The San Millan Yuso Monastery is full of history and is one of the most interesting monasteries of Spain. It is the most important monastery in La Rioja. It is huge and is calle the El Escorial of La Rioja. It was started in 1053, and remodelled several times after that. The Gothic cloister and the 16th century church add to its importance. The sacristy has an alabaster floor and is considered one of the most beautiful in Spain.
The museum is very important. It has one of the best collection of hymnal books in Spain from the Middle Ages. The small casket that contains the remains of San Millan is a work of art, with carved ivory panels with Romanesque designs, from the 11th century. The Codex 46 shows that the Spanish language was born in this monastery.
This monastery is a World Heritage Site and deserves the title. This is one of the most interesting monasteries I have seen in Spain.
