“Perfection. And a bargain, too!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2011

We were so glad that we discovered this absolute gem of a small hotel. I originally found the listing on the Karen Brown website, and then checked reviews on Tripadvisor. Without Karen Brown, we would never have found it, as it is not listed among Beaune hotels, being just out of town in the little "suburb" of Montagny-Les-Beaune, just an easy 5 minute drive from Beaune.
Hotel Le Clos is just a dream of a country hotel. It is has been converted into a hotel from an 18th century (formerly abandoned) farmhouse-- and what a beautiful, tasteful, elegant and comfortable renovation. The public rooms are warm, welcoming and beautiful, and the gardens are spacious and very pretty, with seating areas to enjoy the gardens on sunny days. The rooms were comfortable, very nicely decorated though not lavish, with excellent bathrooms. At 85 euros, our room was a ridiculous bargain.
We would have happily paid far more for any room in this hotel.
Setting was tranquil, rooms were spotless, breakfast was lovely, service was kind and helpful--
This hotel is beyond excellent, in fact superb.

John and I happened upon this delightful inn! The room was great, the garden and outside sitting areas were beautiful and scattered with antique farm implements. The owner plus the people working the desk were very accomodating and friendly. This was my favorite place!! Bien sur.

I stayed here in August with a girlfriend and we loved this property. The owners are warm and welcoming and the farmhouse is so idyllic. Our room was huge and looked out over the back of the property. Breakfast is served in a gorgeous courtyard with beautiful flowers. This hotel is a 3 minute drive to the center of Beaune and is absolutely perfect for a short sojourn in Burgundy. I would recommend it highly.

We spent 2 nights in this hotel at the end of September and would not hesitate to return. The owners and staff were friendly and accommodating, the rooms are comfortable and then gardens beautiful. It is a quiet relaxing environment and may not have much tom offer children.

The hotel is beautifully maintained and the displays of flowers were remarkable

This hotel is a a few kms out of Beaune and does not have a restaurant so be prepared to drive home after dinner.

Hotel le Clos is a nice, quiet place to stay if you are visiting the Burgundy region of France. It has a country feel to it, but it is in an area with many other homes and a few other hotels. It is also not far at all from the town of Beaune. You'll need a car if you're staying here.

We booked a 2-story room with the bed in a loft area, which you reach by a narrow set of stairs. We were worried from some pictures that there would be too much light shining through the sunlight window into the sleeping area, but we were pleasantly surprised to find that it was well-equipped with a switch that electronically closed the shades. This was one of the few modernities of the room.

The rest of the room was nice, but quite dated and more functional than interesting. It was more like a small apartment (without a kitchen). The front desk staff was nice and accomodating and spoke o.k. English - between our broken French and their o.k. English, we communicated just fine. Also, we had someone drop off a package for us, and they remembered who we were when we got back to our room for the day, and they stopped us before we got to the room to give us the package. We were pleasantly surprised that they remembered who we were.

All in all, Hotel le Clos is a nice, quiet, clean, well-managed place to stay near Beaune, but do not expect luxury.

We spent 4 nights at Hotel le Clos and we found it to be a wonderful base to explore the region.
The old farm building complex has been tastefully renovated and decorated and there are some interesting photographs of the restoration process. Our room was clean, spacious and beautifully furnished. The owner of the hotel is a charming and attentive host. The staff were all very professional, helpful and friendly. When we arrived at reception, the receptionist explained the layout of the hotel, showed us to our room and offered to help us find a restaurant for dinner that evening. She made us a booking at the restaurant next door and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and meal at this interesting and quirky venue. (Le Berger du Temps) The hotel is in a lovely, quiet semi-rural area just outside the hustle and bustle of Beaune. The Hotel's gardens are magnificent and breakfast on the terrace each morning was an absolute pleasure. We would thoroughly recommend Hotel le Clos and we would love to return to this peaceful and special hotel.

I seem to be the only one who thinks this, but it's spectacularly mean to put up so many aggressive 'No Picnic' signs in the garden of the hotel that doesn't itself have a restaurant. True to his word, the owner also enforced his 'No Picnic' rule by screaming so hysterically at us when he caught us eating in the garden that we thought he was the rudest man we'd ever met. He then screamed "Tais-toi! Tais-toi! C'est degoutant!" at our confused children who had been playing noisily (but like normal kids) in the (empty) garden (at 8pm). In addition the exterior of the hotel is twee and the rooms are 80s naff. We immediately cancelled our return trip.
