“A sweet surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2010

We arrived very late as we were driving back to Holland from Spain. Thierry stayed up for us and let us into our sweet little room with no complaint. We parked our car in the locked driveway which was great, although the village is small and very safe. We slept in the Chambord room - all the rooms are named after Chateaus - very peaceful, although the bed was a bit hard. Good shower pressure, too. Lovely garden surrounding this Chambre D'Otre. One of the best breakfast's I have ever had with homemade jam and yogurt - both made by Rene. And don't forget the precious dogs! We would definitely return.

The Sologne is a useful stopping point for me, and I have stayed at various hotels in the vicinity. I alwys liked the village of Tharonne, as it is the pretiest in the locality, and I thought that it would be wonderful to find a good hotel there.

We stayed at Le Petit Clos for one night in September. The owners were very helpful. They organised dinner for us at the local restaurant in advance, and reserved a ground floor room, as we have 2 dogs. They did all this on trust, as they did not require us to place a deposit.

We arrived to a very warm welcome and to a lovely room, well furnished with antiques, and a comfortable bed. After we had taken a walk around the village, we were offered a beer in the garden, and chatted to one of the owners.

The breakfast next morning was lovely, with home made french toast, and the bill came to quite a lot less than a room at an Ibis. I intend to stay here again, and cannot praise it highly enough.

A wonderful warm welcome, fabulous breakfast, especially the French toast and a great room on the ground floor with access to the very pretty garden ( we stayed in the Chambord room). The B&B is in pretty village with good amenities and 2 restaurants - one is a very short walk from Le Petit Clos. It is well situated for the chateaux of the Loire. Thierry & Rene are great hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return. Highly recommended.

We stopped at Le Petit Clos on our way home from the Dordogne. Finding Chaumont sur Tharonne was itself a lovely surprise - a beautiful little town with a very laidback, peaceful feel to it. Le Petit Clos was warm and welcoming - Rene brought us a beer in the idyllic garden on our arrival, and the room was everything we needed, right down to the travel cot ready and made up with an inviting quilt. Breakfast saw the best French toast we have ever eaten, and a high chair and baby breakfast set waiting for our baby. We would definitely recommend the short detour to Chaumont for a stay at Le Petit Clos to break up a journey, but also for a longer stay in the area.

Set in a small ancient village is this pretty five bedroom property. The owners Rene Baril and Thierry Le Moing made us very welcome, they were the most gracious hosts.
We shared an evening drink with other residents and learnt a lot about the area. Our rooms were very clean, bright and cheerful, great shower too.
There is a small garden. The Chambre d'hotes was full of antiques and interesting pieces. We walked to the nearest restaurant and had a super evening.
After our meal we walked around the village which was delightful, then back for a great nights sleep. Breakfast was superb, french toast, home-made yoghurt, both wonderful, lots of other goodies.
Our large dogs were made welcome and there is plenty of places to take them for a walk before getting on with the journey.
We will definitely be staying there again as its a great halfway house when driving down to the Pyrenees.
