4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

"Een Huis Tussen Dag en Morgen" is a strategic location for those who like to dwell the annual art & poetry festival in Watou is, each year between July and September, like we do. This little hotel is situated in the heart of it at the Watouplein, that during the festival is renamed after one of Flanders' top poets, Hugo Claus. The owners, Erna and Guy, will take care of you very well, and feed you for a good price when you make a choice of the limited, but appropriate, menu. A bonus of the hotel is that poetry will follow you until your sleep, as you'll find one of the festival's highlights printed on your pillow.

Hugo Claus composed this sentence - his silhouette and poems are shown on the hotel's door and in the rooms, on the cushions. My wife and I are true visitors, and, as usual, got helpful tips from the owners, Guy and Erna Masschelein, to get around. The hotel is in the middle of this small village, and is an excellent starting point for sightseeiing the region, i.e., the Western part of Flanders (West-Vlaanderen), and it's French counterpart.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back side (#4 and #6) are the most quiet.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

Every year, my wife and I visit the annual poetry-cum-sculptures festival in the lovely village of Watou, situated a few hundred yards from the French-Belgian border. Owner Erna and her husband Guy are very caring - way beyond the level you would expect in the busy season. The hotel shows several (Flemish-language) poems selected from the 25+ occasions that the poetry festival took place. The food is simple but very good, and they offer a choice of beers on draught and in bottles as many of their colleague-restaurants in Watou do. The only critical comment one might have is that the hotel does not feature internet facilities, but in fact that is highly appropriate as the art exhibited in Watou should absorb all your attention.
