maintained.

Holloways Beach is about 10 mins from Cairns town (we had a hire car - and we noticed that the resort had signs advertising excellent rates on car hire. Something like $40 a day, so check with them before you hire a car). There's a great little cafe across the road from the resort, which overlooks the beach. There's also a really good pizza restaurant nearby.

There was only one thing that wasn't great - and that was noise. We stayed during school holidays, which meant there was a fair bit of noise coming from the pool area most days. The rooms are close to the pool, and even with the windows shut, it was pretty noisy. The rooms are generally close to the stairwell, so you can also hear people going up and down the stairs, doors banging, people talking etc. It wasn't a big problem, and it was only during the day, but if you want peace and quiet maybe check if they have rooms that would be quieter. But this resort certainly would suit families with kids.
