well we will never know if it was bad timing as far as weather goes(had been rainy prior to our arrival), wrong time of year or just how it is here but one night here was enough due to the humidity. after 2 boats, a taxi and a river banka we finally arrived around 9pm. headed up the million stairs to the large communal meals/drinking/chill out area and had a quick meal and beer. had a nice atmosphere, very relaxed and friendly but so so so hot. we thought there may have been a fan or 2 around the area but nothing and the air was completely still. and after climbing the stairs to get there you're already sweating .
decided to crash early to have an early start so grabbed the key to our room and headed down the dark path to our room. we were a room with a bathroom(can't remember the name sorry) which was clean and basic. had mozzie nets over the 2 beds and a fan which was a welcome relief after sweating non stop since we arrived .
unfortunately the air was so humid that everything was wet. and i mean wet. the mattress, pillow, sheet, towel EVERYTHING. ended up sleeping on a beach towel we'd brought with us and finally got to sleep.
in the morning we promptly climbed the million stairs again to get up to the reception area and checked out.
i loved the surroundings, very peaceful, and the atmosphere was really relaxed. you can hear insects everywhere and the green jungle surrounding you is beautiful. the food was good and cheep. the staff very friendly and helpful. they will help you arrange tours and taxis to get around.traveling up the river in a banka is lovely.
wish we'd had a better experience but the humidity and lack of relief from it was a bit much. if the meals area had some fans around it would've made a big difference but who wants to be sweating into their breakfast before the day has even started? and sleeping on a wet bed is horrible. sorry to all you young backpackers who have all positive things to say, i guess I'm getting old
