“Happy all along the way!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2014

We stayed at the Hotel Dellago shortly for only one night and were very happy with our choice. We had a quite reasonably priced room facing the street and with a shared balcony. The price is very fair compared to other equally equipped placed.
The breakfast buffet is great, the staff is friendly (however, not all staff speaks well English or German) and the food at the restaurant was amazing. Also the room was okay. Small as expected but with a comfortable mattress (for those who like hard mattresses) and especially, clean! Furthermore, the location with the view is amazing.
So for those looking for a place to stay with reasonable prices (compared to CH-standard) and a favor for design/nice atmosphere, I would recommend the Hotel Dellago!

Have stayed at this hotel three times over the past couple of years on business. Always had good experiences in the restaurant, and the property features fantastic quirky rooms - the upper floor lake view rooms are really special.

The only thing that's a little off is the way the management thinks it's ok to attack guests who make comments (see comment below). That's a little scary. Certainly it seems that the reviewer may not have been fair in his/her assessment of the property. But resorting to forensics and sarcasm in a public forum? I guess the management skipped class on the day they taught social media management.

Thanks a lot for the compliments; it is good to hear you liked us :-) There is nothing to be scared about, though, and I am sure you have experienced us (including me) as quite friendly and pretty inoffensive.

However, if we are being confronted with bare lies, being called arrogant, lousy, greedy, decadent, non professional, when being told to transfer our staff to McD or worse, when being attacked for what we are and for what we openly declare, then we do not bow and talk sweet, but reply firmly and decided.

Social media has tremendously changed the tone of communications, giving everybody the chance of being heard globally, but it lets people forget to be respectful and reasonable, specially on this platform where one gets points and gains ranks for every comment and where one gets more attention the more aggressive and personal a feedback gets.

With the anonymous accounts of these days it has become too easy to cross the limits, insult someone and unreasonably, dishonestly damaging a reputation for no reason but to cuddle the own ego and without having to fear consequences whatsoever.

I definitely prefer to be confronted with critics and feedbacks in a constructive and factual way that helps us to identify blind spots to improve, get generally better, give the concept the right direction or at least explain the why, but if someone just calls us decadent because we did not serve a coffee outside service hours, we can't really take it serious and don't see why we could not reply with some sarcasm... ;-)

Anyhow: Cheers and thanks again for your nice feedback, hope to see you again soon

Rene

Deterioration by all means. I used to stay regularly at Del Lago, though it was not near my business partner, it was my realxing ossis. Yes, the crew used to be very effecient, Barbara and the rest. They were simply everywhere: professional, service oriented and efficient. Even if I stayed in Como or Lugano, I always planned meals there...
Elas, that is history, we stopped at 13h55 on September 6th, 2013 and were received in a very unpleasant manner. She was so unpolite that I was really speechless. It was a new staff member, at least she was not there in May 2013. We could not eat ( Ok kitchen closes) but even not drink. She said these are the new opening hours and pointed to the door. Only hotel guests can order... There was no guests at all... If the management is maintaining the costs of opening including the manpower! Why receive other guests, specially when it is empty? What difference does it make?
The hospitality industry is selling a service and truly I would think twice before returning...

Buongiorno Soya B

Since we started in 2001 our restaurant and bar were never open in the afternoon for the simple reason to offer our hotel guests at least a few hours of privacy. As you know, our restaurant terrace is right above the sun deck and I think even you would appreciate not to have a bunch of passerbys having a drink upstairs while pleasurably staring right down on your naked belly or worse: we think this is a quality issue in favour of our hotel guests, but it obviously depends from which side one looks at it.

No manpower is required to offer our hotel guests drinks and a piece of cake in the afternoon though: we simply offer them free and unlimited amounts of soft drinks, a large variety of coffee specialities, a nice selection of first class teas, cake and/or fruits and a small selection of alcoholic beverages which we ask to register on a simple list. The manpower in the afternoon does not serve drinks or food, but replies to mails, checks in rooms, takes phone calls, organizes the reservations for dinner service, cleans dishes and public spaces and prepares the restaurant and bar/lounge for dinner. All this too has not changed since 2001.

To access the restaurant you must have passed two doors on which you must have ignored twice well visible A4 sized red and white signs on about eye height showing bold letters telling you in three common languages when the place is open to the public and, to make it clear also for who does not know what opening time means, there are even bolder white letters on a shiny bright red ground telling when it is closed ;-) But ok, according to your clock it was only 13:55 and thus, still open, indeed.

However, on friday, 6th of september 2013, the last lunch table of four asked for the bill at 14:01, payed with a credit card on 14:03 (electronic cash registers are fabulous, indeed...) and left around 5 minutes later. So, if there was no other guest present at your arrival, it must have been at least past 14:05. At that time you should still have encountered Chris and Barbara who both did lunch service. If there was only one girl around however, it was Nancy and it definitely had been past 14:30.

Problem is, all three girls present between noon and 18:00 at that day are with us between 4 and 10 years. Opening times and the afternoon complimentary service for hotel guests are openly explained on our website plus they come with every confirmation of room reservations; strange you did not know about that all: Maybe you have not been such a regular guest in the end?

Honestly: All that fuss and a complete change of admiration just because we did not sell you a drink when we were closed? Apparently you see things very much from your perspective, but consider: relying on one perspective only let's you miss important parts of the whole picture…

Cheers, Rene

Superb boutique hotel! Attention to detail by the management (free soft drinks in the afternoon), private access to beach, which in the evenings turns into a cool bar! Rooms are fantastic, especially if you get one of the pricier ones, they are definitely worth the price. All the rooms have a different look and are individually decorated. Dinner is also nice, and right at the lake. Maybe try the Italian dishes, the meat was a little disappointment, but the rest was great! Will definitely come back!

I stayed at Del Lago throughout September 2012 up to March 2013 and I can say it is a fantastic hotel. The staff are warm, helpful and professional, the food is amazing and the rooms individual. All the rooms are different so there will be one to suit everyone. I love them all as they are quirky and comfortable and reflect the personality of the hotel and its staff. I think my favorite room was Coffee and Cream as it has an amazing view of the lake and is on the top floor of the hotel. If you are looking for an individual hotel, not a bland corporate run chain, then Del Lago is perfect for you. Thank you to all the staff for making my stays so memorable.

Room Tip: The lake view rooms are lovely. If you want to spoil yourself have a "sparkling" room as t...

This place became relatively famous with the excellent food that was served. It appears however that the management (though not the head cook) have changed and it became a rudderless ship or one without a captain. The restaurant staff has to handle everything from check-in (when it takes them 15 minutes to find the room key) to the check-out (when they can't locate the room number in the computer). Hence the staff appears to be exhausted already at breakfast time. Whilst the food is still excellent, it stretches one's patience to wait 90 minutes for a main course to appear. Even a milk cow (which this to be for the (new?) management) needs to be fed.

Room Tip: Only eat there - with patience

G'day SydneyPierrot

Since you did not reply my request for clarification and more details about your stay, I can only say we did not have a guest from Sydney or from Australia since march 2013. So either you are not from Sydney as you show in your profile, or you have not been with us, at least not in june 2013...

As you blame us to be stupid, slow, lousy and greedy, I expect you are none of it. But then, why did it not come to your smart mind to check our website first and at least to skim over our statement in which we clearly declare - inter alia - to have the restaurant staff taking care of the few rooms at the reception, amongst other things we do a bit differently or not at all.

It says for example: "... do not expect luxurious materials and shiny glitter, no porters or a reception where someone smiles at you 24 hours a day. but in compensation there is a stereo in every room, a coffee machine that besides a good espresso also boils a nice cappucc', there's a free non-alcoholic minibar, complimentary afternoon cofffee, tea and sweet bits and you could spice up your stay with some whimsy add-on's." ... Here is the link to the full text: http://hotel-dellago.ch/E/IndexE.html

And hey, you are even wrong: the management is the same since 2001 (expect for the chef who died in a traffic accident in August 2008...). Instead, the current chef and his crew are here since 2010 only.

Cheers,
Rene, the lousy, greedy manager and its slow, exhausted and stupid crew...

very nice boutique hotel, great very individual rooms - check out the hotel homepage incl. pics and layouts of the rooms. rooms at the back (without lake view) can be noisy (street behind the hotel), but rooms with lake view are fantastic and quiet. great view. a hotel with lots of charm. very friendly staff. excellent food - Euro-Asian style - excellent wines. check-out the open-air lounges, also open for the public.

Room Tip: lakeview with balcony - better with terrace - if you like the sun during the day, choose a room with...

The Dellago was built as a small family hotel around 1907 and has since seen many concepts & transformations, but it has never been completely restructurated: this place has style and patina.as a holiday hotel, there is not enough space, as a design hotel we are much too improvised and for families we are far from being suitable, but for a relaxing city escape in jeans and chucks it's absolutely gorgeous. 21 simple or stylish, basic and luxurious, tiny and huge but always surprising rooms, an excellent fish and seafood restaurant, cool sound, wacky people and a lake lounge where your feet sometimes literally get wet are all perfect reasons to forget about the daily hassle for a couple of precious moments. ... more   less
