“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2012

Agree with all the other reviewers, this is a lovely hotel in a nice quiet location. You are made to feel welcome from the minute you arrive and their English is really good although they'll say its not. Breakfast and dinner are both very good and to sit on the outside terrace for meals was lovely. Our room had a large balcony overlooking the garden was a good size, bathroom huge, air con was a bonus as it was so hot when we were there. Some good walks in the surrounding area and nice villages to wander round. Would definitely return.

From the friendly welcome to our departure,Hosteria de Guara never missed a beat. A wonderful setting, excellent views from the comfortable rooms, and excellent food for both dinner and breakfast. We were lucky to enjoy dinner on the outside terrace in the evening sun. The attraction is the peace and quiet - so it's not a place if you're looking for night life. Nor are there other options for eating in the drinking in Bierge, so it's a good thing that this hotel is so good.

My wife and I had eight nights at the Hosteria de Guara and enjoyed every part of our stay. The room was excellent with a comfortable bed and decent size en suite bathroom. We were serenaded every day and night by a Nightingale which performed outside our room in the old garden. The surrounding area is peaceful and there are many local walks which don't require the use of a car. The bird watching is very good locally and even better if you go into the Guara park. I saw all three vultures from the patio whilst enjoying a beer and the nearby vulture feeding station ( a mile away ) is very dramatic if you get to see the birds gathering for food. In fact the area at this time of year ( early May ) was very beautiful and devoid of tourists. The staff at the hotel are great and we were very well looked after throughout our stay. They were helpful without being intrusive and Eva works extraordinarily hard to make sure that you enjoy your stay. The food is very good and we enjoyed all our meals. The drinks are not too expensive and the value for money is good. We have been all over the world and this has to be one of our best holidays. We shall return.

I'm a keen birder so I want to be near to birding sites.... and this hotel is excellent for that and for its hospitality. I've stayed on 4 occasions now and the food is very good (rustic style) and the accommodation is just what I want for a birdwatching trip - comfortable but not fussy. In February this year I invited 10 friends to join me and everyone was really happy with this hotel. My photos are from a visit in Oct 2011.

Room Tip: A room over the back (over the pool) is best. See my photo from Oct 2011

This hotel is like a small palace, really, set in a rural village location. Sumptuously comfortable room: effective heating system made the room delightfully warm and cozy after being out and about on a bitterly cold February day. Decor simple and very pretty. All immaculately clean. Eva's smiling, welcoming hospitality and service far exceeded the call of duty; her command of English is extremely strong: most reassuring for one who, lamentably, lacks Spanish. Food, cooked skilfully by Eva's sister Anna (I think her mother helps too) and wine were excellent; the packed lunches, with warming soup, were most generous. I can recommended this hotel to anyone (I stayed as part of a group of eleven birdwatchers) who wants to explore the breathtaking Guara National Park and wider countryside.

Room Tip: My room, and presumably many others, had a balcony with very scenic aspect.

A wonderful rural hotel : rooms very comfortable and spotlessly clean, food and wine excellent - but most importantly and noticeably of all was the attitude of the owner: she simply could not have done more to make our stay enjoyable; nothing was too much trouble and everything was done with a smile. If only all hoteliers could be like that ! I'm planning to go back already.....

Room Tip: Some rooms have balconies with fine views over open country

We only stayed one night to join English friends who had stayed here the year before. Our friends needed to top up their wine cellar, we were urged to help and it was their 30th wedding anniversary after all. We loved every minute of our stay. From the friendly arrival to the fond farewell. Our rooms had adjoining balconies - very handy for sundowners overlooking the magnificent village, the hotel pool and garden. At night the church and the village lights looked like a scene from a postcard. The room was large and very comfortable. The bathroom was a good size with lots of hot water. Plenty of hanging space in the wardrobe for those lucky enough to be staying longer. Complimentary welcome pack full of goodies on the bed and lovely toiletries in the bathroom. Fresh flowers in our room and even more fresh flowers in each and every public area in the hotel. Great attention to every detail. A delicious evening meal, complemented by fine local wines. Ava the host organised wine tours for our friends and was very knowledgable about the different wineries in the area. We understand her husband is a wine expert and helps select the wines for the hotel's very fine wine list. The grounds are beautiful and well cared for - there is even a veggie patch. The swimming pool area and gardens are immaculate. A very busy bar frequented by friendly locals. Mama and Papa are also on hand to make you feel welcome and very at ease. Plenty of parking this time of year. On the edge of town with very easy walking distance into the charming village of Bierge. I would dearly love to return one day.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the back overlooking the pool
