“Distracted by Staff Confrontation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

While we were eating dinner here, one of the male staff members was having a confrontation with another diner - he was acting oddly and in our opinion unprofessional. It made our dining experience less than perfect. The salad with duck and goose gizzards was actually quite tasty--the entrees of fish and scallops, less so. We had a much better experience at La Petite Tonnelle the next evening.

Stayed 2 nights as part of a walking holiday. So it was pre booked by a tour company. This is a qwerky place. Staff were helpful coffee beer and cider all good. Rooms need a good going over, leaking shower, slight smell of mould (any wonder with such a leaking shower) that went once we used the bathroom. Dinner was country French-I think, big hearty and saucy. Not my preferred diet. Wish them well.

Olivier and Isabelle, the new owners are devoted to their clients
We wouldnt expect more comfort for a 2 stars Hotel but we discovered instead a 1 star Michelin kind of restaurant in place !!! Please keep that chef !!!
Unbelievable super meals with a family minded service at a great price !!! We will be back soonest

Room Tip: get the rooms with the terrasse over the river

The Bed was great and we slept wonderfully well - but what really made this hotel and restaurant were the delightful owners who really understand how to make you feel welcome. Madam is very pretty and Monsieur very handsome - that's a good start - and the menu in the restaurant is one of the best value we have had in France! The red wine by the pichet was also absolutely excellent at 14 euros for a litre (and hence probably why we slept so well!)

Waking up in the morning we were able to appreciate the amazing setting too, this is a delightful village and is surrounded by fantastic things to see.

Put this on your "must stay and eat at" destinations and you will be happy campers we promise!

We absolutely loved the town of Beynac, but we had managed to visit during a heat wave that was exacerbated by the fact that the didn't have air conditioning in our room. we were disappointed that they gave us a family room (four of us) without AC as we had booked 6 months ahead and specifically requested AC after reading the reviews. It was also located on the street, and we fought the battle of sound versus fresh air at night as we were in the midst of a heat wave. We also managed to stay at the hotel on the town's anniversary of independence (mid-August), which they celebrate with an incredible show of fireworks over the river, so the town was overcrowded, and they actually closed the road for the night. Fortunately, we had booked ahead early enough, but we ended up hiking up the mountain to find a restaurant that would feed us as all the restaurant were booked up days in advance! We then stayed out for the fireworks and watched as they lit up the sky. While we went to bed before midnight, many others stayed awake celebrating their independence.

The location of the hotel was amazing, but we were unlucky despite our attempt to being planful. If you stay here, consider spending a day taking a canoe ride from Vitrac and take a lazy ride down...stopping in La Roque for lunch (Amour d'Or), swimming in little pullouts, touring the chateau Castelnaud and taking in the amazing views. Despite our sleepless nights, we had a wonderful time in this town.

Good location but very basic and shabby. Door handle fell off, shower liquid soap broken, only one bedside table.
Room was clean but otherwise disappointing.
Food was pretty good and staff eager to please.
Hotel is on main centre of the village with views to river and under the castle

Stayed in the studio apartment (double bed and sofa bed) as it was the only room available in September! Adequate room and comfortable although the ensuing bathroom in necessarily small with a tiny shower.
The selling point for the hotel is the location. It's bang slap in the centre of this small town and Beynac is a great place to visit the Dordogne from. Be aware that the hotel has no private parking and you need to use the public car park across the road which requires payment between 0900-1900 hrs every day of the week. Had an evening meal in the hotel restaurant on one occasion which was very nice but marred by the poor attitude of the rude waitress, all the other staff were great. Breakfast was also taken and no complaints there. Free wifi, so long as you are situated in the dining room, bar or reception works well.

Room Tip: There is no fitness centre so ignore the score above. Book early to get the room you want!
