“Relax.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2014

The property was about a 30-45 minute drive from downtown Sevilla in a rural locale. Wheat and sunflower fields surround this beautiful former olive farm, converted into a beautiful lodging facility. Two pools on the property, one more utilized than the other, allowing for a more private setting, if desired, at the one. The dinner was outstanding, worth every penny. The room was very spacious, including a loft with a sofa. WIFI was spotty--only reliable in a separate sitting room. You are in the countryside, so bring some snacks for the room and a bottle of wine for the room or by the pool, so you aren't limited to what they have on hand or held to paying for every drink you have. There is a gas station just past the driveway if you need some odds and ends. This was a wonderful and relaxing stop in our tour of Spain, a welcome break from the cities we had toured in a quiet, luxurious setting. Fantastic.

Room Tip: To the best of my knowledge, the rooms are all nearly identical.

Really excellent food, peaceful and pretty, away from the maddening crowd. Loved the pool and the night time dinner setup. Staff were helpful and friendly, a really a nice place. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here.

We recently spent three nights at the Hacienda, it is very beautiful and comfortable, and Gerry the manageress was friendly, efficient, courteous and helpful. The only niggles we had were that having arrived on a Monday, other than Gerry, no other member of staff spoke English (including waitresses) and the food wasn't as good as the other two nights which were excellent. The service improved greatly on the Tuesday and Wednesday and we were then very well looked after. The other niggle is that there is no choice of menu, which I personally found disappointing as there is no where else in the vicinity to have a good meal. My fault, perhaps, for not researching that aspect better! It is also extremely expensive!

Fell in love with the hotel while waiting the sumptuous living room to sign in. The hotel is luxurious and you'll feel pampered. But there are many hotels that pamper you for the money. What is different here is inclusiveness you can (if you wish) enjoy with the other guests. Everyone dines together (but at separate tables) at 8 pm (hopefully I have the time correct). Before 8 people sip drinks in the living room or as we did one evening, sit outside around a fire. We found people talked to each other about their day's travel and sometimes joined other dinner tables. It never felt forced nor impolite if you decided to be alone - there is an ease about the place. A wonderful family-type ease. I found a fabulous book in the living room and asked if I could buy it - they gave it to me as a gift.

The electricity went off one evening and most of us in the dining room thought it was intentional - as a romantic gesture. After dinner we went back to our rooms to find lit candles throughout - once again lovely and romantic.

I cannot fault this wonderful hotel. I stayed there recently with my husband for several days (April 2014). The gardens, rooms and staff are all wonderful and we were especially delighted by the company of the gorgeous Bruno, a handsome and sweet natured chocolate Labrador who wanders the grounds (and who is particularly patient and great with kids).

A few things:
The managers, Gerry & Anna, go to every effort to ensure that your needs are not only met but surpassed. For example I am a vegetarian who does not eat fish and I hate being force fed pasta in places like France and Spain because they can't think of anything else to give you. Both Gerry and Anna passed on my dietary requirements to the house chef who whipped up protein laden salads and grilled vegetables that were delicious (and far more tasty than they sound!). Also, the can of local extra virgin olive oil in our room that we were gifted on arrival was a great and unique touch.

It's also worth mentioning that the staff were aware it was my husband's birthday during our stay and gifted him that morning with a beautiful present - a delightfully wrapped book of luxury hotels. A thoughtful touch and much appreciated.

It really helped that most of the couples and families staying at the Hacienda with us were friendly, smiley and chatty. All the children (we have none and groan inwardly when a family with unruly children show up) were beautifully behaved and charming - something that is out of the hotel's power, of course, but it makes an enormous difference.

If there is one minor criticism it would simply be that the "basics" can be slightly inconsistent. Two examples: on the first morning, muesli came with the continental breakfast included in our room rate. On the second day, it was not. On the third day we needed to ask for it. Similarly on the first night in the dining room we had to ask for wine (supposedly included), and had a glass each which were not refilled. On the second night a waiter left an entire bottle on our table which we were unable to finish. Of course, these details are relatively minor and in no way obstructed the enjoyment of this gorgeous place.

One final thing: not all the staff speak English, but this is a minor problem as if a guest cannot be understood, a bilingual manager will be fetched quickly. Personally I see this as a plus as I would prefer a hotel to employ local staff, bilingual or not, than employ staff from afar.

Thank you to all at the Hacienda for a truly relaxing and unforgettable visit.

We just returned from our trip to Spain and we spent 3 nights at the Hacienda. It was truly the BEST hotel experience we've ever had. The ultimate hybrid of bed & breakfast charm and intimacy and service comparable to a high-end luxury hotel. Gerry and Galit took great care to address our every wish and were both absolute pleasures to talk to. They went to great lengths to arrange a day trip to an amazing jamon farm for us that was a truly unique experience. The food was phenomenal and the setting romantic. We felt it was an incredible value given the level of service and thoughtfulness. Visitors from California could compare this to places like the San Ysidro Ranch in the Santa Barbara area which is another favorite of ours. Go immediately to the Hacienda de San Rafael. You won't regret it.

WOW! I would never have normally planned to stay outside in the country on our trip to Spain but a friend had suggested the Hacienda as a respite from big city touring. This place is paradise! After going full blast in Cordoba, Granada, and Ronda we found this oasis a wonderful place to decompress and just relax. The staff is outstanding, the grounds gorgeous, and our own private casita and terrace exquisite. We basically had a private outdoor pool as well. We had a fixed price dinner in their magnificent restaurant for a very reasonable 55euros/pp with wine that was constantly replenished. The dinner was the best meal of our entire Spain trip. Jerry the concierge, hostess, ...I am not sure of her title tended to our every need. The Hacienda is a perfect way station if you want to tour the white hill towns or maybe do sherry tasting. My only regret is that we were only there for one night. The Hacienda is beyond par!!

Room Tip: The Casita was amazing!
