We were looking for this place as we had read that the famous Dutch cook Sergio from three Michelin stars restaurant “Oud Sluis “ regularly visits this place. The Chef here is a good friend and they exchange ideas. The place is a bit aside the road. It is quite big with an outside part, that can be closed when the weather is bad, and a nice inside part with a big room with fireplace and a smaller room with two lovely corners where about six to eight people can sit together.
The place is nicely decorated in a hippie way. Colorful. The doors are light blue painted and several interesting objects make the place lively and interesting. We got a place in the inside outside place. Heaters were burning as the temperature outside was about 12 degrees C. The three of us ordered a “ vitello tonnato”. It turned out that most of the staff spoke Italian and that the main cooking style is Italian oriented too.
The “vitello tonnato” was served in a very nice way, with capers and eatable flowers on the plate. The sauce was very soft and tasteful and the meat excellent. A nine out of ten for this starter! As main course I had “ paccheri” with a sauce of fresh anchovies and tomatoes and chervil. Delightful. The others took as maincourse another starter: eggplant filled with yoghurt , tomatoes and homemade cheese. Quite good too.
We ended with a crème brulée with mango mixed in the crème and a hazelnut ice-cream. Both excellent. The service was friendly and efficient. And we got a grappa and limoncello from the house to end the evening. Absolutely a place to return. Perhaps one of the better restaurants on the island.
