NOTE: We stayed over Memorial Day weekend. Many of the problems we experienced were due to the large number of guests who did not leave the resort when they checked out, the large number of guests arriving before check in time, and the weddings that the hotel hosted.
This hotel is truly in a wonderful location. Less than a mile from Blue Heron Bridge, it makes a great spot for divers to stay. The beach is beautiful and there's even some totally decent snorkeling out front once you swim out past the swimmers and the breakers (there appears to be an old wreck and a dead reef... I saw many of the typical fish you'd see in a reef around Palm Beach including sgt majors, parrot fish, and barracuda). Even the beach chair rentals were reasonable ($5/hr or $15 for the day for a chair and umbrella) and came with cabana service...which was slow but whatever, you're on the beach!
Service and Staff
The hotel staff was friendly, but not at our arrival. I don't want to go into details but we distinctly felt that we were a bit of a nuisance. As I said before, the ocean side cabana service was rather slow...but that's to be expected. What was more surprising is that the server was not familiar with the beers on tap. We ordered a pretty popular microbrew beer that they had on tap and the waiter looked distinctly confused with the order and questioned it. He did, however, bring out the right beer, also...he was taking orders on the beach, which is not exactly a quite place with the sounds of kids playing and the waves breaking...so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
The rooms were clean but... On our second day, we left the room by 830. When we returned at 230, housekeeping still had not yet arrived. When we called, they sent someone up so that by the time we came in from the beach (530), the room had been made but..... they took our towels but did not replace them. They left us with ONE towel and they did not refresh the toiletries. When we called about this, however, they were quick to rectify the situation. They also did not change the sheets on one of the beds, even though there was a stain on the white duvet cover. Later in the evening, a friend came to our room and tripped on a chair broke a glass. Another call to housekeeping/maintenance and someone came to our room with a vacuum. He was incredibly thorough and friendly.
and now, the bad...
When we arrived on Saturday around 130PM, the only parking was end of the row, illegal, parallel parking. Having grown up with a father who has a strong preference for "creative" parking, this was not a problem for me... Later in the evening (when the wedding ended), there was plenty of parking. We left and came back around 1:30 on Sunday and there was NO PARKING. My husband circled the lot for 45 minutes. NOTHING. One of the staff suggested that he park in the staff lot next door. Again, there was NOTHING. After that, my husband got lucky and followed a woman to her car. But he was not alone...there were many "land sharks" circling the parking lot that day. Despite the parking problems, we were charged $10/day. When we complained, they removed the charges without delay though (points for service!).
Eh - it was OK. It was a nice sized room. Good water pressure in the shower. The sheets were soft. But my bed was a little hard. It felt like it was on the end of the Hilton bedding cycle. My friends, however, found their bed very comfortable. I had a difficult time sleeping...not because of the bed but because of random noises and light. We had to lay a towel along the door jam to keep out the light (there was A LOT) and every fifteen minutes or so I heard a sound like a frog. It went ribbit ribbit..... ribbit ribbit.... ribbit ribbit. 3 sets of ribbits, then gone for 15 minutes or so. My husband never heard it but I have really sensitive hearing and usually sleep with a white noise machine (which I forgot this time around).
For the weekend we were there, I'd give the hotel a rating of "average" but I'll probably return - just NOT on a holiday weekend!!!!!
ALL rooms have a view of the ocean and a balcony. For most, it's only a partial view and a very...
